So the 2018 Winter Olympics kicked off in PyeongChang (South Korea) and as an extreme curling fan, I've been overjoyed I've made this thread so we can discuss it! Here is the full schedule: http://www.nbcolympics.com/full-schedule/ Here is a screenshot of the current scoreboard (to be updated daily): You may discuss any of the events here, controversies and the like. Happy discussing!
I've never been really into sports, but I did see some of the skiing and that looks like a lot of fun.
The skiing definitely looks cool. Here's something funny from the games: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2018/0...d-pyeongchang-in-winter-olympics-graphic.html
ah yes, the garbage coverage courtesy of NBC games. It's a long story as to why I hate their coverage, so I'll be sparing nyall the story. I'm not too invested in watching them, I'll just watch if it's the thing on right now. It's pretty fun to watch these people do things I couldn't even think of doing, ahah. also does anyone know if there are any more figure skating events coming up? I need to watch them for art refs the fact that it's my favorite sport to watch in these games.
We won 4 speedskating medals so far! Whooohoo. The 1500m women was really nerveracking, but Wüst managed to pull through! Also Nuis today won.
I haven't been watching it too much, but did anyone else notice that skier with the majestic American-Civil-War-Era mustache? I forgot his name and which country he represented, so I literally searched "olympic ski majestic mustache" and found out he's Robert Johansson of Norwegia Norway. Seriously, check it out (link). I'm pretty sure these whiskers are actually wings growing out of his face helping him get more air time.
I'm doing my own skiing / snowboarding event in the Bernese Alps. Also, I noticed the Slovak (i think) with the #FreeMeekMill on his board!
I've only been keeping up with figure skating. However, I did miss the first pair skating :C it makes me motivated to go learn figure skating but I know if I try I will end up with many broken bones.
I really don't remember the events that were on in the past few days but I'm glad the States are picking up more medals. Honestly these events are just blurring together ahahah. Side note but the commentators here can either be garbage or a joy to listen to and we've had both so far over here.
Wasn't Russia being kicked out for that exact reason? Was there really someone who just entered for himself and just did the exact same thing anyway? Or am I thinking of something else that happened?
I just realised the town I am in right now, Chamonix, hosted the first ever Winter Olympics! Spoiler: Big Poster
Oh yeah, one of figure skating pairs had skated to Yuri!!! On Ice! That was awesome and pretty inspiring. I just love watching ice skating. Makes me want to go ice skating too.
Exactly! They actually were competing under the "Olympic Flag" which is basically countries that can't afford to send delegates but have one or two competitors. These were supposed to be the "clean" russians but guess not.
One of my managers at work went earlier to the opening ceremony and two of the events. He got back today and said it was a total blast...well worth the $800 ticket to the opening.
Yeah, I don't think I'd pay that much for something like that. How many video games could I buy with that?
Well the Olympics came to a close with the closing ceremony earlier. Feel free to discuss any parts of it that you enjoyed / did not enjoy!
