    As my own laptop just kicked the bucket thanks to shotty hard drive, we are deciding, fix it or replace it? I say replace since it was shotty all together but my mom says fix since it is expensive and only 2 years old, almost 3. Are you the kind of person to fix the problems with hardware or leave it to die and get a new computer to one up your old one?

    Honestly, I've had issues with my laptop too and it was not the only issue that popped up and is really just better to replace it especially if it was a crummy one to start with. I still have the laptop but I paid a fortune to get it fixed and yeah in reality is not cheaper to do that in the long run. Now I have a PC that can handle the thing I do better. I fix and replace as I see fit there's no single way it depends on what it is that break and how is broken.

    I am the kind of person to attempt to fix it and hold onto old things. A lot of it came out of times of necessity where I simply couldn't afford to replace old with new. It's kind of a habit now, I use old computers some of which have slight upgrades as well as some software choices that cater to their abilities and performance and help them do what I want them there to do, and I get along fine for most things.

    If your laptop is merely 2 or 3 years old, there's no real good reason for you to replace rather than upgrade unless you can easily afford it. A new hard drive (if it's not a SSD) is not going to be very expensive even for good storage space, I remember buying a 1TB HDD for one of my computers about three years ago and it ran me around 100 bucks; three years later it's probably even cheaper and could probably find like 3TB for the same price. If that's the only thing it needs to function acceptably, definitely go that route if money is at all an issue. (On that note, do not go to a place like Best Buy or a big name store to buy one, they will likely have higher prices and try to talk you out of a replacement HDD and into a replacement laptop...bought from them of course. Instead go to smaller independent local computer shops that sell parts and do builds for people.)

    If you thought it was shotty anyway, well I dunno what type of laptop it is or the details but if it's only two or three years old and you find it shotty,maybe it just needs a little more RAM. A new HDD and a little RAM upgrade will cost you way less than a full replacement and should give you a happily working modern machine.

    Note that I think you should seek parts only if its the HDD that has failed, since that is a minor and common thing that needs fixing, they die all the time on people. If it turns out that it's something more serious, like say something shorted on a faulty motherboard and there are additional hardware problems or something then I'd say yeah, replace, because replacing multiple sensitive parts like that is a hassle, may require paid labor depending on what it is (like if it needed replacing of small components and soldering on the some of the boards and you like me are not confident with a soldering gun) and in the end be nearly as expensive as a brand new machine just with more headache.

    Did you build the PC your self or is it just a laptop? Mine was just a little HP Pavillion x360 so it was a nice computer but the cheaper of the HP touch screen line. My mom wantes to fix it her self and do it at home but I know she will just break it more.

    Is a custom gaming PC, it costed me about 12,000 DKK, aka the same as my laptop actually costed me. The PC should be good for at least 5 years.

    Replace it, usually fixing costs more then just getting a new one ;A;
    At least in my experience.

    For me, I usually go with replacing the parts. My PC has always been a frankenstein's monster of computers, in that the only thing left from the original computer is the casing. Everything else has been updated or fixed over time as stuff started to wear down. My dad's pretty good with computers, he basically built a majority of the computers my family has now, so replacing the parts isn't too hard in my case. You can also get parts pretty cheap off of places like TigerDirect if you have the time to wait for sales.

    If the computer is old and it needs repairs like hinges and screen issues I'd get a new computer. If it's minor things like a virus I'd go repair it.

    fixing can only do so much. If all but 1 or 2 parts are broken and it's nothing major I say fix, but if it's something major or the pc is now completely outpaced by current stuff then I say replace it.

    It all depends on the damage and how cost effective it is, plus how old it is (laptop/tablets). Like my Nexus 7 broke a year or two back, but in order to fix it either by myself or via ASUS, it would cost more than it did to buy it. An older laptop I got around the dawning of Vista lasted all the way until the dawning of Windows 8. Decided it wasn't worth fixing and just upgraded laptops. Now if I ever get around to building a PC like I want to, then I will undoubtedly do my best to keep it fixed up.
