Recently there have been a few monster collector games that have popped up to compete with Pokémon.

There's have Temtem which is a 3D adventure where you travel across the Airborne Archipelago collecting and battling creatures called Temtem to become the best Temtem tamer. It's currently in Steam Early Access.

More recently is Coromon which is a retro style adventure where you battle and collect Coromon and fight powerful titans. It currently has a demo on Steam.

I think both seem promising in their own way and having competition for Pokémon should give them more incentive to improve. What do you think?

(Just gonna drop some other Monster collector games before I give my opinion)
Disc Creatures: GB graphics any instead of catching the Mons, they sometimes drop a CDs which allows you to use the Creature. Also you use Mana for attacks.
Monster Sanctuary: I really nice looking pixelart game with a big story focus. Mana managment is important and using buffing attacks is pretty much mandatory (Just using your strongest attack won't get you far). Currently in Early-Access and gets a new area every 2 months or so.

In my opinion those games give Pokémon no competition. Pokémon is just too well established and most of those games are really lacking on the funds to advertise them properly. Pokémon is just everywhere while TemTem is still kinda niche and only known by people who really searched for something like this. Maybe if some bigger publisher like Ubisoft, Microsoft or Sony buys one of those IPs, they might become a threat for Pokémon.

As someone who's playing Temtem I can say there's no competition there so far, the game's good and all but as far as it bringing competition to a titan like Pokémon. Nope not there, not even close at the moment and I doubt it will actually do what some have "predicted" and make the titan fall but is a promising game nonetheless and fun, although very grindy.

First, both Disc Creatures and Monster Sanctuary interesting, I might try them at some point.
Second, I know none of these will topple Pokémon, it's the highest grossing franchise after all. If any of them gain decent success, and I hope hey do, it could inspire a larger project that could take on Pokémon from a company like Microsoft or Sony. I hope not from Ubisobt though, that's just a disaster waiting to happen.

Sony even had a franchise similar to Pokémon. It was called Invizimals, if I'm not mistaken. It used AR and was the first successful game which used AR, but compared to Pokémon it was still not popular enough and now they don't develop games anymore. The last game released 2015 or so.

Nothing can really compete with Pokémon at this point. Yo-Kai Watch was probably the closest thing to competition that Pokémon had and as far as I can tell that franchise is slowly dying off. That being said, there are plenty of good mon games out there. Some of my favorites are World of Final Fantasy and the Digimon Story games.
