I've heard that a bunch of people don't like the Sun/Moon episodes of the anime. I, personally, really enjoy it. The characters are all enjoyable, Kukui is amazing, and Ash is absolutely adorable. These seasons feel familiar, but also switches things up enough to make it feel new and refreshing. But apparently it's exactly these changes that make others dislike it. I want to know what you guys think of the show now (please tell me I'm not the only one who enjoys these seasons). Also, it may just be me, but are the Alola seasons reminding anybody else of Digimon Tamers (season 3)?
I don't like the art style and Ash hasn't really shown improvement. He still seems incompetent and still and looses to pre-evolves still. I only saw the first episode and part of another but I was already turned off by it. Sorry if I sound really pessimistic but I may have liked it if they actually made Ash a competent trainer and utilize the strong Pokémon he has at his disposal like Charizard, Greninja, Snorlax, Goodra and ect.
Say what you want about the style, but the quality of the animation is great. It's smooth, colorful, and it's fun, just how a tropical region should be. The cutesier style did take some getting used to, but it's really grown on me over time. Also, Poipole is the most adorable thing ever. I don't care for the dubbed voices though :/ There's also quite a few surprisingly touching moments in the show. I'm sure everyone knows about the Stoutland by now, but one of the newer episodes involving Minior also hit surprisingly hard in the feels. It may be targeted at kids, but there's a lot of "circle of life" lessons scattered in.
Eh, I just really prefer the art style of the previous. Also, the characters seem really round. The animation and all looks fine but the art style is something that bugs me. It' also the fact that Ash never gits gud. He's lost to pre evolves with his Pikachu that took on a dragonite. I know he gets better but it gets frustrating to see him do really stupid things. It made sense in kanto and possibly johto but there was no excuse in the other seasons. He does those same stupid things and I actually got angry whenever he did something that was so stupid and such a bad call. Once again, sorry for being so pessimistic but I'm just not a fan. Also, the story is kinda hard to follow since it's really nothing like the games. I don't know, maybe it's just because since Ash is meeting characters established in games at different ages and stuff. I still can't quite wrap my head around why they changed Lusamine from psycho abusive parent to whatever we have now. Anywho, enough ranting. Adios.
I have mixed feelings. I watched a few episodes and then just stuck to reviews, unless I particularly liked an episode, but I know enough that I can give a decent assessment. It does some things well, but others incredibly poorly. The animation style does allow for a wider range of emotions to be portrayed. However, they often over use the comedic weird faces that in my opinion, 9/10 times are more uncomfortable than funny. There are certainly benefits, but every episode has at least one facial expression that makes me cringe. The Z-moves are almost never used for anything important. As this region's Mega Evolution equivalent, a Z-move should be an important challenge to overcome, not a oneshot attack to signal the end of a battle. They have also never used a status move Z-move. The latter is a minor complaint however, I just think it would be cool to see. I also agree that Ash is almost as stupid as Black/White Ash and just as dumb as Kanto Ash, which has no justified reason to be the case. It just makes us not like Ash as much. Now for the group. They never show a strong group dynamic. It's always just one of them (usually Lillie, or occasionally Kiawe) being useful and helping Ash, while the other four nod along pretending that they are important. Mallow is severely underused, Sophocles is just fatter, whinier Clemont with a thousand issues and no likability and no goal, Kiawe was cool in the first dozen episodes but quickly turned into comic relief, which doesn't suit his character well, and Lana only got a few episodes to shine. Lana's shining moments were amazing and make her character enjoyable, but again, we don't get enough of her. The number of characters there are takes away from each individual's development, and they are not convincing me that they are the best of friends and always help each other, like they imply. As for Lillie, I think she is fine. She got a large amount of episodes dedicated to her, and a sizable arc about her. However before that arc, her "I have to overcome my fear of Pokémon" episodes became repetitive after the third, much less fifth time they happened. I like her character as it is now, but the fact that she was so much better in the original Sun/Moon games makes me want more from her, and sours the experience. The Ultra Guardians thing should stop reusing the same animation segment each time. Also they should have more episodes where they actually leave the school building. Ash's team is pretty good though. Pikachu is better than ever, easily benefitting the most from the new animation style. Rowlet is adorable, and makes me laugh. Torracat is great, and it's backstory is touching, just wish it showed up more. Poipole is hilarious, but I bet Ash will have to release him at the end of the series like with Greninja, because Ultra Beasts are just "too strong" for him to keep. Seriously, whenever Ash gets a Pokémon above his skill level, he releases it! Butterfree (too strong at the time for him)? Gone. Primeape? Nah, too good. That Charizard is finally starting to obey you? Let's throw it in a cave and call it training so Ash doesn't have a trump card! Gliscor and Goodra would have been powerhouses, but NO! Temporary release in order to nerf them! That special Greninja that has a unique form only you can use? Quick! Make up a crappy reason to keep it in Kalos so Ash isn't tempted to bring it to any other regions! THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!!! Sorry about that side tangent. As for Lycanroc, it's also really cool, but the initial reason for its rage mode was really dumb. Getting it's fur dirty? Seriously? It never cared about it for getting dirty when it roughhoused with Kukui as a Rockruff! Otherwise though, great Pokémon. I like Kukui, he is a decent character and fun to have around. But I wish Guzma would show up already. And Lusamine is fine, but again, not as good as SM. At least she makes more sense than her counterpart in USUM though. Overall I find it watchable, and enjoy some episodes thoroughly. However, there are many drawbacks, and I feel it is right by Johto and Unova as one of the weakest series of the show overall.
i enjoy the sun and moon anime i dont mind the art style and i like the episodes so in my opinion peaple are just angry because they dont like change
While the art style was a bit of a turn-off, it wasn't completely killed for me. It was the fact that Ash hasn't shown improvement. He's still making the same idiotic mistakes as he used to and his Pikachu STILL loses to pre-evolves. The voices also seem a bit off but that's just me. It's also drastically different than the plot of the game. At least from what I've seen of the anime so it confuses me. (I haven't seen much of it so if I'm wrong please correct me)
I think it's great and I really enjoy it, the writers finally stopped making the same episode every time and that alone makes this the best season for me, the animation is also really smooth and great to look at. Team Rocket is also finally funny, I didn't think it was possible, but they actually made them genuinely fun characters this time around, I really hope they can keep this in future seasons. The English voice actors have also greatly improved compared to older seasons, I really like them personally.
Pokémon + Amerika capitalist scum = Pokémon Sun/Moon Srsly ēven sēriēs bāsed on spinoffs (Conqŭest, Mystery Dunĝeon) would bē better
I really recommend anyone who is iffy on the art style to give it a watch first. Originally I thought it looked weird too but eventually came to realize it's mostly just Ash and Team Rocket that look more different than what I've been used to. The art style is definitely something you can adjust to and I love the series personally...the characters are great, Lillie and Gladion's stories especially are done extremely well. Definitely suggest to watch at least a few episodes before judging!
I personally don’t like it. The art style is fine for most and just not Ash. The thing hat bugs me most is, however, the large group. Kiawe seemed pretty good in the beginning, but now is just another side. Mallow is amazing and useless. Sophocles is just Mallow minus the amazing. Lana is underdeveloped. Lillie gets 37295829592947% of the spotlight and reuses some plot lines. The Ultra Rangers and filler is, in my opinion, seriously stupid to new levels. Animation is CONSTANTLY reused. And Ash is an idiot once more. Too much comic relief, too.
I actually haven't watched any of it yet. From the bits and pieces that I've seen here and there I don't feel like the new, more cartoony art-style fits very well. That said, I do appreciate the smoother and more fluid quality of the animation. Also, it's kind of nice having Ash actually look like a ten year old. Even though he should probably be more around thirty by this point.
I haven't seen much of it, but from what I have watched it looks pretty good. Unlike a lot of people I think the animation looks really nice and lively. I personally think it's a step up from XYZ's stiff and lifeless animation style.
Just an update, I really adore this series. Before a week or two ago I'd only watched a couple of scattered episodes/scenes but decided I wanted to catch up and stick with it, since I loved the characters, atmosphere, and Pokémon. Been a great ride so far and I'm on episode 45 atm (watching subbed). Just passed the Kanto saga with Brock and Misty, which was done waaay better than I expected. Would recommend to people, I was one of those who was super iffy on the art and never expected to like it, but now it's by far my favorite saga. <3
I've seen some episodes don't remember how many. I have a hard time getting use to the new art style after seeing the same one for so long it just looks weird to me really but looking passed that I guess is an okay addition to the anime so I did find myself enjoying it.
