Lately (and I mean I got to the culture late) I was introduced to the video series Death Battle. If you haven't watched any yet, they're well-researched and animated hypothetical battles between various fictional characters. If you've ever had a lunch table discussion of "who would win in a fight, Bowser or Ganondorf? Batman or Captain America? Machamp or Goro?" or other well matched combinations based on being undying villains, non-super heroes, or just number of arms; then this show did the hard work of research and video-making for you. Highly recommended.

Anyway, making a video is hard and laborious, and idly talking about such matchups is easy and fun! Which is what I want to do with you! Are there any matchups between fictional warriors who you think would be fun to watch in a video?

Right now, I have two matchups on my mind. First is Megaman Zero from his own game series and 9S from NieR Automata. Both are B.A. high-speed androids who use like using swords but are capable of rapid ranged energy bullet barrages, and who have dedicated their lives to defending humanity from also-robotic threats. I don't know how the battle would unfold. They're both very quick and powerful, and they both have access to mech suits, and while 9S is a capable hacker in the heat of battle, Zero is immune to computer viruses but is susceptible to internal corruption, and while 9S has powerful Pod Programs, they all need significant cooldowns before they can be cast again. I really can't call it.

The other matchup is a pairing to the previous, it's Megaman X vs Amazo (a villain from DC comics). Megaman X is very agile for a robot, and has a huge array of arm-canon powers he's stolen from defeated enemies. Amazo, on the other hand, is a robot who can copy literally any superpower just by observing it being used, and use that ability with the full effectiveness of the original user. Megaman X comes to the battle prepared, but Amazo catches up very quickly. If X doesn't end the battle within a few hits, he might be doomed, especially considering he can only use one power at a time, and Amazo can use multiple. Battle goes to Amazo, I'm afraid.

What fights and outcomes do you have in mind?

Death battles are fun and here are some categories that I think would be relevant in any death battle.

    Defense (How tough you are)
Offense (How hard you can hit)
Adaptability (Can you adapt to the opponent or situation)
Versatility (Can your weapons or the character be effective in multiple situations)
Experience (How long have they been fighting or have been trained to fight) *Thus we can have a debate over trained vs practical experience*

As far as the death matches above I can not offer much input because I do not know 9S or Amanzo really well. But one death battle that might be interesting is Alduin from Skyrim vs Thunder from Dragon Prince... I just might want to watch two dragons fight to the death.

A death battle I would like to see is Joker (DC Comics) vs Hisoka (Hunter x Hunter). Aside from the obvious resemblance in attire, both of them take pleasure in doing what they do for the sake of entertainment. They are arguably also chaotic neutrals in their own right, being that they only pick certain sides for the sake of self interest and nothing more.

The reason I'd want this battle to happen is because of two things. 1). Because I recently finished Hunter x Hunter and it's easily one of my favourite animes, one that I would love to see get some representation in Death Battle 2). Because there haven't been many DB eps (if any at all) that focus on the psychological tactics, and that's what these two characters strive in when in comes to fights; using the manipulation and confusion of their enemies to their advantage and by doing so, making easy work of them.

    Advantages Both Have:
    • Prowess in combat capabilities
    • The use of mind games to manipulate opponents and overall being very difficult to predict when it comes to fighting
    • Unconventional weapons and tactics that can easily take their opponents off guard
    Advantages Joker has:
    • A wider more diverse selection of versions and renditions to choose from, and knowing Death Battle's habit of merging different versions into one character (a habit of which that can irk me from time to time; even when it's a character I want to see win), this will most definitely be a factor in how they decide who wins
    • The DC universe is debatably much more powerful than the HxH universe. The most powerful of these characters (some of which Joker has actually beaten) can survive the radiation of the sun, whereas
Meruem: the most powerful HxH character in the anime so far died from radiation poisoning from a nuke, even when he was healed by Shaiapouf and Youpi
    • As mentioned earlier, Joker has fought tougher opponents and has more impressive win feats. In certain timelines Joker has fought Wonder Woman and Superman (physically and/or mentally)
whereas the most powerful people Hisoka has thought are Korupi, Shalnark and Chrollo, the latter of which he lost against and was very close to death.
    • Certain gasses and acids that Joker possesses may able to bypass Hisoka's nen and inflict lethal damage and/or death
    • Joker has seen plenty of enemies with numerous powers and has seen a wider selection of abilities than Hisoka has, which means he may be able to understand how Hisoka's bungee gum works, even if he can't see it.
    Advantages Hisoka has:
    • Joker will not be able to see Hisoka's bungee gum, being that he doesn't have powers and can't use gyo. The bungee gum could also mean that Hisoka has a battlefield advantage, since he can use it to stick to walls, and swing him across certain distances. Also, it could potentially render Joker's guns useless since it can also be used as a small barrier that traps projectiles
    • Hisoka's nen may prove that Joker will have a tough time hurting him, physically. The fact that Hisoka has nen in the first place would mean that he can fatally injure Joker with just a punch and retain much more stamina.
    • Hisoka can use his silly plasters ability (is that what it's called?) to heal wounds and even replace entire limbs.

In most of the episodes I've seen, it comes down to some particular ability of the victor, because so many characters in action entertainment can be said to be pretty much invincible to damage and pack incredible firepower, which I largely think is because Hollywood and game devs and cartoon/comic authors really don't understand explosions. Every side hero has "comparable" power to a main character hero who has destroyed a mountain and has been punched by that hero, so the punches start to matter less. But once you get to the unique things, that's where the battle is won and lost. It's the ability to survive in other universes, or to survive Kryptonite exposure, or to run at a fifth of the speed of sound that decides.

And it's been far too long since I've seen two dragons fight at all, and I think the last one I did see may have been in Skyrim. And most Death Battles are between human(oid) opponents, so I wonder where else that could go by getting away from that? I was recently reminded of the Liger from Zoids, a lion-like giant robot mech with adaptable armor sets to be used in different situations, as I recall with focuses on either mobility, close-range attacks, and defensive ranged attacks; but who to set it against? I wonder if someone from Transformers or Beast Wars could be a good match? I'm about to fall down a rabbit hole...

On a less serious note, I'd love to observe a battle between OnePunchMan's Saitama and any person with countering/mirroring powers, or alternatively someone who has the ability to resurrect~

I think a battle between Goku and Avatar Aang would be INTERESTING. I just rewatched Avatar TLA and I really liked it. Aang has some cool powers and bending is just neat in general. That got me thinking...what other shows did I watch that I should rewatch/catch up on. Dragon Ball Z immediately stuck.

To start off, their fighting styles are obviously much different. I think Aang would do well though because of his nimbleness. Toph calls him twinkle toes and she's right lol. I remember a bunch of battles with Zuko etc where he basically did this shadow defense type thing where he got super close to his opponent and just moved into the space where they weren't. Feel that would match the style of DBZ fighting where they get up close and throw massive amounts of punches.

It would be interesting also cause DBZ characters can fly but obviously Aang is an airbender. I wonder how that would play out in terms of the battle being in the air vs the ground. Also to combat Goku's special attacks (I forget what they're called), I wonder if Aang would just go into the Avatar state to equal stuff up.

Anywho, cool thread idea and someone let me know what you think if you follow these shows haha.

@Jupjami I was thinking about One Punch Man also recently, and given how popular he is, I was wondering why he hasn't been in a fight yet. But then I told myself "OPM's power is that he is strong enough to defeat anyone in one punch, so why waste a whole episode on him fighting anyone!" But you bring up a very good point! Someone with with a mirroring/copying ability might be able to match him under some circumstances. For instance, Amazo needs to see it being used to copy it, but it doesn't matter since he'd be destroyed as he witnessed the attack. But combining that and a resurrecting character, how about DC's "Resurrection Man"? Every time he dies he comes back to life with a very specific superpower to counter the way he just died. If he drowns, he comes back able to breathe water, at least until he dies again and becomes bulletproof or radiationproof or very-specific-hazard-proof instead. In theory, after being killed once by OPM, he would revive with un-punchableness or some such, and though he couldn't kill/defeat OPM, he might be called winner by stalemate as OPM dies of old age!

Death Battle is an awsome Youtube series. "He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick."

"And it's our job to analyze their weapons armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle."

"IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BAAAAAASSASSSSTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to see, Roxas [Kingdom Hearts] fight against....TenTen [Naruto]

True, Roxas would have the advantage of using magic, but TenTen has a crap ton of weapons at her disposal, plus, chakra, I would like to believe that it would be a tight match, and the wonner would be who could lsst the longest, which could be TenTen, seeing how she was trained by Gai, and Roxas, well, he's kind of like a self taught Keyblade weilder. So, it could be up in the air who would win.

That's actually a pretty interesting idea, and this is coming from somebody who doesn't like the idea of Saitama being in an analytic versus series (not until we have a full understanding of his limits; if he even has any that is.) But then again even somebody like Saitama can't be invincible and I always wondered, just like what you have mentioned above, what would happen if he came across a fighter that can copy abilities or endlessly regenerate - Resurrection Man, in this case being immune to the death he just experienced.

(Just so it's out there I know nothing of OPM outside of season 1, so some of this stuff might have already been answered for me.)

RoosterTeeth's Death Battle is a very fun YouTube series. And while I love how they're doing now, with their style and animation, especially by giving Wiz and Boomstick full animated roles, there are times that their research ends up falling flat and giving horrible results. (I'll note Yang vs. Tifa and Lucy vs. Carnage in this instance.)

Though, they have been doing better recently, and I still enjoy watching it. And regardless of inaccurate results, their animations tend to be really great.

If I had to choose a matchup that I'd want to see, I'd like to see Star Force Mega Man take on DC Comic's Blue Beetle. I just think that it works extremely well aesthetically, with two teenagers that get a blue alien partner and become superheroes, while also having cosmic levels of power. I think it would be a fun time.
