A few sources have claimed that there is another Pokémon game in development for the Nintendo Switch, codenamed Pokémon Stars. A main series game coming to a console that is (supposedly half-) home-based is something we Pokémon fans have yet to experience, though it's arguable that the Switch is an exception due to its rumored portability. There are other reports out there claiming that more Pokémon are to be introduced, with numbers often above 20 but below 40. Some reports say there will be no additional Pokémon to the game, and that Stars is mostly a project of "updated graphics and assets." If the case is that Pokémon Stars does come to market as an updated Sun and Moon, would you guys buy it? Is there a need for a third installment to the 7th generation that doesn't add much to the series, even with previous generations having a similar trend?
I'd buy it if I didn't have to buy a brand new console for it, but it's kind of interesting and I've heard of it before. If it's just really a home version with better graphics and the lag issues fixed I'm cool with it, just as long as 3DS players aren't abandoned too soon.
Well, I'll be honest, I follow ninty faithfully almost no matter what they do (the awful AC boardgame spinoff is the exception, to far ninty!!) haha so I know I'll be keen to give the switch a go, and therefore eager for anything to actually use it for, so for sure I'd be giving that a go to. I'm not entirely sure if I believe the rumours, but it would be about time for a shake up as it were to the formula, so I won't rule it out. I just hope that however the switch is built, it won't be too difficult to use it in a portable manner if that's what we prefer, seeing as that's how I usually play Pokémon, that's what I'll be looking for ideally.
I really wish I could support it but I dont like the new system and the fact it can't play previous DS games or WiiU games. I would love a third game but to move Pokémon like that has me worried and it is going to be expensive to re-purchase every game if they choose to push them all into new copies on the switch. Though I don't know where we can go in stars since this story was wrapped up so nicely. Though a character did make a cameo that has me thinking of where they may go.
Of course I'd buy it but I'm still not certain about this being a real thing. Official confirmation is always nice but they won't do it yet otherwise they'd overshadow Sun & Moon so early into release.
Just my opinion, but Pokémon Stars sounds strange for a game title. I think Pokémon Star would fit a bit better since the previous games were always singular (Pokémon Suns and Moons sounds weird lol).
Yeah, thankfully it's a codename for now! I'm feeling mixed about the prospect of a third game for gen7, partially because I'd honestly rather have sequels like in BW, but also because I'm worried about the speculation surrounding the Switch, like @[member="Achromatic"]. Usually, @[member="ClefairyKid"] and I aren't far off in terms of following Nintendo's console string, yet this is the console that may break that for me. The Switch looks cool, sure. There are still big questions about specs, display, features, and functionality that are unanswered, and I'm not convinced Nintendo will stick to the timeline of a March release. But back on topic, I'm not convinced that Sun & Moon need a third game at the moment, but I'd love to see a way to access another region through Alola, namely Sinnoh. If that were the case, I'd probably want to get both and play for the rest of my days.
Honestly, I get this feeling that if they do introduce the ability to go to another region, it will be Kanto, partly because that's where the main character moves from at the start and also because it's the anniversary of the series and they don't really seem to have a chance to fully remake RBY, and the remakes firered and leafgreen are already looking dated so it would look pretty awesome if they did.
