With a lot of hype for the console going around right now, we must remember to remain skeptical. Do you think the Switch can live up to the hype, or even come close? Or will it fall flat? Discuss!

I wan't to seem them do well, but I don't think Nintendo can compete with Microsoft or Sony anymore. I certainly do wish them well though!

I think it's going to fall flat unless they get some better launch titles. With Breath of the Wilds most likely getting a Wii U release as well (the rumors stating otherwise were false), I personally can't see a reason to purchase the console.

Beside only one or two titles I have any interest in (Xenoblade 2 + BotW), the biggest demotivating factor for me is paid online. For a $300 console, I shouldn't have to pay for online multiplayer, and this is a new move on their part. The Switchâ„¢ from free to paid is ridiculous and I don't want to support it.

On top of that, I've yet to see a game that would be WORTH paying for online in for the Switch. If I'm paying for online, I'll stick to the PS4, which has a broader game selection. I've heard rumors of a Monster Hunter game for the Switch, but unless the multiplayer is free specifically for MH, I think it's going to fall on its face.

The next biggest reason I don't want to get it is the tiny controllers. I have thick, meaty claws and they cannot hold such a small controller with delicacy and care. And there's no way I want to drop $70 on their pro controller.

This isn't as big of a factor, but the battery life is also offputting to me. I don't think it's as feasible as a handheld as they've advertised.

Again, so far, I haven't seen anything to justify a purchase for the Switch for me. I love Xenoblade, but to drop $360 for one game is silly (not including the pro controller cost).

I don't know really, it has good games coming but their launch titles are bare bones, 2 games iirc and 1, 2, switch isn't even interesting. It isn't interesting enough then it will be forgotten, it will flop right off the start. I was hoping for the console but at this point, it is nearing too far gone for a launch.

I think it will live up to the hype it's getting because the hype it's getting is already somewhat jaded and not unreasonable. People remember the Wii-U and the latest track record for Nintendo, the third party support turns some heads and there will always be an audience for Mario and Zelda, but the competition is still clearly viewed as "ahead". From the things I have seen I think the Switch over a short period of time will live up to expectation and even delight some people who were turned off of Nintendo during the Wii and Wii-U eras.

It has a really interesting concept and it looks really amazing too. However, I don't really have any reason to buy it at the moment. It's honestly much more expensive than I was expecting and there aren't even any games to look forward to at launch other than Breath of the Wild. I might buy it if I see a mainstream Pokémon game or Monster Hunter but that probably won't be happening any time soon. It's sad too because it looked so promising and it might just end up a fail.

I don't see any reason to buy it yet until they can lower the price. Or perhaps start bundling games with the system.

For general success, I can't see it doing phenomenal, but I see it doing okay. That paid online's gonna hurt sales as Nintendo has stated that the Wii U will keep its online support and there are still some good games on Wii U. If you wanted online, would you have it for absolutely free with some good games or pay for games we don't know much about?

I think the future of the Switch is a little iffy as of now. We'll just have to wait for more info...

I never buy a console at launch, but you know what would make me save up for it would be a comprehensive virtual console featuring games from NES to Gamecube, never going to have everything but at least a healthy selection for each console from those companies who maintain a good working relationship with Nintendo..one thing that springs to mind is Final Fantasy and other Square Enix games as SE is going to be a developer for the Switch. Something like that would be amazing and I'd start saving for one as soon as I knew something like that was a reality.

In the mean time I can wait until fall or Christmas 2017 for one. It's lookin damn cool though.

For my expectations, I think that it will meet the bare minimum while setting new expectations for the future. In my experience, most companies over hype their systems and they never turn out to be completely how the presented them in trailers/e3/expos/etc. The big thing is to keep some skepticism and try not to get your hopes up to high. Am I expecting this to be steps ahead of both the 3ds and the wii u? Yes. Am I planning on this being amazing by nintendo standards? Yes. Am I expecting this thing to be flawless and beat out playstation and xbox? NO! I expect it to even the playing field a bit in comparison to what's out there. All I'm looking forward to are new games and a new play style. I'm not looking for a groundbreaking piece of tech so with those expectation in mind I think I will have some fun with this.

My firm feeling with this and most of the nintendo consoles is that they are successful not so much because of their hardware design specifically (although that helps) but because of the amount of great games there are to play on them. I think the reason the wii U suffered so much is there's almost no major or unique but solid things to play on it, pikmin 3 is the only thing that comes to mind as a solid entry for it (I personally refuse to count things like mario party 134347t8 and mario kart 247793 as most mario things are just mario clones to me at this point) I also don't count things that come out as part of large movie based franchises, since those are made for the sake of profit not for the sake of being a great game.

Therefore, I am thinking the success of the switch will depend on the line up and honestly, judging by what I've seen so far it's not good, with only breath of the wild making a slight impression on me (I'm not a zelda player usually but I can appreciate that it looks like a solid entry worth trying out). But there's no confirmed Pokémon, harvest moon, rune factory, sims, paper mario, Pokémon snap sequel, mario paint sequel, and most of all still no hint of a proper animal crossing sequel. They could also have done things like a fantasy life sequel, , but instead all of that they are apparently moving towards mobile apps with premium currency.

Regardless of how those apps turn out (not great I expect), it will make a dent in the popularity of the console if there's not enough titles for people to justify spending on it in the first place. I can't exactly spend $500 to try out one game from a series I rarely play. The way nintendo is, I can't take rumours of Pokémon stars and stardew valley for certain, they are just as likely to not release that as they are to do it (not to mention I already play moddable stardew valley on the computer so there's not much need to get it again).

Of course, if they do at least one reasonable Pokémon entry (and not some terrible reskinning of mario party but with Pokémon characters as they did to AC), then I will probably give it a go, it's not that I don't want to support them, because I always have, but I find it's getting harder and harder to find games I want to actually play on console anymore.

You have a major point here. I originally put some money down for a Neon Joy-Con Switch, but I'm having some severe remorse. As @[member="Cadbberry"] also mentioned, there are virtually no titles at launch and that's utterly ridiculous.

You're the person that made me rethink the down payment I put on the Switch, and I thank you for that. You've brought up great points with the video you posted on another thread in addition to ones mentioned previously, and I think I'm going to cancel my pre-order. The console's lack of titles at launch or even near launch is honestly some of the most stupid stuff I've seen Nintendo try to lay on thick.

Don't forget the possibility of another series of delays like they had for BotW.

I keep seeing things that make me want to buy it but with no titles it is just going to sit and collect dust in my house. I am stuck in a loop of yes and no.

@[member="Cadbberry"] I'm a bit stuck as well. I really want to wait for there to be more games for me to play, but I want it just to have it too.

I probably won't even really play it until Super Mario Odyssey comes out :(

I thought the Wii U would do well and it fell flat so I'm a bit skeptical. I really want it to do well and have some amazing games but on the other hand I feel like we might have another Wii U where it just kind of dies.

Honestly, I'm not sure about it yet. I'm like this with a lot of new consoles, mostly because I'm super stingy with my money and won't buy anything unless I know it's worth it (I own a Wii U, and yet I don't use it as much anymore. I'm not making the same mistake twice). Breath of the Wild is the one game I'm actually most excited for, and I know it's coming out for the Wii U as well as the Switch (They did this with Twilight Princess on the GameCube and the Wii, so it makes sense they'd do it again).

However, I want to stay optimistic. If enough games for it come out or are ported to it, maybe it'll sell well and maybe I'll change my mind about buying one for myself. I'm hoping it does. Only time will tell at this point.

If the Switch can have a lot of third party support as well as some killer first party games then I think it will live up to the hype.

I really hope we see some huge third party games soon as there aren't a ton currently confirmed.

As for first party, we have Fire Emblem 16 coming out next year on the switch, Splatoon 2, Zelda BotW, Xenoblade 2, and Mario Odyssey so it's looking good there. Would love Anime Crossing Switch, though.

I can agree to that. The biggest problem the Switch faces that many people seem to be upset about is that there won't be more games at launch, and no backwards compatibility to speak of. That's no to mention the high cost of the console matched with the high cost for a new set of controllers.

With developers like Bethesda coming into the Switch pool, I really don't doubt a lot of great third-party support in the future. But as previously mentioned, a launch collection that is so abysmal is not doing the console any good. I'll likely wait until Super Mario Odyssey and another few mouth-watering games come out before buying the console.

Now that it's out: The game cartridges taste terrible, apparently, so the console is objectively trash.

My opinion hasn't changed on it, unfortunately. I'm still not at all convinced to get it; however, after playing with Ben earlier, a Fantasy Life sequel with multiplayer that stays at or above 30 FPS would convince me in a second.

I'm convinced to get it after the price drops a little and Super Mario Odyssey comes out. Otherwise, I'll pass.
