Everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days

Mastering a skill takes a long time, and there are bound to be flaws along the way. What's one mistake you learned from in your creative projects?

Mine was to plan out my writing better, and space out my updating schedule to give myself more time. Before I felt rushed, and like I was churning out meaningless chapters for the sake of updating. Now I try and identify the purpose of each chapter before I write, and then write it really well so I can be proud of what I upload.

when it came to writing, don't just go in gun-ho. get a over all plot jolted down so that you don't forget and make the story a huge mess with no actual proper end. ^^

Facts. I like to plan out the plot chapter by chapter until I've got the whole thing down so that I don't accidentally go off on a "plot-tangent!"

When it comes to the writing I do, I'm rather rash and want to express both who I know and who I am in my characters. I've grown used to separating myself from others, but I've ended up fusing people into characters that truly had no purpose in these stories in the past. I've broken away from that now, but I still try and experiment with it (the stories don't come out, though). And another thing is my grammar. I'm not great at such a thing, but I'm learning new techniques over the time I write. But, yeah. It takes time to learn what you're good at, and I'm learning that as I go.

Personally, I'm just not a writing type of person (I find it to be a chore), but I do have issues like this in art. I used to draw things for the sake of drawing, wither it was good or bad, I felt odd not uploading art at least once or twice a month, even if no one followed me or saw it.
By doing this, not only was I drawing things I didn't really care about, but I didn't develop any new skills or try new ways to do things. Now I take my time. I draw things I actually want to draw and try new brush types, colors, characters, and so on. And in doing so I've learned what I like and don't like and what I want to develop more.
I've scrapped large projects because they didn't fit me or I didn't have the time and I've moved on to other large projects because I got very attached to them. I still feel a little bad not uploading art every month because some people, even though it's only a small number, do actually enjoy my art. However, I feel a lot better knowing now that what I do create and put up is good quality and means something to me. ~

When I write, I prefer to figure out Point A and Point B before I start, and then plan the chapters in between around things I want or need to happen. I kind of just wing it from the start otherwise. My biggest problem in general? Picking a project and sticking with it. Coming up with projects is easy for me, perhaps too easy, but I do a lousy job of just finishing one project, unless it's a short one.

I also tend to forget about older projects if I've been stuck on them for a while and start doing something else. As you can imagine, this results in a lot of cancelled/unfinished projects because I just can't keep up with all of them. The best solution would ordinarily be to collab instead of pursuing my projects alone, but I often find that collaborating with others leads to me to doing more of the work myself than I can handle, so I end up right back where I started.

My rp and modding experiences are both proof of that.

I’d maybe start with smaller projects and try to finish a small one first, then move on to the bigger ones and trying finishing them. But I’m like the worst person to give out that advice, because I almost always abandon my big projects XD

The mistake I made that effected my writing style the most hast to be the first time I scrapped a big project. I had some plan moving forward and I started writing it right away, however my motivation for the story slowly drained away, far faster than any project. The project girded to a halt as I was moving through my plot points far too quickly and I finally decided to scrap it when I realized I had to rewrite most of what I had written. In hindsight, there were a lot of problems with the story that I ignored because I was too enthusiastic about it, but as the enthusiasm faded, those problems dragged the story down. The biggest problem was the lack of proper plot structure. I just got to into the story and didn't build up the world or the plot I was putting my characters into. This lead to me running through my plot points faster than I wanted to. When I scrapped it, I really hated that all the good ideas that I had went to waste, but I didn't miss anything else about the story.

I had a back log of stories to write so I immediately started writing the next big project I had. This time, I chose to take my time with development often only thinking about the story for days and nothing else. I didn't let my motivation control me and I let the story flow naturally. Now I have a huge world and so many wonderful ideas so integrately woven into the stories themes that it would be a sin to let them all go to waste. The world's built and the plot needs more work and fleshing out. I've also made it a point not to let my enthusiasm guide me into believing that an idea is the next best thing and I've put a lot of my story under a scrutinous eye to make sure nothing falls through like the last story. I haven't started writing it though for RL reasons that are holding me back, but the mistakes of my first scrapped project are having a heavy impact on how I shape this new story.

oh boy.. i dont have this with art so much because its the one thing ive bee steadily going at for years now but writing?? i have SO many regrets and mistakes.

the huge one would be just writing something for exposure when i was like.. 12 or so? so i ended up rushing the whole thing and people absolutely hated it!! they didnt even hide it which i find really funny looking back on it.... take your time on your writing kiddos!!

and i guess smaller mistakes are in there as well. stuff like whining over people not reading my stuff that was made for a very, VERY small niche in a fandom being a big one. so much that i even considered writing something i didnt like for exposure, which isnt a good thing.. it teaches you that you should make what you want to and exposure means like.. nothing in the long run lmao

I think the biggest thing I've learned is to write out at least the first few chapters completely before posting one of my fanfiction. I don't need my entire story planned out entirely, just so long as I have a basic idea of what I'm doing, I'm fine with letting my ideas flow naturally. However, if I just write a chapter for a new story and post it, I may quickly lose motivation and never go back to it. Writing the first two or three chapters before hand gives me more time to figure out what I want to do with the story, as well as lets me get really attached to it so I'm less likely to abandon it. I'm still not perfect at this, but I try.

While I find writing to be fairly easy, I tend to take way too long writing the rough draft. Rather than getting my thoughts out and revising it later, I prefer to dwell on the grammar as I write. This can make five paragraph essays take several hours.
