Have you played one of the Gen 1 virtual console releases? Taxes in it's $13.11 here, is that a good value in your opinion? I've been thinking of getting a copy of Blue, I'm interested in how Pokémon from these games will interact with the bank and Sun and Moon, but I'm not sold on it enough to buy an eshop funds card yet. What do you think, answer poll as well if you please

It's worth it if you're feeling nostalgic. Also fun if you want to try all those Gen 1 glitches yourself.

I was able to try the virtual console Red and Blue since it was included when I bought my New 3DS, and I found them enjoyable. Most new players might find it difficult playing through Gen 1 games since it's very different from the current gen games, however if you've played any Gen 1/2 games in the past you might be able to enjoy it.

Yeah I have played a lot of Gen 2 and some gen 1 back in the day, I thought I would enjoy playing it again, would be a nostalgia trip. It's cool that they kept the legendary glitches in there, didn't know and kind of assumed they would remove them.

I would say is worth it for the memories if you've played them in the past not sure what newer players think about them other than they might find them hard. I like that the games are still full of the glitches like back when they were released I remember having hours of fun with messing with them.

Yup! I'm actually really glad they kept the games exactly as they used to be. I'm now wondering whether I can transfer my glitch Mew to Bank (I would love GameFreak if it gets through).

Probably only for memory value, if you hadn't played them before it'd be a bit annoying I think, since the new ones have so many more features. I got the matching 2ds one for yellow and I enjoy it reasonably well even whilst playing newer ones simultaneously. As far as value for money goes without considering how you like it on a personal level, it's definately great value, no doubt about it, seeing as it would have been a 100+ hour game even back in it's day.

The only thing I'd add is that I'm really not sure what the big deal is about the sun and moon compatibility, as far as I can tell, you can complete the nationaldex without them, so all you'd be effectively doing is emptying the hard earned Pokémon from red/blue for no real reason, since you can always get them again easly from trading and breeding in the new ones.

Oh I'm mostly just curious about how the features and stats for things that didn't exist during Gen 1 will get determined. I'm not worried about it for National Dex completion or anything, I've got that pretty much covered with 719/721 sitting there waiting for me in Omega Ruby.

I did end up buying Blue yesterday and I'm pretty happy I did, it's been a fun nostalgia trip so far.

That is a true point, I hadn't thought of it like that. And that's good to hear! I have to admit, I did set out to do a very thorough play through of yellow but the difficulty of the pc box being lists and not icons is the one thing driving me up the wall @ _ @ haha

Yeah the box system is really clunky and items aren't much better, still really fun despite flaws though.

Well, I just got Yellow on my 3DS, and I can happily say I enjoy it. I haven't really played Gen 1 or 2, or at least the original ones, though Heartgold doesn't count, I'm sure. But Yellow has been worth it.
