What is your personal opinion on Game Freak adding new types? Will it be done or not? I personally think they won't, and I kind of hope they don't too. I honestly don't think we need any more. How will a light or sound type even add to the game whatsoever? We're fine with the types we have now. But what do you think, is it a good idea, or a bad one?

I don't think it's a good idea, at this point in the series. I think the only reason they could get away with adding a new type, is to give Poison type another advantage. It's currently only strong against Grass, and weak to Psychic and Ground. I think it could really be balanced out a little bit better, but otherwise adding a new type would just mess everything else up.

It's a shit idea and I damn well hope they don't do it. It's completely unnecessary. The new types in Gen 2 made sense; psychic was over-powered and had no viable counter, and fighting was next to useless. Such a stark imbalance doesn't exist any more. If they are put in just to appease the people who go on about how great the stupid 'light' type will be I'll really lose faith in Gamefreak.

I agree with everyone here, which begs the question: do enough other fans agree? Is this such a common view that Gamefreak won't try anything like it? Are there a lot of fans that have had an influence?

But everyone is fearful that there will be new types. If Gamefreak did overhaul a load of Pokémon types to include the new ones, I can see how they'd start, and if I were in their position and I wanted to do that, it would seem like a fitting thing to do. There are many Pokémon linked to the concepts of light and sound (which seem to be the common verdict for new types this time around) including the new two legendaries. Xerneas you don't need any help to see the reference to light in, but Yveltal you might to see the sound reference. If you watch the teaser trailer for the XY games, and watch Yveltal's part, there's a split second when it's raising its wings in which it resembles a tuning fork. This is compelling evidence, even though I sincerely wish it not to happen.

I hope they don't add new types. I think the balance e have right now works well. I thought that Steel and Dark were good additions, but I really can't see a point in adding more.

But it would be cool if we have a few more gamefreak is running out of ideas of new games so at least they should stall it for a little :/ well thats my opinion...

I think it would be a great idea to add more types to the game as it would add some variety but since the Pokémon typing is completely balanced now you would have to add more than 2 or 3 and expect them to fit in the way they should. Gen 2 added dark and steel if my memory serves my correctly but that added the balance that red and blue lacked with typing. Adding types like light and sound will probably do nothing to the chain of weaknesses except give dark another weakness. I am sure if Gamefreak decides to make new types though they know what they are getting into.

I am opposing the idea of new elements. I actually think it would be a bit silly to see a Sound or Light based Pokémon. (As I am hearing this from a guy at work who insists that the new Eevee is a Light element Pokémon and that there is another Eevee that is going to be Sound). I think they have a pretty good balance to the elemental line up anyways. It takes a lot of effort trying to make sure that one element isn't completely OP or completely useless. Unless they have really good plans on what to do with "the new elements..." I'm still not keen on it happening >>; Though if it does happen....It does happen.

I really dont want any new types. In my opinion there are all types that are necessary.
And I think I know why there are people who think new types are coming up:
Its the easiest thing to explain why all the new Pokémon didnt have a type yet. and its because of sylveon because many seems to can not imagine what this type could be from the old ones
The game is still in development maybe this is the reason why they arent have types so far?
    No one thought about that

I've read some pretty convincing rumors about Fairy Type, actually.
The guy who posted all of Unova's Pokédex before it was officially announced (He works at a Pokémon Magazine in Spain I think) said that Fairy type was a reality, and that Xerneas and the Clefairy line will be part Fairy.

I was definitively against it, but I've come to terms with it. After all, even if they do add it, I'm going to play the game anyway, and learn to live with it. Maybe eventually like it.
When I was younger I was against new Pokémon, and now I like 'em all. I guess gamefreak knows what it's doing. I don't see the point in it either, but, who knows. Maybe it has something new, like a new status condition or something like that, that'd be cool. Also weakness to poison and resisted by grass, please.

Ew. Please no new types. It will make the game shitty. I mean, I would be fine if they make new type combinations with the ones that already exist, but no new types -_-

[sub]Game Freak got some pretty good types and if they added new types what would it be? They should add types to Pokémon TCG because their is no Flying,Ice,Rock,Ground, and Ghost.[/sub]

Yes, I agree with Pyramid King in the TCG, but I don't think new types are bad; are simply different xD
I like the new fairy type, because for example is immune to dragon, probably the best type 'til now. That's what I like, new combinations to think in battles.

I think Sylveon is the new light/fairy type. From all of the evidence that I speculated, there is a chance. The image of all of the "Eeveelutions" shows something that I didn't notice. One of GameXPlain's X&Y videos on YouTube describes how one Eeveelution is super effective on the Eeveelution across from it. So, others are saying that Sylveon is a flying type because Jolteon's electric type. What's weird is that Gyrados is a flying type...but can't techically fly. And Eelektross can levitate and can clearly stand on the ground (You can actually hear and see the "thud" that he does when he pops out of a Poké Ball!). Altaria? It's not a dragon; it's a bird! It's like old-school cartoons; the logic makes NO SENSE! >:( So, in conclusion, if there are no new types, Sylveon will be flying; if there is a new type, it might be light or fairy.

The new types might not be to balance gameplay or whatever, they might just be there to have more accurate types for the Pokémon. Say you have all these sound-related Pokémon, like the Whismur line and Meloetta. They could make a sound type just so they have a contextual typing.

Same goes for many Pokémon. I saw these fake Rotom forms (very well done ones, in fact) and noticed that they all had the 4th generation ghost-electric typing. Now that the new forms have unique types depending on the device Rotom is controlling, I was thinking about what types the fake forms would be. There was a TV, lamp, CD player, toaster, and a vacuum cleaner. If these were to be made, what would their secondary types be? (ghost is removed, so it's electric-*******)

Pretty easy to imagine that the lamp would be light type and the CD player sound. That would make the most sense. The toaster would be fire, and the vacuum cleaner would be flying, leaving the TV to be pretty ambiguous. In this case I was thinking bug because of the move signal beam, which fits in pretty well for a TV. Plus a TV would theoretically have the same weaknesses and strengths as what we know as a bug type, anyway. Rocks would shatter it, fire would really mess it up, flying... I don't know, it would be cancelled out by the electric type. The light from the screen would eliminate darkness and the mind-dulling effects would degenerate psychic types. And maybe I could make up some stupid analogy as to why TVs hurt grass types, but it's just a passing thought.

That sums up what I think of new types. They're just to have better context.

And then they do have a new type now. :) Times change really fast! Xerneas being part Fairy would be pretty cool. Though, not to sound mean, but...who would want Sound types? Really? Light, I can somewhat accept but Sound...? It sounds so weak.

Unless there's an Erlking- or Herne-based Fairy/Ghost(or Dark) type, I'm not really diggin' the idea. I really feel the same way, about Sound and Light types. Dark is really considered more "evil", so a literal Light type to balance that wouldn't make any sense, unless it was called "good".

Sound...eh...doesn't really warrant a typing, IMO. I've heard a lot of people mention it and wanting the mentioned Pokémon to be Sound type, but what could they really do, with it? What would it even be weak or strong, against?

I'm actually really glad they added Fairy. It finally makes Dragon a less overpowered type.

However, Sound Type I don't understand. I just don't get how that would work against any of the other types. Before they confirmed Fairy I was thinking of Light Type, and it was pretty easy to figure how that would work against the other types, but Sound? I don't even... I know that there are many Normal Type attacks that could be moved to Sound Type, like Uproar, Growl, Screech etc, but I don't really get it.

The new fairy type sounds terrible IMO. I imagine that it will be week to Ice, Bug, and Dark. I reallllly hope that Celebi won't be part fairy, and I really really hope that Fennekin won't be Fire/Fairy.

I don't know why, but I just do for some reason... I like all the other types, but not this one.

I don't see why Fairy would be weak to Ice or Bug at all. Fairies are nature spirits, so I think that it would make sense for them to have neutral power against anything having to do with nature. I think they're resistances, and weaknesses should all lie in Psychic, Dark, Ghost, and Fighting.
