For all of you shufflers, here's to another .5 million downloads! That means its 4.5 million downloads altogether! For this event, we have the amazing Manaphy up for grabs! It's a special stage, which also means it's there for a limited time, until July 6th UTC time. Manaphy's skill is swap+ which makes it replace three random Pokémon with its own icon. That makes it easier to match Manaphy's. But that's not the only event going on right now!
There are tons of events in Pokémon shuffle already, like the competitive stage that was revealed a while back, with Giritina and all, but now there's a new Pokémon centered on that stage, and that Pokémon is Manetric. But it's not just an ordinary Manetric, it's a mega Manetric! This event will start on June 29th and end on July 6th. But, Manaphy and Manetric aren't the only rare-Pokémon up for grabs, Dialga's available too! From now till June 29th, you can get your own Dialga in its very own stage! It's easier to catch these Pokémon now, so don't feel bad that you can't catch them. The newest addition to the game which is called a 'super catch power', makes it easier to catch rare and uncommon Pokémon.
Although Pokémon does have all of these amazing events, and it is a free game, there are still micro-transactions, which make people not want to play the game. I mean, you only have 5 hearts, and you have to wait 30 minutes, which are ages in a person's eyes for a heart to recharge. You're not going to get the best of currency from street pass, although you do get something, people do get addicted, although there's not many Pokémon puzzle alternatives that are free. (Unless you count Pokémon Trozei, which is 7.99.)

Do you think that there are too many events in Pokémon shuffle to celebrate every little achievement Pokémon makes with this game?

I wouldn't say that there's too many events as much as they're pushing the "pay-to-play" aspect as much as possible. Like you said, for most players who don't pour money into getting the extra hearts or jewels are disadvantaged because they can't challenge all the events as much as they may want. I know that I haven't touched the main or extra parts of Shuffle in a couple weeks.

The main reason I even play this game is because of the weekly updates, so I guess I'm what you could call a "sucker."

I don't really think they're doing too many, especially since they're the only thing you have to do if you've completed most stuff (I've S ranked almost all of the non-expert stages.) It would actually be pretty great if they started doing this weekly event kind of thing with the mainline Pokémon games, I feel it would certainly give players (especially the non-competitive ones) a reason to pick up the game more often.

And yes, while players who buy stuff do have an advantage, it really doesn't matter that much. It's not actually that hard to do most of these events (provided you've gotten to a certain point in the main game) even with your limited tries, especially since they tend to go on for a week or two. With the mega events it's a bit more iffy, since you can pretty much pay to do significantly better. However, I just choose to store away most of my coins for those in advance, so even if I suck at the level I can make it a bit easier.

So yeah, the only problem I have with these events is that they let you try them from close to the beginning of the game, which is annoying since most of them are way too tough for that point of the game. You can end up shedding a lot of hearts, coins, and tears in the process of trying to beat these before it's even really possible. So yeah, it would be wonderful if they could make that something you unlock a little later.
