Registration for the online tournament, the Pikachu Cup, has begun! Beginning the August 13th until the 20th at 23:59 UTC, you can register to join the Pikachu Cup. But make sure to register ASAP, for there's a limited amount of participants!

Now you might be asking- what is the Pikachu Cup, what's in it for you, and how do you sign up? Well, allow me to tell you!

The Pikachu Cup is an online Global Link tournament where you build teams of entirely Electric-types for Double Battles in the games Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. However, you are able to use Pokémon you transfer via Poke Transporter from Generation V games. You are able to use any Electric-type Pokémon in the National Pokédex, except Legendary Electric-type Pokémon (including Arceus). The tournament will start on August 21st at 00:00 UTC until August 23rd, 2359 UTC.

As for what's in it for you, for participating (that is, participating in at least 3 battles and earn a ranking), you will receive a prize! The catch is that the prize will depend on the amount of Pikachus seen in the tournament.

    - If Pikachu is one of the top 3 most common Pokémon in the Pikachu Cup, every participant will be given a "special Pikachu"- so far undescribed.
    - If Pikachu is one of the top 4th through 12th most common Pokémon, participants will get a Light Ball.
    - If Pikachu is not one of the top 13 of the most-used Pokémon in the tournament, the participants will receive 1000 Poke Miles.

Now, how can you sign up? You'll need a Pokémon Trainer Club account; if you don't have one, you can sign up here. Once you've joined the PTC and connected to the Global Link, you'll be placed in two divisions based on the age given for your PTC:

    - Junior Division for those registered to have been born in 2000 or later; there is also a limit of playing time from 6 AM to 11 PM of your country's easternmost timezone.
    - Master Division for those registered to have been born before 2000.

This article's source comes from here and here. If you're confused about anything I encourage you to check those links out to find out more; if you're not confused, you may benefit from visiting those links anyway. It's nearly 3 AM right now, I may very well have done goofed something.

    Let me just say something

    • Electivire and Stunfisk are the ONLY electric types with Earthquake
    • Pacharisu is the only Pokémon with Redirection
    • Emolga is the only Pokémon without an item r move with a Ground immunity
    • Nuzzle is the only move to inflict paralysis
    • Manectric and Ampharos are the only Pokémon wuth mega evolutions
    • Manectric, minun, plusle, Dedenne, Pacharisu and the Pikachu line are the only Pokémon to be able to inflict paralysis thanks to Nuzzle.
    • The Chinchou line are the only Pokémon with access to soak which can be helpful in a meta filled with electric types
    • Chinchou, Jolteon, Minun and Pacharisu are the only Pokémon to get Volt Absorb

    Competitive nerdery complete XD

I might actually join in on this! I mean, it's doubtful I'll win, but if I hit that grindstone and build a decent electric team, this could turn out to be a shocking turn of events! Gives me a good excuse to show off mymy Light Ball Volt Tackle Pikachu anyway XD

I might join this I might not, I probably won't even get close to winning but it'd be nice to enter this competition, it'll be my first tournament, I feel like pretending to be a junior, just to make it easier :P

I'm not sure if this was meant to be a pun but XD

I'm not sure I'll be in this although I probably should since my favorite type is electric and is pretty much like a dream coming true having a tournament just for electric types.

I'm joining this one! Monotype and doubles isn't my strength, but it'll be really fun. Besides, this is a great opportunity to practice against good opponents in game. And to hopefully get a special pikachu haha.

Electric-types are completely immune to paralysis. Nuzzle will deal damage, but it won't paralyze them.

I wonder if there's much point to running Electric-type moves other than if you're running a Soak Lanturn since there's so much access to Lightning Rod and Volt Absorb. And even then they're immune to those moves!

    This sounds interesting!
Is there a way to watch this? You see, there's no way I'll join up in this.
First of all, I was born in 1999, which is totally unfair. I mean, I'm no professional, and if I want to join up for a tournament, I might be up against Pokéjunks who spend at least 6 hours per day building the ultimate team. Help ^_^`
However, Electric is my favourite type, so I would really like to watch this.

EDIT: this is what the PGL said about the special Pikachu:

    Held Item: Light Ball
    Ability: Lightning Rod
Moves: Endeavor, Fake Out, Encore, Volt Tackle.
