Agreed. I'm just hoping that since I'm back into retail again I don't end up with anything myself :u

I'm pretty bad about getting my flu shots taken, I don't remember the last time I actually got one. But then again, I spend most of my time in the house anyway, so I don't remember the last time I caught the actual flu, either, heheh.

 

My mom brings home the sicknesses, she works in retail :c

Walmart is such a crazy place to shop. I've had a handful of unusual experiences shopping there myself so I can't imagine what it's like having to work there. @-@

About not being able to say no, may you're afraid of disappointing people? Sometimes no is necessary for your own sake.

 

I don't really like Wal-Mart, maybe because I work at Hy-Vee AKA the superior grocery store. Hy-Vee gives you free gas for buying stuff!!

At least Wal-Mart is a bit better than Fareway... Fareway pays near the minimum wage (min wage for Iowa is 7.20 USD and I hear your starting pay is 7.50 USD an hour compared to Hy-Vee's 9 USD an hour start).

 

I heard you. A friend of mine used to work at a Walmart as a cart-pusher and I think as soon as he got an offer for something else that paid even slightly better he was out of there.

Target's actually really good in terms of pay (they're slowly bumping up the minimum wage to 15, for starters), but man, it's kind of exhausting. I'm still used to having worked at Macys for like, two years, but it's a lot more of a department store while Target's way way more of a... like, a Costco, or something, heheheh.

My job starts at a nice rate but the only thing I hate about it is the sheer amount of people I end up seeing and I'm expected to interact with them... they don't care if its an hour conversation or a small hello, they EXPECT interaction. Due to this I act really weird and awkward around people and I'm convinced half of my co-workers hate me because of this. But the pay is really good.

Speaking of which, I might buy some Pokémon plushies one day using it!! After US/UM there seems to be a break in between must have games, so I might use it on plushies or art programs/supplies.

 

Okay I know this has no bearing on the retail conversation, but I'm just dying over this.

My flute needs to be repaired (the middle F note, a VERY common note on flute, won't play due to a spring inside the flute), and tonight and tomorrow night is the school musical where I'm helping in the pit orchestra. So how lucky does one have to be to have a super nice English teacher who also played flute her high school years and on top of that, said English teacher still having it???

I just can't fathom the circumstances lmao

That's actually not close to minimum wage, that is minimum wage. Federal minimum wage is $7.50 an hour, and if a state has a lower minimum wage than the federal, the federal minimum wage is the one enforced - and vice versa.

Actually, the US' federal minimum wage is 7.25 USD an hour. Iowa doesn't want to do shit so that's also our min wage.

So that's exactly why nobody should shop at Fareway: those poor workers don't get payed enough for their work. The world is a cruel place at times ;w;

 

I have absolutely no clue how people are expected to live off wages that low when the cost of living these days is so ridiculously high. It's no small wonder that more people in their 20s and below are being forced to live at home for longer periods of time, when that kind of wage is the best they can expect...even working a 40-hour week you'd be coming up short in the budget.

It's like the people in charge of this stuff have never heard of inflation.

 

Exactly, it's so ridiculous! Especially for someone disabled like me I can't work a full week ;;

 

Is there a benefits system in place in your country that you could seek financial aid from?

That said, I guess it might not be a viable option if its anything like over here...I mean, the DWP have been fairly good to me with my benefits, but I've heard all sorts of ridiculous and downright disgusting horror stories about trying to get money from them. A woman actually died in her home this week because she couldn't afford to put the heating on until her kids got home from school, and her benefits were cut off because she was too ill to attend an assessment. The government is no help whatsoever sometimes to people who genuinely need support...

 

There is, each province has a disability program.
