I figured this would be the best place to put this.

Ideals: “If each [personality] could be housed in separate identities, life would be relieved of all that was unbearable” (a quote from The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which this team is vaguely based on.)

Translation: separating the good and evil sides of all people relieves the stress of this world and restores balance to the world.

Goal: to separate the good and bad sides of people and to destroy the good sides, in order to create an ideal, balanced world without stress. However they go about this with force, using their machine to separate innocent people’s personalities.

Idea: what if the player’s dad was the leader? His good side would be traits of him being a good, caring father, and his bad side would be the typical evil team leader. His good side is smothered by his bad side, and he wouldn’t recognize that the player is his son/daughter until the climax. His name would be Edward, in reference to the name of Mr. Hyde.

The first time you meet him, he would look vaguely like the player. Every other time you see him, his design slowly changes to look more like the design described below.

Climax: in some way Edward is struck with the weapon, and his 2 sides are revealed. He has only been seen as the bad side, wearing dark clothes, having black, wild hair and piercing red eyes. (They are noticeably brighter when his sides are separated.) The good side bears resemblance to the player, having the same color eyes and a slightly lighter shade of hair to the player’s. He has a smiling face; however, his whole body is faintly visible, since the evil has taken over and nearly destroyed the good.

A flashback begins to when the player was a young child, showing short scenes of you playing with your father. After maybe 4 or 5 scenes play, the camera zooms out of the player’s eye, watering, and stops moving when the whole face can be seen, and you say: “Dad?” This would be said in a male or female voice, depending on the main character’s gender. This would be the only vocal line in the game, to emphasize the importance of the single word.

Both sides of the father look at the main character- the good side gasping as he recognizes his child and ripens to him/her, and the bad side looking in disgust. The bad side then challenges you to a battle, threatening to use the machine to split you apart.

All his Pokémon are also separated in good and evil sides. Only the evil side of his Pokémon is visible. It has an effect on how they battle, similar to Lusamine. When you defeat one of his Pokémon, the evil side fades away before it says “the opposing (x) fainted”. As each of the “evil” Pokémon faints, his design noticeably fades. Whether you win or lose, he will still strike you with the machine. However, this doesn’t affect the main character because they are purely good.

Somehow the box legendaries intervene and destroy the evil half of the villain and then the machine. All people affected by the machine would be restored, and probably be all the good halves. All the evil halves fade away (similar to thanos snap), including every single grunt and admin on the team (since they too were purely evil). The father, having only the good half left which is very weak, becomes stronger as he apologizes to the main character, saying something along the lines of “I’m sorry for almost destroying all of (region) and you, I love you (main character’s name), I promise to be a better father” they hug, etc.

Their general style (in terms of uniforms and stuff) is predominantly dark, tattered clothes, and black hair. They would use predominantly Dark types as well.

    ~ ~ ~

Now would this ever happen in a game? Of course not, because when I created this a few months ago, I forgot about team plasma, and that their goal is to separate the black and white in the world.

Also, I have no idea what to name this team. The only thing I thought of was Team Jackal (because it sounds like Jekyll) but I didn’t like that. So if anyone has suggestions, I’m open to them.

I like this a lot, even though (or especially considering?) it's more character-driven than most Pokémon games of the past. Pretty much the only criticism I have is the coloration-based separation of good and evil. Why does evilness make one's hair/eyes/jacket change color? A scowl or a sneer with a change of posture can do just as well.

So here's two things I'm wondering. First, how does destroying the good halves bring balance to the world, if that's this Team's goal? If most people already have good and evil in them, isn't the world already mostly balanced? Would it make more sense to just separate people and have them go on their way, each half fulfilling their own (hopefully murder-less) desires? Also, since Dark type is called Aku in Japanese and is therefore literally Evil type, would you introduce something to be the opposite of that? A new Good/Light type, or perhaps designate a different type to oppose Dark? I could see Normal, Fairy, Fighting, Psychic, Electric, and Fire all fitting that role for different reasons.

It may also be fun to have a theme of Pokémon they use involve twos. Zweilous could be a big one, grunts could use Doduo, and I'm running out of ideas. Or maybe just everyone on this team insists upon using only dual-typed Pokémon, or single-typed after they've been split?

Hmm... so about the “splitting good and evil to restore balance” thing- I based the idea of this team around the quote above. The speaker said that because he previously had to be both good and evil. I assume he said this since he preferred being evil over pretending to be good around his colleagues. So I think this would be their mindset- that people wouldn’t have to worry about having to pretend to be either good or evil. I hope that makes some sense.

As for your type idea, that sounds like a good idea. I want to use “contrasting” types like Fire and Ice or Dark and Fairy (since it seems to me like the “light” type). Morpeko seems like a good candidate to use since it’s literally called the “two-sided Pokémon”.

And a name I thought of is Team Splice, since their goal is to “splice” the good and evil in people.

Splicing is to join, like to bring two parts together and smooth them out. I have experience using that terminology in audio editing, combining two separate tracks with hopefully an unnoticeably smooth merge. Maybe Team Split or Team Double?

Philosophically speaking, would you have plans for the existence of the rare individuals who are either so balanced, so neutral, or so something-else that they can't be split? Or can this Team find a way to divide everyone?

Oh my gosh, that’s embarrassing. I was thinking of “slice” and I thought “no, splice sounds cooler.” Well splice in that context makes absolutely no sense. And Team Slice makes me think of a slice of pizza. I think Team Split works best.

And if we’re getting philosophical, is there truly anyone who is balanced between good and evil? (Wow, that got much deeper than I thought.) But for the sake of the question, a neutral person’s “halves” would be equal, as opposed to one half being stronger than the other.
