Have you ever had an allowance? If so, how much did you get?

I was never privileged enough to get an allowance. I think this video perfectly states it...

I do get an allowance. It was $5/month for a number of years (but more like $20 every six months because Dad would never remember to pay us), but now we're getting $20/month (and doing more around the house to earn it).

I made three dollars a week when I was in grade school. At some point (I don't remember when) that was upped to four dollars a week and went up until I graduated high school. At that point my parents cut off my allowance and said that they would start charging me rent, but it's been four years and they still haven't started with the rent yet.

Never really had one, though I did always help take recycles to the recycling plant and got a portion of the payment. :3

Since I need to buy lunch at school, I usually get allowances depending on how much money I have left. Once the amount of money I have drops below $200(Before all you Americans freak out, it’s $200 in HKD.), I ask for more. I usually get either $100 or $500(Once again, in HKD.) notes depending on how much I need.

No allowance, but around Christmas time (to do christmas shopping) and on my birthday I'll get 80-100 dollars. I also get 60-80 when I get to go shopping with someone besides dad.
Seeing how I don't get to leave the house without dad much (only 3 times a year minimum) I'm currently fine with it. If I find something while grocery shopping with dad he usually lets me get it (he is currently waiting for switch prices to go down and isn't ok with the idea of getting cooking or sewing books as I could just find online tutorials-being the only things he's not ok with me getting).

I've never gotten an allowance, and have never needed it. For me and all of my siblings, my parents have always been willing to just buy us things every once and awhile, but only ever on their terms, not ours, until we get older and have our own money to spend. Usually what my parents paid for was just little things, like a cheap toy or a candy bar, but I remember one time they agreed to help pay for my older sister's $2,000 flute, with the only condition being that she had to notice the difference when she played the nicer flute as compared to a cheaper one.

I never had an allowance when I was younger even though my parents always told us we'd get one. I've never really cared to have one.

I've never had an allowance and when other people ask why my mother always says that she pays us through the power, water, grocery, and internet bills. But if I ask, she is usually nice enough to buy me something, but I usually chicken out of asking, though...

I got about $10 pocket money per fortnight if I did all my chores. That stopped a few years ago when I got myself a real job, though.

I feel a bit odd considering I had, and still sort of have an allowance. In middle school it was $5 a week. Once I reached high school, it became $10 a week, but now that I'm about to enter college that amount skyrocketed to $400 a month since I have a card ovo;; I don't spend it all in one month, but it's there.

Nope, never experienced getting an allowance. If I'd wanted something I had to tell parents and hope they were able to get it for me. More expensive things would be for birthdays and other special events, like Christmas. Guess parents preferred knowing exactly what their money would be used for? ha

Same here. It's always been "your allowance is your free rent and food" (with maybe one video game or toy bought for me per year aside from my birthday and chistmas until I got my first job). So I guess that means it's all... zero-sum.

Well, it wasn't always that way. For maybe a year when I was little, my parents experimented with giving me $0.75 per week if all my chores (including push-mowing the lawn weekly) were flawlessly completed. Okay, that might have been worth something back in the 1960s, Mom and Dad, but in the 90s and 00s? Maybe at the end of the month I would be able to afford a single Happy Meal. Maybe in four of five years I could use that to save up for a video game. I didn't learn anything from this experience: not the value of hard work, or the value of investment, and certainly not the value of a dollar.

Because of that I only get maybe one or two video games a year and all of my friends get what games they want basically when they want it and when I was selling some of the games that I hadn't played in years to a friend he said, "Dang, you don't keep a big collection of games do you?" Which made me feel a bit inferior, but I chose to not say anything, which my family doesn't make too much every year, so I understand why she couldn't afford to give me an allowance. Now I'm too old to be given an allowance.

    The Indian currency- rupees.
I get 100 rupees per month as my allowance from my grandma. That equals to almost 2$
It might seem less to most of you but here 100/- holds a good value for middle class teens. Hehe~

Up until a few months ago my allowance has been $20 USD (though they were flexible if I was interested in something that was worth a bit more). Since my parents thought I was doing well at school, it was recently increased to $100. To say I was and still am spoiled is an understatement. I developed a bad spending habit and find it hard to save anything. Hopefully having my own income will force me into shape.
