Game Freak have just announced new dlc content for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield in the form of expansion passes. The new content will primarily be grouped into the Isle of Armor expansion coming in June of 2020, and the Crown Tundra expansion coming in Fall 2020. These expansions will fealer new Galrian forms, returning Pokémon, new Gigantamax forms, new legendary Pokémon, new clothing options and even new Wild Area-like regions to explore. I'll now go through a quick rundown of what has been announced so far.
    Available Now
If you purchase and download the expansion pass now, you gain access to a new scene in the Wedgehurst Station where you meet your new rival from the Isle of Armor expansion, either the Poison-type specialist Klara in Sword or the Psychic-type specialist Avery in Shield. A Galarian Slowpoke will then show up which the player can catch. You will not be able to evolve Galarian Slowpoke until the Isle of Armor is released, however.
    Isle of Armor
The Isle of Armor features a new area that the player can explore similar to the wild area. It also features a new storyline where you train in a dojo under Leon's old master Mustard, against one of the two rivals mentioned in the previous section. You will gain the new Fighting-type Legendary Pokémon Kubfu, which witch can evolve into Urshifu in either Single-Strike Style or Rapid-Strike Style. Other new content includes new clothing and other customization options, new Galarian and Gigantamax forms, and item that can evolve Galarian Slowpoke into Galarian Slowbro, and the ability to customize your bike.
    Crown Tundra
The Crown Tundra features another new area similar to the wild area, which includes explorable underground dens where you can find legendary Pokémon with other players. Less was revealed about the story, but it ooks like it involves researching strange phenomenon occuring in this new area, as well as a new Psychic/Grass-type Legendary Pokémon called Calyrex. There will also be even more customization options, an item that can evolve Galarian Slowpoke into Galarian Slowking, and other new content.
    New Gigantamax Forms
    Venasaur
    Blastoise
    Rillaboom
    Cinderace
    Inteleon
    New Galarian Forms
    Slowpoke (Available Now)
Slowbro (Available in Isle of Armor)
    Slowking (Available in Crown Tundra)
    Articuno
    Zapdos
    Moltres
    New Pokémon
    Kubfu (Fighting-type Legendary)
    Urshifu Single-Strike Style (Fighting/Dark-type Legendary)
    Urshifu Rapid-Strike Style (Fighting/Water-type Legendary)
Two new Regis (one appears to be Electric0type, the other may be Dragon-type)
    Other New Content (Unsorted)
Acorns are being added, which can be used to make Acorn Balls again.
Move Tutors will be making a return, and will include new moves that can be taught to Pokémon.
A new Exp. Charm will be added, which will increase the amount of Exp. Points your team earns.

Who else is incredibly hyped for all of this! I think I'm about to go buy the Sword Expansion Pass right after I finish making this thread.

After feeling a bit burned out from Sword and Shield, the expansion pass is definitely a step in the right direction. Certainly a lot cheaper than buying a new full game like in the past.

I really love the new Galarian Legendary Birds though, especially Zapdos looking like a road-runner. I am absolutely getting the pass later today.

All sounds pretty good. I'm glad they're doing this instead of just releasing another game. I'm starting to wish I had gotten Sword though since the new legendary is another fighting type. I have no idea why they would make the new one a fighting type when one of the box legendaries was also a fighting type. (Edit: or maybe not a legendary, I got it mixed up with the other one.)

I had decided before that if Nintendo ever started paygating certain Pokémon, I wouldn't play anymore, but given that they're actually adding more content, it doesn't seem too different from just buying a new game with new Pokémon in it, so I'll let it slide for this. One of my major complaints about the base game was that the wild area was a lot smaller than I imagined it being, so I'm glad they're adding onto it.

I don’t even have the game and I want to buy the expansion pass! Also the starters finally have Gigantamax forms, which they should’ve done in the first place, but Rillaboom has a full drumset YES!

I'll likely wait until both packs are out, then get both of them together. A lot of these new places do look intriguing.

I was iffy on the idea of paid dlc, especially so soon but I like that they mentioned it would essentially stop the need for a third game which is nice. I am appreciating their live patching for the game and hope they continue that in the future to fix things like draw distance and perhaps some model animations etc.

As for the expansions themselves: I love both settings so far, I also enjoy the designs of the new NPCs quite a bit. Old man Mustard has great facial hair. I am very happy they are adding to the customization options actually. I found I had trouble getting a look I liked in this game since its like 70% sportswear. The new legends look neat, I especially like the almost griffin like look of Urshifu and the mention of different styles to match up with martial art tropes. New regis has me excited, they were one of my favorite things in emerald. I hope they keep the theme of the previous regi puzzles to get to them and not just make it an empty corridor leading to the 'mon. Glad to hear they are making this all like the wild area as well, its a good sign towards this camera/movement scheme being what Pokémon plays like in the future. I do hope they fix the draw distance a bit on Pokémon spawning though.

Overall I am pretty excited for these and will be purchasing them. Trading being enabled for non-expansion pass member stops this from being entirely pay to win which is a relief.

Guaranteed it's not a griffin and the name is clearly a portmanteau of Ursus (bear) and Shifu (master) and it looks to be an asian black bear specifically with it's primarily black design with white trim on it's chest. Kubfu even looks more similar in that line albeit more grey than 'black'.

Being that I have 0 interest in the game let alone the expansion I'll say that I do appreciate that the different 'evolutions' have different types without the model actually changing awkwardly and having Water type for the Rapid Strike Style is clever IMO, though I feel like the Single Strike Style given the description could have been Steel or Rock rather than ground and it would have 'fit' better.

I haven't gotten to play Sword of Shield yet, but I was really excited to hear about this expansion. I'll be able to get all this cool stuff when I finally get around to getting the game. I love the design of the galarian legendary birds, especially Articuno. So beautiful. I like the design of Kubfu and really like Urshifu. I'm really excited for all of this.

SwSh is so barebones as it is, I think it sucks you have to pay $30 more to get content that should have been included in the base game to start with. That's all I have to say about these dlcs.

    Thoughts on the new Pokémon.
Calyrex - Sorta liked it at first but the more I look at it the more I dislike it. The stick legs bother me.
Kubfu and Urshifu - Kabfu sucks and shouldn't be legendary. Urshifu is cool I guess, but again, why is it legendary? This feels like Zeraora all over again.
Regilectric (?) - Love it. Favourite Pokémon from the direct
Regidragon (?) - Could be better. Colours are nice though.
Articuno - Amazing. Like it slightly more than the original.
Zapdos - Looks great. About on par with the original for me.
Moltres - Never been a Moltres fan but holy damn the new design is great! Miles better than the original
Galarian Slowpoke - Boring. Galar Slowking looks interesting from the teasers at least.
GMax Rillaboom - Indifferent. Fine for what it is
GMax Cinderace - This Pokémon looks way better with the longer ears. The base form should have looked like this imo.
GMax Inteleon - Big Inteleon fan. Love this GMax.
GMax Venusaur - Nice to see the other kanto starters getting love. My boy Venusaur looks pretty cool in his GMax. I've seen a lot of people hating on this one but I like it personally.
GMax Blastoise - Love it. To bad he won't shoot water from the cannons in the game

Since I don't have Switch in the first place (let alone SwSh), idk whether I should be excited or not. But still, for this being the first DLC in the main Pokémon games, gotta say that I'm impressed. I mean, remember when SwSh first came out? Back then, there were dataminers who managed to leak whatever weren't supposed to be out yet (GMax Melmetal, GMax Toxtricity, some past legendary Pokémon with "already available" models, etc.). Tbh I reckon that the DLC can be a good way to throw them off because things like Gigantamax starters, Kubfu line, Calyrex, new Regis, and more Galarian forms (Slowpoke line and legendary birds) weren't available in the original Galar dex.

That's all for now. I might edit this upon getting more thoughts.

I don't care much for the gigas revealed aside from Blastoise and that's more because I compare it to a monster form Monster Hunter as a joke really. I'm very excited about the bird trio, mainly Zapdos really, but my mind also just sighs at more Gen 1 but these look pretty neat okay maybe not so much Moltres but still excited to see it. I'm very much looking forward to the DLC especially Crown Tundra.

I'll get the pass eventually for Shield, will hold off on getting it for Sword for now since I super slow playing through Sword and I'm still not done with it actually.

Well, it's more content for a game that severely lacks that in my opinion. And to put it bluntly, I'm not really a fan of paying 30 EUR more for a game that already should have that content from the get-go.
But what do I think about the new content?
    Why isn't Diancie there :(
Tbh, I'm not sure. The new GMax Pokémon look cool and all, but as I'm not really a fan of that feature, I don't really care about it. nice to have them though.
New Pokèmon. Well, at least they are adding some, even when it's behind an additional price tag.
So, I'm pretty mixed about this point too. Though I'm eager to see which Pokèmon have it made into the DLC.
The new areas. Well, more stuff to explore! Sounds like fun to me. However, I do hope they don't turn out like the nature zone (is it called that way in English?), as it was pretty barren. I guess only time will tell.

I'm not sure if I'll buy myself the expansion pass. It'll depend on how appealing further information will be for me. For now, though, I don't feel like spending 30 additional EUR would be a good investment.

I get ya, I don't mind spending the money personally but I've seen plenty be a little hesitant which is understandable since we actually don't know how much there is in these DLCs yet aside from roughly the total number of pokémon they will bring in. Which you don't need the DLCs to actually use you can just trade for them or transfer. Would be nice if there's more to the new wild areas than the one in the base games, but hey we'll be able to dive into the dens once Crown Tundra is released if I've read right so that sounds pretty neat at least.

I do have to say I prefer this over another USUM aka a third version split in two, 95% of the same for the price of a full game that sounded like it was far different and interesting than it ended up being. I love the post game story in them but all the new stuff came so late man.

I'm personally not excited for the new G-Max Pokémon (It isn't because of their design, but it's mainly because G-Max forms are kinda underwhelming to use if you ask me), and I also don't like the fact they're bringing in a few legendaries that weren't in previously (Mainly because they kill what was unique about competitive battles in the game to begin with imo.)

Though, I'm very excited for the DLC packs anyway, especially the second one since it's the exploration part and exploring a max raid den sounds very interesting. This game really needs DLC, and I'm very glad they decided to go this route rather than actually make two new games.

I'll be getting it...whenever I have money again.

I've enjoyed the base experience of SwSh, but other than replaying it again, there's not much else for it and paying for a 60 dollar remake of the same game has always been a little too much for me. If this DLC truly is Nintendo's switch away from overpriced remakes then I'm happy for it. As for the new content, I want to be as spoiler free as possible so I'm not looking at it. I don't expect Nintendo to change any of the graphical issues, I just expect it to be a good asset flip.
