Pokemon Theory: Nosepass is going extinct

So I just had a major lightbulb go off in my head after a conversation that I just had that went along the lines of this:

“Its nose always points North according to the dex so yeah is suppose to act like a compass. Sucks if you're on the wrong side of the battle field when using a Nosepass.” - Guy

“Rip people that use Nosepass in the Pokémon world” - Girl

“Well I mean why people even thought of using it in battle when it "moves only about a centimeter per year" anyways XD” –Me

“how did this Pokémon survive the ages with that type of speed?” – Girl

That’s when it clicked-

Nosepass is going extinct

Evidence:

*Based on an unrestored statue, known for essentially having to have human interference to keep them from breaking, being vandalized ect.

*Probopass, based on the statues restored form (implying human interference) can’t be caught in the wild- meaning humans aren’t trying to restore the species populations/no conservation efforts

*In DP- they only appear in rare swarms, In Platinum they are the rarest landborn Pokémon in Mt Coronet at 5% encounter rate (In fact could be called the rarest omitting Feebas), RSEORAS they can cruelfully only be found rarely by smashing rocks (probably nests in which there kind live, or even the mon), B2W2 they can be found in places of which rocks are probably breaking- a manmade tunnel and and a cave with a puzzle requiring rocks to be smashed and thrown in every which direction: Clay Tunnel and Chargestone Cave, HGSS in the Safari Zone essentially restoring the environment within it to suit Nosepass (IE a conservation effort), XY they only swarm and that being in the area with decaying rock statues or essentially another HGSS case of a conservation effort, and in SMUSUM they appear in Akala Outskirts implying a now well maintained area.

* “It hunts without twitching a muscle by pulling in its prey with powerful magnetism. But sometimes it pulls natural enemies in close.”- Its choice of consuming Steel-type Pokémon is not beneficial in nature because Steel is strong against Rock types

* “Its nose is a magnet. As a result, this Pokémon always keeps its face pointing north.”- Feature of its being that is not battle practical

Really interesting theory! I also like the positive upturn in Alola, considering that there may very well be a permanently maintained population.

tbh, the only way that I knew that Nosepass was a thing was because the rock type gym leader in ORAS had a Nosepass in her team. X3

It's kind of a shame. If the Pokémon world weren't so battle focused, Nosepass would probably be much better off. It's actually a very useful Pokémon. He's a natural compass. What sailor or explorer wouldn't want one of those?

Yeah, though Alola Region seems to be the only region to date concerned with Pokémon populations (Think Aether Foundation and there conservation efforts)/being one with nature

It is a rock type, so how useful it be on a boat is debatable

Every other extinct Pokémon (fossils) are also rock-type, so maybe that's also a connecting thread.

I mostly agree with you and can't disprove these ideas, but I have an alternate theory: what if they're so rare because they can't exist close to one another? Nosepass are magnetic yes, but attraction is only half of what magnets do: they also repel. It's probably nearly impossible to get two Nosepass to face one another because of their magnetism. Have two south-magnets facing one another? Not happening, so Nosepass physically can't exist as a social species, which means they're likely to also psychologically adapt to being a solitary species, far spread out from one another (maybe even specifically not mating with others of their own kind). This doesn't explain the logic of swarms, but neither does them moving a few cm per year but somehow swarming a miles-long route for just a day.

So that's my idea: they're not endangered, but solitary and good at hiding. I wonder what GameFreak has to say about any of this?

Poor nosepass. And since it's not a very popular Pokémon, most trainers wouldn't bother to catch and raise one.

On top of that, it would be difficult for two nosepass (nosepasses?) to breed since two of the same kind of magnet would repel each other. My guess is that female nosepass would mate with other Pokémon of the same egg group, rather than male nosepass. Though, that would mean that only half the population would be capable of reproducing.

What impact would that have on nosepass society? Would the females feel pressured to find a mate? Would the hatching of a male be seen as a disappointment? Is there even a nosepass society?
