Spoilers to the game, minor spoilers but none the less- Spoiler So why do you all think Colress came back. It seems so odd to have this character return of any since Colress did have one mention in the XY games but after a generation of silence why come back now? Do you think he will be a bigger plot point in the next game and do you think it will be about his time in both Team Plasma and now the Aether Foundation, what he has seen and how he can combine the teams?
I kinda thought maybe he was doing some work for Aether or something but I guess not? His appearance was out of left field but I enjoyed it!
I'll put it in a spoiler too just in case I guess lol Spoiler That is an interesting theory, that would be cool xD However I just think that since it's an anniversary and everything was supposed to come together, they tried to throw in as many returning characters as possible. And having him, (as a scientist) be in the Aether Foundation made the most sense. I also think more gen 5 characters are present in Alola because Unova is the only other American based region.
Spoiler They could have always made Blaine return, though not American he was a gen 1 scientist. Even Bill would have made sense. I find Colress such an odd choice.
Spoiler That's true, but isn't Blaine like retired by now? xD And Bill has always been a weird character, I feel like he always stays in kanto to moderate the PC system. Colress might have followed the news around Aether and gotten curious?
Spoiler No clue on why or how but it would have been awesome to get some backstory, even a line like, I saw something in the paper. Now I am so curious about how he came to Alola
Spoiler I read back the dialogue on bulbapedia and he actually mentions being interested in drawing out the full potential in Pokémon and he displays a great interest in your z-ring... So my guess is he heard about z-moves and wanted to check it out.
Spoiler That makes a lot of sense and know what I know more about him being there, what he learned and all
Spoiler I felt like that his inclusion was a last minute thing. Maybe since there were so many theories about his return?
With two clicks and a type of my keyboard, I have freed you all from the spoiler tag prisons. I think Colress was just added as an easter egg, much like Dexio & whatever the other one's name is. They didn't really play a huge part in the plot, and seemed more like a throwback than anything. The speculation as to his reasoning is still interesting for me to read, though, and I definitely agree with KK that he's there to investigate Z-moves. Power hungry scientist!
(why didn't I think of that) I do KKs theory makes a lot of sense and it is a throw back to G5 but I do have to wonder, he got away from Team Plasma and now the Aether, does that mean a mad power hungry man is on the loose.
It's a nice addition and I think it was well chosen for a cameo because in 2016-17, Gen 5 is in that sweet spot where it's new enough that young players will recognize him but also just old enough that older players will get a mild nostalgia kick and be like "Oh yeah, cool!" Also the Z-move research makes total sense for his character so it's not just a totally random pointless inclusion even if it doesn't amount to a whole lot.
Well, Plasma and Aether both 'care' about Pokémon. I dunno, maybe Colress was recruited for his Pokémon knowledge and is either in charge of Zygarde stuff or Type: Null's creation. This has so much potential, I want to see it in Stars maybe? #MissingNo
