    EDIT:

Difference Between Playing on a DS and AN Emulator

So I've been thinking... is it really worth to spend my money buying a handheld so I can play Pokémon Black/Black 2? I can afford it but, is it really worth it? I can play via emulator, if so, what's the difference? Yeah, I know you're gonna tell me about the WIFI features: trading, the dreamworld, random battles but I can access those if I replace my wireless internet connection with a wired one. But I'm going to think about that...

I suppose besides the trading and wifi features you already mentioned we'd tell you about that there really isn't a huge difference, although DS emulation can get pretty buggy and not work correctly sometimes, where unless you clearly damage your system or cartridge a DS will always work as long as it has a charge.

Then of course there's the whole being able to play it anywhere thing, less of an issue if you are using a laptop or tablet but might be something to think about as well.

I don't feel the same satisfaction when using an emulator than using a handheld. But that's just me though. :P

The DS just feels so much more magical to me, something special about it.

No difference for me. Ive encountered few, if any, errors. You don't even need a wired connection for wi-fi - there's a way to do it wirelessly.

mm, yeah, I know about playing on the actual handheld feels a bit more... "satisfying". And I didn't encounter any errors at all, well I did once but my it recovered. Possibly cause I'm recording the game footage and I have some other memory consuming programs open at that time... And wait, Satix, I can still access the WIFI features even I'm on a wireless connection?

Same with me, I don't really find playing emulators as fun.

    Actually you can.

there honestly is not that much of a difference, as previously said but in my opinion its much more fun if i play it on the ds. i get to carry it everywhere i go and it overall feels much better when i am looking down at the screen than up at a computer screen where ill get sidetracked and on youtube or other websites.

Yes, you can. I'm fairly sure there's a guide on it under tutorials, but if not, remind me next time you're on and I'll post it.

I've seen a video about it but... I don't think it will work:

I've been thinking about replacing my wireless internet connection with a wired one... anyway, do post the tutorial. I'm dying to make the wifi features of Pokémon black/2 work!

I really don't like playing on emulators. I get too attached to my Pokémon and I end up trading them over to one game once I complete the one I'm playing anyway.

The only time i've ever played an emulator is when I began making a hack about three years ago. Hacks are fun to play on emulators, but i'd not play a legit game on one.

I think playing a 3D game on an emulator would really ruin it, that's why buying it in store or at least getting it on one of those card things is better than emulator.

I highly recommend gaming with the actual games for the simple fact that one day there will be no emulator strong enough to emulate Pokémon (possibly for 3ds) and what happens when your Computer stops working and your save files and Pokémon you spent so much time on are gone? Then you lose interest all together and never get them back. Long story short, get the games emulators are more for Lets Plays.

I've played on an emulator before and there isn't much of a difference besides it not really being portable (I guess if it's on a laptop it's not really the case). Also, your computer doesn't have battery life so you can play as long as you want on the emulator without it dying on you. I agree with Blaze about the fact that emulators are much better for let's plays (with the emulator you can take screenshots, record videos etc.) unlike the handheld version. So, basically the emulator is just as equipped as the handheld but I prefer playing on my DS because, in my opinion, it's more realistic.

Playing on a DS seems like such a more legitimate experience. It's portable, doesn't require special tutorials to use like emulators do, and getting games doesn't require downloading the ROM from a site (unless you use an R4).

However, playing on an emulator gives you the benefit of being able to back up your saved data. Since it's a file you can easily reach on a computer, you can store a saved game somewhere and start the game again without losing anything. I have White on an R4i, and I frequently back up the saved data because it contains all the Pokémon I've caught so far, barring a few on Black 2, and including the many, many Pokémon from Soulsilver. They're very important to me so the ability to save them somewhere more secure than a small device that you carry around everywhere is quite a calming one.
