Why do you think Grimsley was put into the game? Out of all the trainers they could have chosen, why did they choose him?
I don't know anything much about him, but he seems to have a cool design? Honestly same could be said for all trainers they include right?
I honestly forgot about him from BW, I thought he was just a sloppy inclusion of a new-comer! I think it was interesting but I don't see much of a point other than the aging meaning he may have retired and gone to the islands to rest.
Well Grimsly is one of many people to be seen again. Yes he's 2-3 generations ago, but he certainly was one of the tougher dark Pokémon users.
Maybe someone at Gamefreak really likes the character and wanted him to be remembered? I really don't know. I never liked Grimsley because he always reminded me of this guy I once knew and had to be around who was incredibly pretentious, thought he was a lot smarter than he really was and always annoyed me with this bullshit arrogant attitude infused in everything he said and did.
Because he's hot af have u seen him? But really, maybe he just fit? Sharpedo's a dark type after all.
Elite Four members tend to get special treatment in the games. Lance became a champion in the generation after he was an elite four member and played an important part in Johto. Koga and Caitlin used to have other important titles but became elite four members as well. Bruno was an elite four member twice in two generations and Malva was sort of a guide/spokesperson while also being an elite four member in Kalos. I'm sure just like with Anabel (who was a battle frontier brain back in Emerald) her and Grimsley were chosen for design/plot reasons.
He's just on vacation from New York to Hawaii I actually really don't have an idea. Yes he's an elite four member with an interesting design that was never expanded upon... But there's many more gym leaders and elite four members like that. His only reason for being there to me so far is that he gave me a sharpedo caller and sweeped me in the battle tree, which any of those others could've done as well xD Also I have to know this now lol, sorry Wasn't he the champion before Blue beat him right before you get there, who just got promoted back when Red decided to travel further?
I think that was the case, KK. But I really don't know why he was hauled back. He seems really out of place to me.
^ This. Also, I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in BW that Caitlin and Grimsley were from other regions? Perhaps Grimsley is actually from Alola (which DEFINITELY would fit if you ask me). I'm pretty sure that's the case. PLEASE AND THANK YOU
Yeah Caitlin was one of the Battle Frontier people. Except she wasn't allowed to battle because her psychic power was unstable.
This part I do remember. And then we saw Caitlin in BW as an E4 member, so it's been shown to happen (for characters to play bigger roles in next generation games) in the past! Could you explain what you mean a little more?
I really don't know why. Maybe he was special in a certain way. But whatever the reason is, I'm glad they added him back in, he was my favorite Elite Four member in Unova.
Well...he does have an excellent design, and he might just be on vacation, but since I make it my mission to constantly over-think EVERYTHING, here's another conspiracy theory! Everybody: 'OH GOD NOOOO!!' So, I found this on Bulbapedia. 'He is the son of a distinguished family that fell into ruin. As a result, he developed a gambling addiction.' Maybe he's there to pay off some of his debt? Or something to do with his family? Personally, all his dialogue sounds like a mix of 'street' talk (eg 'man oh man') and philosophical quotes (eg 'a beautiful loss'). I'll be doing some research on who else talks like that. Also, a recurring theme in his speech is 'winning and losing', which can be attributed to gambling, but maybe can also be tied to something else. For some reason, I think he was the reason the family fell into ruin, maybe with some shady connections with different evil organizations. ------------------------- Here's my headcanon, and maybe the reason he's in Alola. Spoiler Grimsley falls out with his family, maybe because they were 'distinguished' and he's an odd Dark-Type dude, I don't know. To escape his family, he turns to other means, and stumbles upon Team Plasma's research. Perhaps this is how Lusamine got the idea to freeze her creepy collection of Pokémon. In spite of his family, he decides to go against their refined wishes and starts becoming the very sort of Trainer his family does not like. To pay off his debts to people he turned to to leave his family, Grimsley sells info on Team Plasma's research to Aether. This is discovered by his family, and then Unova. The reputation is in ruins. Aether puts the research into effect, freezing Pokémon, but somehow the story leaks out to the rest of Alola. It is not discovered how Aether got Team Plasma's research, but Lusamine threatens Grimsley. I don't know if this is just me, but Lusamine battles similarly to Grimsley. Grimsley cannot go back to Unova during Lusamine's reign, but when you defeat her, he feels indebted and remains in the Battle Tree, not willing to go back to the ruins of his family, who all blame him for their destruction. ------------- If anyone has an idea of who Grimsley's family is, please tell me! #MissingNo
I just read my reason. Not what I meant. Yes he's a few generations ago but here's something to consider. Sharpedo is a dark and water type. Grimsley is a dark master. SO him giving you Sharpedo for Ride Pokémon makes sense.
They could just as easily grab a random Water-type gymleader for Sharpedo. So while it could make sense, it still doesn't really in my opinion.
Sorry, forgot about this. When I first looked I thought they added him in jokingly as a bit of a teaser to fans and to make a joke that I have forgotten since then. The whole daywalking thing is more of a personal thing. People around me used to joke that he would only come out at night like a vampire and that he was allergic to sunlight. We would joke about how he'd be up all night and sleep during the day and never saw the sun which was why he prefered dark types and why he had such pale skin. People who typically do that then come out into the sun all of a sudden and walked during the day were called day walkers as a joke to say, "Hey the sun won't hurt him" or, "Hey, he's actually a day person". However after taking more time to think I have actually come to a different conclusion. Sun and Moon were to be a big cumination to try to bring all the games back together and even call Pokémon back to its roots in either what it was or how it was originally invisioned to be. Think about it, Pokémon was based off of bug collecting that the creator did as a kid. Grimsley fit into this because he is a signifacant fan favorite and he fit a role that they needed to fill. He was also a character who had a flaw that played into the theme. Gambling at resorts is a big thing in the US in general including hawaii and Grimsley had some gambling problems if you look closely enough. What better way to make a character show up in a game for seemingly no reason than to have them do that. Heck he still talks about gambling in sun and moon and even tries to gamble with you when you first meet him. He was always kinda dark and shady and depending on when you encountered him, that added more to his character, but I'm getting off track. The point is they wanted someone with a connection between gen 7 and each gen to come in and make an appearance. They wanted someone that either played a huge roll or people had a connection with to come back. Grimsley fit because he was one of the most popular members of the elite 4 in gen 5. This is honestly the best I can come up with.
@[member="MarineAurora"] I know where you're going with it but also you need to consider who was on his Elite 4 team. When you do the rematch Sharpedo joins him and you have him to face. SO I think in a way it's an offspring of that Sharpedo
