So today (at least in some places) is the release date of the Dragon Quest VIII 3DS remake. I'm excited.

I'm not a huge DQ fan overall, truth be told I find the really old games (like I-IV) very dull, clunky and hard to enjoy where this wasn't the case for other RPG titles from the same era, but I had some great experiences with this game back on PS2 and being able to relive them on the 3DS is going to be sweet. It's been roughly ten years since I played it so I imagine much will feel new again, and there will probably be new content anyway. It's very traditional JRPG and I find that comforting and fun in its own way. Plan to get it today if my nearest Wal-Mart gets a shipment in; I went over early this morning and they didn't have it, will call them later. Not goin' to EB games specifically because I plan to use a Wal-Mart gift card to pay for a portion of the game.

What are your thoughts on this DQVIII release and DQVIII in general? Will you be getting it?

I've played the game by other means (flashcart) and honestly, they should have just made a PS4 HD Remaster.

Dragon Quest 8 is a HUGE game in scope, and it belongs on a console rather than a Handheld.

Besides, I'm playing the game via Emulation atm

Hey I'd be cool with an HD remaster too on PS4 and something like the Switch, but I love the idea of this great game of this great scope being on the 3DS; a part of that of course is the fact that the 3DS is pretty much the only console I play and support with new titles these days. I still haven't gotten my copy but plan to within a week, it was out of stock release day and I ended up needing the money for other purposes anyway.

I can wait but still excited to play, if I had a flash cart already I might have started emulating it but I don't already have one and ehh, I'm cool with paying for the few games I want and buy for 3DS.

A Switch version would be really nice indeed.

It's a pity we probably won't get a PS4 version, but it depends.

Plus, I'd like to have a Vita version like the Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remasters.

I've picked this up, but I haven't played it yet. I tried the previous 3DS one and loved it until I hit the second island/dungeon. The difficulty spike and constant encounters were really too annoying for me to continue playing. I've heard, though, that this game improves upon many of the issues with the last. Is that true?

So I picked up this game yesterday and I must say, I am having an absolute blast! I was introduced to this game years ago on the PS2 and now that I finally have the updated 3DS version, I am admittedly hooked.

Be warned, however. This game is not going to be afraid to challenge you. Even regular encounters can be deadly if you're not prepared.

I never played seven. In fact, I bought eight because that was my entry point to the series, but I will say that if you want to get the most out of this game, having lots of gold is going to be a good thing. Where I currently am in the game, I have all four party members equipped with the best weapons and gear I can purchase, but battles can still be quite tough.

Once you have access to the Alchemy Pot, I highly suggest searching bookcases for as many recipes as you can and horde anything you can get your hands on in the Bag. By doing that, you can create better items and rare gear that you can't find in shops.

Well I haven't played DQVII at all but there are zero random encounters in DQ VIII, you see the enemies on the field and can fight or avoid them. It is a game that requires a little grinding for gold if you want to have suitable equipment and I remember from the PS2 version that certain bosses seemed more difficult than they should have been but I think that's just a DQ thing in general, it's very much an old style JRPG.

I haven't been playing much of it due to work, but on the 3DS I'm up to the khalimari boss fight.

On the PS2 version way back, I was level 71 and had defeated 6 dragovian lord forms, 7th one was giving me trouble.

Also, to level up during that time I just warped to a particular hill high up and fought metal slimes and king metal slimes.
