Unfortunately all artists run into the dreaded art block at least once in their artistic career. How do you guys get over art block? I personally like to look at other artists' work to get inspiration and sometimes I'll take small breaks from art because art block can be quite frustrating.

A way to get the juices flowing, for me, is to draw a character from a book or story. Most of my ‘art’ is of my Oc and his Feraligtr and now I’ve dabbled into drawing dragons from Wings of Fire which are the drawings in most proud of.

I've mentioned it a few times but I managed to have art block for a full 4 years at one point.

In retrospect, before the art block I was really pushing my self to improve with every drawing. Every sketch had to be a full fledged picture. Shading had to be immaculate. Lineart crisp. No experimenting.
And I think it just wore me out.
When I started drawing again it was in a simpler style and no lineart. I started having more fun with a more expressive style. Brighter colours. Bigger eyes. Blocks of colour and flowing shapes. I found it fun to draw again and experiment with different colours.

So I guess what could be taken from it could either be-
Try a new art style! Try that art style meme where you try and emulate different eras of art or other artists.
    or
Try not to push your self too hard. Improving is good but not if you're killing your love for the process. Every doodle and drawing you complete or never complete is another step on your artist path. And it's fine if you're not happy with it. You still gained some exp! <3

Nowadays when I'm having an off day I just let it be that, a day where I don't draw. And if it tries to turn into a few days I draw something SUPER in my comfort zone. Like a cute Pokémon. Or my simpler OCs.

(also if you're feeling unmotivated redrawing some of your old art can give you a boost to see how far you've come!)

Sorry for this wall of text lol.

I usually try and identify what I'm having problems with and dealing with that. One of the best ways I've found for overcoming art block is to keep drawing. If I'm having trouble thinking of what to draw, online prompts are a big help.

And sometimes, the opposite can help overcoming at block. A break every now and again can help bring inspiration. I just have to make sure they're not too long

Taking small breaks is honestly the best thing you can do if you're feeling frustrated from a block. Trying to force yourself to keep arting isn't healthy, and you more than likely won't be satisfied with the stuff you're making. Not too long though! I try to limit myself to two weeks max, and make sure to look for plenty of inspiration along the way so I feel better when I get back into stuff ;)

If you get art block, write.
If you get writer’s block, draw.
    That’s how I’m going through.

Art block rarely happens, though, since my procrastination is worse.

I tend to just try and wait it out. I should probably try and find something that works better for me. though. Right now I tend not to get much done because of it.

I just keep drawing. Even if what I'm doing feels boring, I keep practicing at least basic shapes or hands or furniture. I always feel super guilty if I give up on a project, so I distract myself with other exercises until I nail at least one new skill.

i just stop and wait it out
and then it lasts for months.....and months......

But a lot of the time looking at other artists' artwork helps motivate me, since I get inspired to try my hardest and keep up with improving as they do.

Nice way of looking at it also. ^_^ I'm the opposite in that I give up a lot and move on to other things if I'm not a fan of the initial image, even before I finalize the sketch. But completing artwork you dislike obviously will help you improve a lot, so I've been missing out on that haha.

I'll admit, I've given up on a fair number of artworks...especially from MerMay. I have unfinished, half-inked mermaids that didn't totally appeal to me so I just gave up  But I learned a lot from drawing the basic concept and gained new ideas after dropping it so it wasn't a total loss.

I don't really get art block (don't draw often enough for that). But the thing that usually inspires me to start drawing is other people's art - from webcomics, forums, DeviantART, whatever. I have to imagine this would help me with art block as well.
