When I saw the images, I thought these might be new species - but from the looks of the trailer, probably not. Besides, there could be backlash if they re-skinned old Pokémon to make "new" species.

Do you think these forms will be changeable? Or will it be like Gastrodon, in that they can only be caught in certain areas?

If these are exclusive to Alola, what about in future games? Perhaps an in game trade?

Do you think there could be more like these? How about a fire-type Pikachu? :o

I'm guessing Gastrodon. They have similar lore entries, just spanning regions.

One day, they are going to introduce a Form Change concept that is going to completely screw over the metagame. And by that, I mean make it incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to actually simulate and/or control the environment to supplement the playstyles of the opponents without concession. Like if they introduced a Pokémon that could only Form change at night: that would be fun to pit against a Sky Shaymin.

They're the same species as the original Pokémon, just a different form, basically. Which means different appearance, new types/abilities/movepools, but same general species, similar to Gastrodon and Vivillon. It doesn't look like these forms will be changeable- any Pokémon caught in the Alola region that has an Alola form will always keep that Alola form, no matter what. It seems like the only way to get the original form of an Alola form Pokémon is to trade it from previous games. As of right now, I have no idea how breeding will work with Alola forms, so I'll just wait for more information before speculating.

I'm really interested in this idea, though- it's basically the Delta Species Pokémon from the TCG, except revamped and a whole lot cooler! I hope some overlooked Pokémon get some Alola forms, as well as some powerful and interesting Pokémon just for the heck of it. I heard Cubone and Marowak might get Alola forms and become Fire-type, which would be neat! Their clubs could become juggling torches or something similar, and their skulls could look more like tiki masks.

Personally, as far as Alola forms go, I'm hoping for Dunsparce, Volcarona, Milotic, Gyarados, Arcanine, Kingdra, Luxray, Flygon, Roserade, Sigilyph, Solrock, and Lunatone. Those are just a few that I'm hoping get some sort of Alola form, especially Dunsparce. A Dragon/Fairy Dunsparce would be amazing and I would love it forever.

This is my idea as well. I don't see how the Alolan forms could change into "normal" forms, mostly because I can really imagine the Exeggutor with its long neck decorating the Alolan landscape. I'd still like to see more Burmy/Wormadam Pokémon in the future, but I highly doubt these new forms are.

I think that these forms are just the way the Pokémon are in alola and if you want the old versions then you will have to trade. My friends and I did discuss how it would be cool though if you could breed the old form like breeding an alolan ninetales with a fire type to get a "normal" vulpix.

I would love to see more of these, they are such a cool idea and as a biology major its really awesome to see natural selection in play in Pokémon

Im same for the Dunsparce, and The Marowak thing comes from the SM website 'cause the Fire-type specialist has one, just to let you guys know :)

However I think they will only change the first 151 (At least in SM anyways) because GF/Nintendo think that"s all people will remember their old forms, which would be sad...

But who knows, Alolan Dunsparce would be very nice.

Definitely. There's absolutely no reason to just stick with the first generation.

About the only Gen I Pokémon from my favourites are Arcanine in the lower half of the top ten, and Dragonite and Mew quite a ways away. I suspect the latter two would be left out even if they only focused on Kanto Pokémon.

Hey guys, [member='Aura'] here, to discuss the newly announced Alolan Pokémon!

Now, by Alolan Pokémon, I don't mean Gen VII Pokémon. No, if you're a bit behind on the news (which I highly doubt if you're reading this) then you'd obviously be confused. Alolan Pokémon are actually a set of Pokémon that already existed that have new forms, changing their appearance, type and (presumably) stats. So far we've got 5 Alolan Pokémon - Alolan Exeggutor, Vulpix, Ninetales, Sandshrew and Sandslash. Essentially, these Pokémon are type-swaps of Pokémon we've already had, which is known by the fan term Delta Species, originating from the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

So, what do you think of these Alolan Pokémon? Are they interesting or tacky? What Pokémon do you think might get one? What's your ideal Alolan Pokémon? Post your thoughts in the comments below!

As always, this is [member='Aura'], signing out until next time!

I love the idea of these new forms. Its great to see some Pokémon get a new existence that isn't Mega Evolution (though its a great feature as well). I especially like how they thought about the biology behind these adaptations that the Pokémon went through, all having to do with environment which exactly how species are created in our world.

I really think that I will get them all, but vulpix and sandshrew stand above exeggutor so probably one of those two, unless others are created like Arcanine. If my favorite gen 1 fire type gets a new look i will look to the end of the region to find it. I'm not sure what Pokémon I would want most to get the new form otherwise though, its hard to think about them in new typings until they are made.

But yeah, I love the idea and am even more pumped for this new adventure!

It's certainly an interesting, if a little weird idea. It helps support the idea that Pokémon have adapted to different environments.

I'm neutral to it until I learn more, while my brother hates it. Ninetales is his favourite Pokémon.

I wonder if we'll see an Alolan Weezing with a giant head that's 11 meters tall and part Dragon type...

I think it's safe to say we won't be getting any more giant-necked Dragon types.

    Hopefully...

Is it just me or is all are the Pokémon we'd never expect become dragon-type, are actually becoming that said type

But what about a Brachiosaurus Pokémon that could be a Dragon-type

    Sceptile - Dragon
    Exeggutor - Dragon

Exeggutor sorta does look like a dragon with that long deck of his now.

I'm really looking forward to the Alola Pokémon they look pretty neat.

Wonder if all or most Pokémon will get an Alola form. I couldn't see Nintendo just doing some. I wonder if it's going to be like the new Shiny of the game.

I really love the idea of these Alola formes! I hope they continue to give them to rarely used Pokémon like sandslash and exeggutor so that those Pokémon can have some new life and usage.

Also the formes just look great so far. Ninetails being part fairy is awesome and it looks so mystic and smokey, and exeggutor. Just... exeggutor. Beyawtiful.

I wonder how these special forms are going to work. Do they activate with the ring perhaps?

They act like the normal versions of the Pokémon, that's just how they ARE in Alola (Like Darwins Finches)

I love the look of these new forms a lot, but I hope they have different stats from their original counterparts...if they don't then some forms just make using that one Pokémon a little bit harder.

Honestly I love the concept is like the delta species in the card game I just hope they won't go overboard with the Alola forms so half the dex is just Alola forms of old Pokémon. I do wonder if they have different stats that'll suit their new forms.
