    Scare Us Good!

@Ryan scares very easily and here at Lake Valor, that's a staple of Halloween! We're asking you to submit your scariest stories to us so that we can frighten him! No seriously, one of us from the staff team will hop into voice chat at the end of the month on our Discord and read your stories out aloud. Heck! Maybe we can have a full cast of readers! We'll see but in the meantime, let's get to writing them!

    Information
    - Short scary stories must be between 500-1000 words.
    - The only requirement your story has is that it must take a Pokémon with a creepy Pokédex entry and create an entire story around that entry and the details it contains! Be creative and don't be afraid to the interpret and stretch the meaning behind the entry!
    - No plagiarism!
    - All LV rules apply!

    Prizes
    1st Place - 200 PP + Oktoberfest Winner's Medal '19
    Participation - 50 PP + Oktoberfest Participant's Medal '19

    Deadline
Submissions are due by October 28th, 2019 - 12 AM EST.

I know exactly which Pokémon to write about. Hopefully it’s unconventional enough to be interesting.

Could this be the spark I need to jump into writing? I've dabbled in horror in the past, plus as a huge fan of the genre, I think I got some good ideas.

This isn't quite as scary as I hoped it would be but I hope it was unsettling enough!

It's been three days since we entered the desert in R228. Aside from the many critters that are known to live in the earth underneath us, there doesn't seem to be any life around. Haven't seen a source of water after we came, either.
Our Pokémon didn't come with us. Thought it'd be too cruel to bring them along for something like this - most of them aren't exactly built for the desert. Of course, some of my teammates are starting to regret that, but it's not like any of us even has water-types to begin with.
We discussed our route and mapped ahead, and it looks like we might be stuck here for a week, give or take a couple days. Should give us plenty of time to finish the job.
Thank Arceus we have supplies to last.

No sign of that rare Pokémon we were asked to find.
The boss sent us over to find and capture this Pokémon. He says we gotta keep our guard up, don't stop moving. Says it comes when you don't expect it, always in a group. That's why we're all carrying at least twenty Ultra Balls each - don't want something that smart getting away.
He sends us all in to brute force something that smart? For a moment, it almost seems funny. Until I remember where I am. The joke just falls a little flat.
Besides, I can't shake the feeling that there's something watching...

    Well today went just great.
Damn sandstorm manages to rip away everything we own. Every last ball? Down the drain. Our supplies? Probably rotting away underground. We put up protective cover, and even that was broken. All those weeks of preparing, gone in literal seconds. I'll be real here - that was no natural sandstorm.
Oh, but it gets better. I got separated from the rest of the team. Everyone's gone now. Can't turn to them for advice - now it's just me and the wild.
The feeling of being watched is stronger today. I don't think I like where this is going.

My predictions are correct. It only keeps going downhill from here.
The sun's harsher than it's ever been, especially without any water. Every muscle in my body just wants to rip itself in two. If I can't find help before tomorrow's over, I'm not going to live. Especially not when those things are watching me.
I can feel eyes on my back. When I turn, nothing's there. And yet I swear to Arceus that some creature is following me.
That something that was watching? Oh, now it's a whole lot of them. I feel them judging my every move. They're watching, just watching and waiting, waiting for something.
What I wouldn't give for this nightmare to end...

    I can't feel anything anymore.
The boss says not to stop, well, I'm dying either way, aren't I?
They're watching. I know they are. Come and get me.
I can't take this any mo

As the prickly creature stood up and removed the last bone from its mouth, it noticed an odd little device clatter against the floor and stopped making its noises. How strange. Without giving it a second thought, the Cacturne tossed it away and went on.

This is my first attempt of horror about any topic, but I am fairly proud of this one.

Kotaro, a tourist from Kanto, was supposed to meet his girlfriend back at a motel on Akala Island. Having no familiarity with the area, he took a wrong turn and ended up in a dense jungle. His old flip phone had no reception, leaving only his Meowth as a means of protection. “I dropped a coin by the entrance. Have you seen it Meowth,” Kotaro asked. Under the thick brush, the feline shook his head. “Figures. As if you could see anything at this time of night.” Large broadleaf trees formed arcs in the forest, leaving only small cracks of light to hit the ground. The limbs of each tree protruded as if they were a ceiling, trapping the few who resided there. Due to the lack of light, Kotaro and his Pokémon tripped repeatedly on a variety of large rocks that littered the forest. Sometimes they only lost their balance. Other times they would hit their heads, feeling every protrusion of the rock as it rammed their skull. The pain would often linger, causing their heads to throb with the intensity of a firm bite. At first, these impacts terrified the two. By sunfall however, it became a predictable and manageable occurrence.

Kotaro suddenly felt hungry. He was so aggravated by his situation that he had forgotten to eat. He found a flat patch of grass that laid below a wide gap in the trees. After such a long day, an ordinary spot in a forest could be an oasis. Taking off his backpack, Kotaro sat down and fumbled through his belongings. Inside was an incomplete photo album, an old novel, a cheese sandwich, and a tourist brochure for Akala Island. He pulled out the latter two items. As he munched on his sandwich, Kotaro searched for any information on where he was at. “Paniola Town, Brooklet Hill, ah, here we go. Lush Jungle, the Forested Fruit Orchard.” Meowth perked an ear.

“During the day this jungle paradise is the perfect escape from the hot Summer sun. Fruit aplenty, there are countless opportunities for you and your family to find the delicacy of your dreams. This regional park is day use only due to mysterious disappearances. If you see someone stranded, give assistance before it is too late.”

Kotaro chucked the pamphlet over a nearby bush out of fear. “That thing was useless,” he lied. “Nothing but advertisements for tourist traps. Let’s keep going.” Meowth gave Kotaro a look of concern.

A few hours later, the amount of time the two had spent searching became readily apparent. Meowth was starting to limp and Kotaro felt pain in his shoes. The sides and top crushed his feet while his heels slid on the back like sandpaper on wood. His posture, once showing arrogance and pride, now showed the confidence of a slacking student after receiving their scores. If there once hope in this pair, all of it left some time ago.

In between two trees a series of lights flickered in a morse-like pattern. They seemed to be some sort of message. The colors shifted from blue to yellow and then a color that couldn’t be recognized by the human eye. “Meowth there it is,” Kotaro exclaimed. “Another person! Maybe they have some directions to the motel.” The charismatic tourist dashed around the trees with his spirit revitalized. Before Meowth could catch up, he noticed something grabbing his lower paws. Assuming it was a small plant, the Pokémon bent over to free himself. Out of nowhere, two vines came from the side and locked Meowth’s arms to the ground. Worrying for his trainer, Meowth used every bit of energy to lift his neck. Mere feet away was a Shiinotic grabbing an unconscious Kotaro by the neck and feet. It’s face formed an unfaltering smile that vaguely resembled a child’s attempt at a smiley face. The grip formed from Shiinotic’s long tentacle-like fingers formed six deep, distinct indents into the man’s skin. The only indication that Kotaro was still alive were the sharp, harsh breaths that escaped his mouth during his induced slumber. Meowth charged at the Shiinotic to no avail. All he could do was watch.

There was a deep pink and yellow swirl that covered the sky. Littered everywhere were Shiinotic raising their young, gathering food, and creating new homes. The Shiinotic did not speak or emote. Rather, they flashed various lights from their fingers to communicate with one another. Some talked about their day, while others expressed their frustration with whatever was going on in their lives. Seemingly on his own, Kotaro floated over the great expanse below him. The Shiinotic buildings grew at a pace that not even Kotaro could comprehend. They swirled, dipped, and soared infinitely. There was no start and there was no end. All that could be seen was development, progress, and joy. Joy for the Shiinotic, joy for their culture, and joy for their happiness. By watching the Shiinotic, Kotaro had these concepts implanted into him. Once Kotaro landed, his body bent and stretched to form a hexagon, the symbol of peace among Shiinotic society. Understanding their language, he flashed colored lights to communicate with a massive crowd. Without even having to comprehend the thoughts, he announced, “we are peace. We are love. We are perfection. Through the removal of hate, deceit, and hypocrisy, we have created true peace.” Hundreds of Shiinotic nodded and flashed encouraging signals. “While our culture has no leaders, we can educate each other and enlighten those who have yet to learn our way. Oh how I am glad to be aware.” The colors of pink and yellow started to cover Kotaro’s vision. They swirled and swirled until all he could think about was his pure, unrivaled joy. Once Shiinotic released Kotaro, all that remained was a pitch black humanoid figure and a distraught Meowth.
