So I didn't play these games but I was told they were great. I have been trying to hunt down HG and SS but they have always been a bit too expensive for my blood (they are going for 40-60 without box or pokewalker). I do own crystal which I enjoyed thoroughly and I have played it twice or maybe three times and enjoyed, but Gold and Silver and HeartGold and SoulSilver have always been acclaimed as amazing by people around me. Which was better? Was there anything big that didn't make it between renditions? Is there something you would change about the base game to remake?

Even if you manage to find one Cad you'll most likely need to change the game's battery as all three Gen 2 games at low quality batteries in them.

Which is better? I dunno I like both a lot, I played GS when they first got released and I played HGSS when they got released. To tell the truth HGSS is really a remake of Crystal not Gold and Silver, HGSS follow's Crystal's story.

Both the original and remakes are great, I love the originals because nostalgia and I love the remakes because they did add some new stuff, both story and post-game.

I enjoy both so much it comes down to CSC having better music (HGSS wpuld win if super earily GB Sounds was a thing in the newer versions) IMO

I have only ever played SoulSilver (And so I'm looking forward to finally trying out the original Silver soon :D), but I can tell you that SS was without a doubt my second favorite game (Only due to Sapphire being my first game). The walking Pokémon mechanic was so much fun, and the Pokewalker was a blast too; it was all the rage in middle school (Though I never did get my Flying Pikachu... :( ). They also gave some really good updated soundtracks (Fun fact, Lugia and Ho-Oh actually don't have a battle them in the original games), and had some really fun post-game content where you could catch (Steven makes a comeback toolater! :D)

I loved HGSS to death, there are a lot of features added to the games that made it more enjoyable to me at least. Gold for me was the real start in the Pokémon universe for me so it has a special place in my heart. To see that HGSS was expanded upon and followed Crystal's Storyline kinda sealed the deal for me.

I'd rate HGSS over GS mainly because of the extra features like wifi connectivity, the pokeathlon, and of course the National dex including Pokémon up to Arceus.

Out of all of them I only played SS, but I like them all for they're own way. GS's adding of eggs and breeding, C's story involving the three beasts, and HGSS's side activities like hunting for Groudon/Kyogre and the Pokeathlon.

I never played HG/SS, and only played Gold, so I think the answer is obvious. Gold is the first Pokémon game I really completed, Red/Blue I don't I think I ever beat because I never felt motivated to go the final stretch. I think I might pick up gold or silver to experience it again? maybe.

Though I played through Blue and Yellow, my first OWNED games were Silver and Crystal, and I played the heck out of both of those games, even after getting RSE (until the internal batteries died). SoulSilver was my choice for the remakes, and I absolutely loved it. It improved on just about every part of GSC, and I LOVE the PokeWalker (which I still have, though the battery is dead and the screw is weird so I can't open it to replace the battery). I'd gotten all the rares from the Walker because I walked so often with it (I think that, by the time the battery died, I'd lost about 20 lbs.), including the Bouncing Magikarp, the Surfing and Flying Pikachu, Beldum, and Spiritomb. ^_^

Can DS games be played on the New 3DS/2DS?

Honestly, I prefer the fresh coat of paint HG/SS put in. I am also a sucker for partner Pokémon following you around like in Pokémon Yellow version. :P

HGSS was a loving tribue to GSC, and it there wasn't a single letdown in the entire game. I can sit and think for anything to which I can say "it was better in the original", but nothing comes to mind. So good in fact that I might never play GSC again, but the tipping point of that is actually the physical/special split: I have a hard time accepting anything that came before that, even though I started with Blue.

My vote is soundly with HGSS. How can I turn down the opportunity to walk with a giant alligator at my back?
