Suggestion LV's Hall Of Fame

We already have member of the month to showcase members who contribute positively to the community...

 

We have an entire list of the MOTM people, so that point is a bit moot. They are remembered still.

Whether users can become MOTM again is another discussion topic, but I genuinely think we don't really another version of MOTM that accomplishes the same thing only with one changed rule. :<

 

The point is mostly that LV has a switching userbase. I have seen many people come and go and then return again. They wouldn't know about these people and usually, people on forums are not interested in the past, but in the present and the future.

I personally think that a Hall of Fame is an unnecessary addition to Lake Valor because we need to focus on the present and the future, and something like this drains resources and attention that the Staff needs to focus on other things.

 

If anything, I'll bring up the discussion about improving MOTM to senior staff and see what their thoughts are on it and if any changes can be made to it. =O

 

I have to agree with the hall of fame thing. MotM really limits to just MotM. A HoF would be more impactful people in general? There are plenty of people who have been impactful to LV but not been MotM.

 

The whole thing with MOTM is so members who have been impactful to the community will brought up by the community. I just don't see the difference. o.o

 

the difference is that MotM doesn't recognize everybody. Just one per month. Also, MotM only recognizes achievements prior to them being awarded MotM

 

actually, it does recognize any member. that member would be recognized for the month and then their name would be permanently noted in the motm members' list. that's how it works.

First, no opinion is unnecessary so no harm done here. We all want what's best for LV so I appreciate everyone trying to pitch in.

I wouldn't compare this to MoTM mainly because let's say I'm super active around the site and I get MoTM one month. A month after, the MoTM switches and I happen to do something amazing that month (for example: code a bot for our Discord server as a volunteer contribution). MoTM can't recognize me for that since I was already MoTM. So the point about the HOF (whether I agree with it or not) cannot be lumped with MoTM as they are entirely 2 different things.

That said, I think what's been tried to put forward is more of a "credits" type page for exceptional contributions. You can find that here:

It's a bit hidden (under "About Lake Valor") but it recognizes exceptional contributions by members who may or may not have been MoTM. We could always discuss about touching up that page so it looks better but once again, it wouldn't be anything close to MoTM since these aren't the same things at all.
