    Chapter 1: The First Step

In the Pokémon region of Hoenn, there is a 10-year-old boy named Purple. A name that the boy himself never liked. Purple was always a wondering child. Purple's physical skills were never questioned, but he had a terrible sense of attention around people, especially in a classroom.

With mostly terrible grades in school, Purple's parents send Purple off to a town called Littleroot Town to become a Pokémon trainer.

This might be the only chance of Purple having a proper career that won't shame the family.

Purple and his mom are in a light gray jeep going to Littleroot, they are driving through the town of Oldale. He is wearing a blue shirt and hiking boots, and also purple pants, a watch, and a beanie. Purple stares at the moving scenery, people, and Pokémon who live there while his mom, who is driving, listens to some jazz on the radio. She wondered what starter Pokémon her son will choose but she knows that conversations with him are one-sided until the car stops.

Within moments, they stop at a red light.

Purple turns to his mom, "Mom, have you ever been to Littleroot?"

Purple's mom answers, "No, I haven't had the time to visit."

"Cool, we are going to have a new experience together, or maybe an adventure."

"I was curious, which Pokémon starter are you going to pick?"

"I prefer to pick on the spot. It is not a true adventure if you plan everything out, but being prepared for anything helps."

Purple hugs a purple backpack nearby him.

The light turns green and the jeep drives off.
Nothing happens out-of-the-ordinary in this world happens until they get into the wilderness of Route 101. Purple spots a husky man that is in a tree, trembling from a wild Pokémon. He recognized the Pokémon as poochyena with the creature's small size and dark coat.

Purple shouts, "There's a man being attacked over there by a poochyena!"

Purple's mom stops the jeep, "Where?"

Purple leads his mother on foot to the trapped man.

When Purple and his mom get there, she grabs a pokéball from her pocket and throws it. A Delcatty comes out of the pokéball. Delcatty was a big cat-looking Pokémon with tan and purple fur. The Delcatty was ready for battle.

The poochyena smells the incoming group and runs away into the nearby woods. The husky fat man climbs down.

As he climbs down, He appeared to be wearing sandals and a unique lab coat. Purple's mom instantly recognized the man.
Purple's mom asks, "Are you, Professor Birch?"

The man embarrassingly replies, "I am Professor Birch, I wish we could meet on better terms. What is your name?"

    "I am Mrs. Atom..."

Professor quickly grabs a satchel on the ground, "Sorry Mrs. Atom, I was trying to get some more research before your visit..." He looks over to Purple, "This must be little Purple. I can get him a Pokémon at my lab."
Mrs. Atom returns her delcatty to its pokéball, "I'll drive you there this time. I don't want my boy and you to get yourselves into more 'exciting' journeys."

    "Thank Mrs. Atom."

Later at Professor Birch's lab, Purple, Mrs. Atom, and Professor Birch enter the doors. The professor's 2 assistants go up to him. Both of them were tall men with lab coats.

The first one lectures, "I told you not to go research alone, especially when we are helping a new trainer get his Pokémon."

The other one recognizes Purple, "I'll get the starters."

The 2nd assistant starts gathering 3 pokéballs.

Professor Birch asks his first assistant, "You didn't tell May or my wife, did you?"

The first assistant responds, "No, Professor I didn't. Oh speaking about May, she went to collect data on Pokémon in Route 103. I'm sure she remembered to bring her Mudkip."

    "That's a relief."

The 2nd assistant brought 3 pokéballs back to the professor, "Professor, I got the starters."

Purple goes up the assistant and grabs one of the pokéballs at random.

The 2nd assistant asks, "Do you want to check the other Pokémon?"

Purple says, "I like to roll the dice. No matter what Pokémon it is, I am going to stick with him."

Purple presses the button on the pokéball and a white light releases the Pokémon inside. It was a small yellow and orange chick Pokémon.

    Purple smiled, "Cool, a torchic."

The Professor says, "Be careful, she is a little impish."

    "Does she have a name?"

"We call her June, but it is your choice as to how to name your Pokémon."

    "June is a good name."

Mrs. Atom says, "Everyone looks good here. I am going back to Petalburg. Good Luck son."

Mrs. Atom leaves the lab and then drives off in her car.

The 2nd assistant remembers something, "Umm Sir, we ran out of Pokedexs."

The 1st assistant mentions, "I thought of that so I ordered more pokedexs. They should be here at the end of the day."

"I think I gave May a spare pokédex. Just in case, she bumped into the new trainer."

The 1st assistant slaps his face for not keep an eye on the pokédexs, himself.

Purple says, "I'll get it from May. It sounds more fun to do that way, anyways."

The 3 men ask, "Are you sure?"

Purple rushes out the door, "Yes, come on June."

June follows Purple out of the lab.

Purple was in a rare state of mind; focused. Hide-and-seek and scavenger hunts are Purple's favorite games. Finding May was like playing both games. Purple uses parkour skills to travel to Route 103, which is north of Oldale Town and a hike through Route 101.

During the dash through Route 101, Purple leads June to a thick forest off of the path.

Purple says, "This is a fun shortcut to Route 103. The best part is that no humans are there to slow me down."

June gets excited and gets closer to Purple.

As they get half way through the thick woods, they hear a scream for help and go towards it.
When Purple and June arrive, they see a guy up in a tree under attacked by a group of zigzagoons. Zigzagoons are tan and brown raccoon Pokémon who like take items. Purple quickly counts 5 of them.

Purple asks June, "You like fighting, right."

    June nods.

"Let's see who can get to 3, first."

Both of them charge into the small horde of Pokémon. June starts off with a volley of embers at one of the zigzagoons. The volley of fire easily defeats it. The others react by growling or charging into Purple and June. Purple counters one of the chargers by giving it a kick in the face. The zigzagoon flies through the air and gets slammed into a tree. It runs off as it recovers.

The remaining zigzagoons get in melee with Purple and June. All of them punched, tackled, bite, scratch, and other painful options against each other. In the end, Purple and June are winning the fight. Most of the zigzagoons ran off and the last one faints from June's scratch attack.

Purple admits, "Ok, you win, June."

The man that was being attacked gets down and grabs a box and a backpack and then goes up to Purple.

The man says, "Thank you. Those zigzagoons were from some punks in red. They wanted my shipment of pokéballs. I'm afraid I can't give you any money, is it okay that I give you these instead."

The man grabs 2 small long boxes from his backpack and gives them to Purple. These boxes are 5-pack boxes of quick heal spray potions.

The man continues, "Believe it or not, these potions work on people just as much as Pokémon. You look like you need a few. Anyways I have to go to my Pokémart in Oldale. Goodbye, Mr....?"

    "Purple, my name is Purple."

"I better go. I hope we can chat some later, bye."

The man rushes to Oldale. Purple looks at June and sees a bump or two. He looks at himself and sees torn clothes, a few wounds, and can feel the others. Purple breaks one of the packs and grabs a potion.

Purple says, "Let's see if that urban legend is, true."

Purple sprays the potion on one of his wounds and the potion heals his wound and a few others. Purple's eyes open with surprise.

Purple comments, "A few nights worth of Band-Aids and creams done in a few sprays. Why is it so wrong to use this? I guess it is something to think about later."

    Purple notices June running off.

Purple races after June, "I will find May, first."

After some time passed, Purple and June find themselves on Route 103's Oldale side. This Route is a grassy area split in two by an inland river: Oldale side and Salteport side.

June charges at a wingull. The wingull is a seagull Pokémon with a small body. June scares the wingull.

A girl yells at June, "June, you messed up my capture! I need him for my pokédex!"

Purple catches up to June, "We're here to find May, not to mess with random Pokémon."

The girl says to Purple, "You must be the new trainer from my dad's lab. I'm glad you got there first. It would be weird to have a pokédex without a Pokémon."

Purple gets a proper look at May. She is about his age and wearing a green bandana on her head.

May is holding a pokédex, "I guess you didn't get your pokédex, right?"

    Purple agrees.

"I want to see if you can survive being a trainer."

May unleashes her Mudkip. The mudkip is a small fish like blue creature with orange cheeks.

Purple asks, "We are going to this, now?"

May responds, "Show me that you can handle being a Pokémon trainer."

    Chapter 2: Real First Choices

Purple and May stare at each other with their Pokémon between them. Each waiting to make a move.

Purple cracks his knuckles, "I don't fight girls very often but you are asking for it."

May says, "Wait in a Pokémon battle, Pokémon fight each other, not their trainers."

Purple puts down his arms, "Fine, June you're on your own, here."

June goes for the first strike and scratches May's Mudkip.

    May yells, "Mudkip use tackle!"

The Mudkip charges at June and hits her. May kept repeating the order. The 2 battle hard, each refusing to lose with their moves. Their movements in battle catch Purple's full attention. He can see every detail in the battle and May's voice became a beat of a drum.

Within a few moments, Purple sees that June is hurt badly. He goes into his backpack and searches for a potion.

As soon as Purple grabs a potion, June uses the last of her energy to finish off May's Mudkip with one final scratch attack from her claws. The Mudkip gets pushed a foot away from June and then, it passes out.

June chirps in laughter. Purple went up to her with potion to heal her.

    May says, "I'll heal them."

May pulls out 2 potions and a small yellow crystal. She uses a potion on June and the rest of the things on her Mudkip.

Purple grabs June's pokéball and presses the button. A red light comes out of the pokéball, hits June and sucks her into the pokéball.

Purple says to the pokéball, "I'm going to give you, a break."

May returns her mudkip to its ball in a similar way. She goes up to him with some pokédollars and his new pokédex (a red handheld device) in her hand. Purple
senses a trick that is about to happen. He grabs May's hand as she pulls it away.

    May screams, "Let go!"

Purple takes the pokédex and cash, "I fell for that 'keep away' trick one too many times."

Purple lets go of May's hand.

May angrily says, "I don't get it, how did you qualify to be a Pokémon trainer. I had to work 2 years longer than you to get my starter and what I found out about you is that you are below my dad's standards of a proper trainer. How did you get one of my dad's Pokémon as your starter?"

"I agree that I wasn't the smartest kid in the school but a few months ago, I got a lot better and my dad trusted me to go on a Pokémon journey."

"You didn't even give it orders..."

"It was a fight between them; I have to trust that my Pokémon will know what they are doing in a fight. Screaming out attacks just gives the opponent an edge on her."

May pulls out another pokéball with a different Pokémon, "I won't allow you to become a Pokémon trainer and ruin her or any other Pokémon you get!"
Purple gets in a fighting stance, "This problem is between you and me, not them. If you beat me in a fair fight between us and no Pokémon, I will give June back to your dad and I will go home."

May looks at Purple and can easily see that he is stronger than her. She wanted to fight him but she knew that she would lose to him.

May hears the voice of her dad's voice in her head, "Don't fight him, you're better than that."

May grunts and puts her pokéball away. She rushes towards home.

Purple stares at her as she runs away, "That's right, go home and cry about the fact that you couldn't defend yourself or your beliefs!"

When May is out of sight, Purple decides to go to Oldale and check on the man that got attacked earlier. His stomach quickly forces him to delay his mission.

After an amount of time, Purple goes to the local Pokémart with half of a fish taco in his mouth. He dashes through the automatic doors.

Purple talks with his mouth full, "Where's the guy who was attacked?"

The customers and employees stare at him, unsure what to do and why Purple is there.

As Purple finishes his taco, the employees pick up their walkie talkies and are informed of Purple.

One of the employees goes up to Purple and says, "My boss wants to see you."

    "Lead the way."

The employee leads Purple to the manager's room and opens the door for him. Purple walks inside. The mans from earlier was there in the seat behind the desk.

The man says, "Hello Purple. Can you take a seat?"

Purple sits down on the only other chair in the room, "So I want to check up on you, mister. Or do you like sir?"

"Call me, Mr. Wombat. Thank you for checking on me. Do you have any pokéballs to catch Pokémon?"

    "No, but I..."

Wombat pulls out a pack of 10 pokéballs on the table, "With those thugs out there you will need all the help you can get out there."

"What did these thugs look like?"

"Those punks wore red and brown clothes with red r's. They also had red jewelry. I think they were rubies"

"I can handle the Ruby Rebels with or without Pokémon."

"Ruby Rebels? You know those guys?"

"I know that there are two halves of the gang: Human Monsters and Pocket Power. Human Monsters are the true human power of the group and Pocket Power is the Pokémon power. Both of them share the goal of being more powerful. One way or another"

"Well, that is more reason to get more Pokémon and make them stronger. I want to see you again in one piece. I wish I could help more, but Pokémon League Rules say I have to restrict most of my items until you beat a gym leader or 2."

"I think I'll be fine. I'm going to catch a skoalth as my first captured Pokémon. I've got to go, now."

    "Goodbye and good luck, Purple."

Purple leaves the Pokémart and goes to Route 102. Route 102 was not too different than Route 101 expect for having a valuable Pokémon called Ralts. Ralts was a weak psychic type Pokémon with green hair. It is known to evolve into 2 greater forms that most trainers want. There were trainers everywhere looking for a ralts to call their own.

Purple was more concerned about going to Petalburg to show off his new Pokémon to his dad. He runs as fast as he can through the road.

Halfway through the route, Purple notices a few ralts knocked out in and out of some nearby tall grass. Purple opens up June's pokéball. June comes out.

Purple puts his fist up, "June, there's a bunch of bodies here and I want to know who or what piled them. Stay close to me."

Purple investigates the tall grass to find a trail of bodies. Every single one is a ralts.

A voice screams out, "I think that shiny is close now!"

Purple looks toward the direction of the voice. He sees a kid in a blue t-shirt and cap. The rest of him is covered by the tall grass.

Purple looks at the boy, "Hey you, what happened here with all of these guys?"

"I'm a shiny hunter. I had to beat up these ralts to find the shiny one."

Purple gets closer to the boy, "So you are beating up any Pokémon to find a freshly clean Pokémon?"

"No, its not that type of shiny. I was talking..."

Purple gives the child a left punch and then a right punch. The child is knocked out instantly.

Purple grabs the child and drags him to the road. June plays with one of the other knocked out bodies.

Purple sees June, "Stop playing with the knocked out Pokémon, he or she will feel what you did when he or she wakes up. I should know, it happened to me."

A trio of other trainers came up to Purple with their pokéballs in their hands.

One of the trainers asks, "Why did you beat him up?"

Purple looks at the trio. The trio is made up a bug catcher boy, a teenage girl, and a boy in grey clothes.

The girl says, "We saw you beat up that trainer, so we want to stop you before you hurt any more trainers."

Purple pulls up his fists and then makes a motion with one of his fists to come at him, "Let's get this over with."

"Wait a minute, you don't have a Pokémon?"

"I do, but I can defend myself."

The trio whispers to each other, figuring out what do.

As the humans were distracted, knocked out ralts were disappearing one at a time. June notices it and investigates. The mysterious force is messing with June as it takes away the bodies. The taunting force keeps misleading the torchic of where it was until it gathered every knocked out body away from the area.
June quickly goes back to Purple. She tries to warn him in her language but fails. Purple turns to June and hears chirping and a lot of "tor" and "chic" coming out of her beak.

    Purple asks June, "What's wrong?"

A ralts with blue hair pops out of Purple's backpack.

The trio of trainers gets excited.

One of the trio screams, "It's a shiny!"

The scream got the attention of other nearby trainers and they start gathering around Purple.

June forces her way into Purple's backpack to get the shiny ralts.

As June gets in Purple's backpack. Purple glows and then disappears, with the backpack, right in front of the trainers.

The trainers complain about not getting the shiny ralts first and then go away from the now empty spot.

    Chapter 3: Huh?

In middle of a forest called Petalburg Woods, a bright light appears in the normally dim forest. In the center of the now dying light was a surprised Purple. Purple looks around and quickly notices that he is not on Route 102 anymore. He looks down and sees the blue haired ralts standing right in front of him.

    Purple asks, "Where and why?"

A young voice is heard in Purple's head, "Call off your torchic!"

June pops out of Purple's backpack an starts looking for the ralts.

Purple turns to June, "I think there is someone else nearby."

The voice says, "Clam down, it's me the ralts. I prefer to be called Pete."

June charges at Pete. Purple quickly grabs June's pokéball and uses it to suck her up

Pete sighs in relief, "Thank you, I read her mind and it wasn't going to end well for me."

Purple gets down to Pete's eye level, "Where are we, Pete?"

"We are in Petalburg Woods so you can catch a slakoth. It is my way of rewarding you for knocking out that shiny hunter. The things that those humans will do to get someone like me."

"Umm... Thank you for getting me out of that jam."

"I'd like to see a bad human get knocked out for a change, but I do not think you should do that again. It might make you look bad to other humans. To answer that question in your mind, I am part psychic type, so that is why I am talking to you at all. I have heard ghost types can talk to humans too."

    "Is there anything you want?"

"Yes, if you can get me a leppa berry and a watering can, that would help me a lot. If you do that, I can teleport some berries to your backpack. I would go myself, but
I am too busy to get them myself with those shiny... I have to go back, bye."

Pete teleports away. Purple decides to look around and take a moment to enjoy his surroundings.

After a minute has passed, Purple slowly looks around for the Pokémon he wanted to catch. He knew that slakoths move twice as slow as everything and everyone else.

Eventually, Purple finds a slakoth and the fight begins. The slakoth is grayish brown sloth-like creature. June comes out of her pokéball ready to fight.

Purple grabs an empty pokéball from his backpack, "I got this, June."

He throws the pokéball at the slakoth. The pokéball sucks it up and then breaks immediately, releasing the Pokémon. The slakoth yawns and a ball of white gas and it goes towards Purple and June. Purple jumps out of the way, while June gets hit by the gas. Nothing appears to happen. Purple quickly grabs for another pokéball and throws it at the slakoth.

The pokéball hits the slakoth and starts shaking. The pokéball quickly breaks after the first shake.

Purple sighs and then looks at June, "Ok we have to do this the..."

Purple sees that June is asleep on the grass.

Purple not wanting to give up, grabs another pokéball and throws it. Pokéball number 3 hits the Skaloth. Purple runs toward the pokéball and silently prays for this one to work. The Pokéball shakes again and again until it clicks.

After that clicking noise, Purple's pokédex vibrates and makes noise. Purple grabs it from his pack and opens it up. The top screen shows a picture of slakoth, and a fact about it while the bottom screen shows the species' name, typing, what gender this Pokémon is (female) and the other physical traits.

Purple clicks on a button and then the pokédex asks, "Do you want to nickname you Pokémon?"

Purple clicks yes, types in the name Sam in the pokédex, and confirms the name.

Purple picks up the pokéball, "I really need to get a name book. Most Girl's names are hard to spell."

As Purple recovers June, a businessman with a suitcase is running. He looks scared. Barking echoes through the forest behind the businessman and is getting loud with each second.

The businessman goes up to Purple, "Are you a Pokémon trainer?"

Purple answers, "Yes, who is after you."

"I have important papers that some Ruby Rebel wants."

A voice from the distance says, "I am not part of those mindless meatheads, we are part of Team Magma."

A man in red and black clothes with a black M, appears with a poochyena in front of him.

The Team Magma man continues, "I will get those papers and take them back to my boss. Stay out of the way kid, unless you want to get hurt."

Purple responds, "It matters, who is Team Magma?"

"Normally, I would be happy to explain my group, but I am in middle an important chore right now."

The Team Magma man's Poochyena cuts off the businessman's escape route and growls at him.

The businessman begs to Purple, "Please help, I work for Devon Co. I have plans for a project for the company."

Purple releases his Pokémon out of their balls, "I don't like looters especially from some random jerk from a group that I never heard of."

The Team Magma man says, "You don't know what you got yourself into, you dumb brat. Poochyena use Tackle!"

With June still asleep, the poochyena tries to make the first move but is countered by Sam's sleepily gas attack (yawn). Despite being hit, the poochyena hits Sam with a determined tackle.

Purple charges at the Team Magma man which catches him off guard. Purple gives his opponent a kick behind his knee to bring him down to his level. Purple jabs the Team Magma man as he falls down. Sam slowly makes her way to help Purple.

As Sam crawls away, June wakes up and sees the poochyena slowly opening its eyes. June reacts by toasting the poochyena with an ember attack. The poochyena is now put in a more extended sleep. June looks around to see what is happening. She sees that Purple is in danger and rushes to action.

The Team Magma man slaps Purple hard. Purple's head is forcefully turned left and he sees his Pokémon coming to his aid. Purple punches his opponent with his right hand.

Purple shows his left hand to his Pokémon, "This fight is mine, don't help!"

The Team Magma man recovers from the blow, "You have a death wish, kid?"

Sam uses her yawn attack on the Team Magma man. The Team Magma Man is hit with Purple in the range of the blast. The Team Magma man, knowing what the attack does, tried to get away, but the effects kick in before he gets far. Purple is trying to fight back the effects.

Purple struggles saying to the business man, "I need to go back to Petalburg and go to my dad's gym."

The business says, "I'll call a service to take you..."

Purple starts losing to the sleep effects of the yawn. He collapses on the grass. It feels soft and wet. He quickly closes his eyes and drifts off to dreamland.
