Me and my siblings are really weird. Whenever we're watching something where a character screams (usually an anime, though it can be just a cartoon or even live-action), whenever a character screams, we always critique it. If it's just your average scream, we just shrug and continue watching. However, if it's a really beautiful scream, one where you can just feel the heartache and pain pierce your soul, we comment about it, and I was wondering if anybody else did this. And I'm also curious if you guys can think of any really great screams. If you can think of some, feel free to share them.
I have two characters who have some consistently fabulous screams. These characters are Ran, from Detective Conan, and Maka, from Soul Eater (Japanese versions of both of these). Both of these girls scream a lot in these series, for a number of different reasons. Me and my siblings have even come to recognize just what somebody may be screaming about, just by what the scream sounds like (whether they're scared, in pain, trying to alert people that something bad has happened, grieving, or for another reason). It's really quite fascinating.

I've never quite paid attention to the quality of actors' screams, more for the method of the character's scream. Particularly the "charging up my energy" scream. Even if I myself was in an emotionally high-strung fight-for-the-world fight where I didn't have to worry about being embarrassing, my own energy-gathering scream (grunt?) would prob last two seconds at most, not the six-plus seconds we get in things like Bleach and Dragonball Z. As for an emotional wailing scream-cry, Shihoru's loud crying in Grimgar (you know which scene, no spoiling) both English and Japanese shakes my spine every time I hear it. Her VAs really know what they're doing.

As an aspiring voice actor, I think I should probably put some effort into learning to scream well. After I build my good soundproof recording booth, that is.

Edit: actually, now that I think about it, All Might's scream in MHA when he failed to... oops, almost spoiled. But you know: the big famous NOOOOO! that he did at that one part in Season 3. His Japanese VA made it a heart-wrenching roar of instant regret and rage and remorse, while his American English VA was... kind of weak. He was about as emotional about that as I would be if I accidentally dropped my phone down a storm drain. As much as I love that VA, I feel like he really let down the character of All Might in that scene.

It takes a lot of practice to recognize a truly beautiful scream. Me and my siblings have been doing this for years (I have no idea how we even started. Possibly because we were watching Detective Conan, and there is a lot of screaming in that show, and after awhile we just started to compare the screams).
If you're going to be doing voice acting in a role that includes a lot of screaming, or even just one very crucial scream, you probably would need to learn how to do it well so that the person who hears it can just feel the agony in the scream. Just don't hurt your voice in trying to learn how to scream right. I'm sure there's a way to scream without damaging your voice.

Lelouch in Code Geass has some pretty great screams. I don't think too much of JYB as a voice actor - I liked him more as a Power Ranger - but he's got a great range as Lelouch, from his girly shriek when Arthur is wearing the Zero helmet to his "NUNNALLY!" when he's falling away...oh, and his scream when he finds Shirley. Yeah, he does a pretty great job here, for a change.

Also, the noises that Noise in Suite Precure comes out with...sheesh.

@Gazi I'm personally aware of the dangers of hurting onesself by screaming, and even by doing a villainous/macho growly dialogue the wrong way. Though I have a difficulty: in my worldly life, I'm very calm, and other than raising my voice to speak over a loud air conditioner one single time a few weeks ago, I have not shouted/screamed/wailed at all outside the sound booth in literal years, not even to answer a question from across the house. This leaves me out of practice not only on how to speak-up safely, but also how to convey certain emotional expressions. And now that I live with neighbors on the other sides of my walls, I need to find a better place to practice. Maybe I'll walk into the woods in the middle of the weekday and just try to learn by doing.

Anyway, back to the core point, screams in drama are probably also a very good indicator of an actor's talent level. Most people probably don't need to get that emotional in everyday life, and probably don't need to shout in every day life. One measure I have of a good actor is how well they can replicate being exactly ordinary or extremely extraordinary, and the ability to scream emotionally is a good sign of the latter.
