Before you embarked on your adventure across Paldea, you were an ordinary student at Mezagoza's Naranja Academy. You wouldn't think school life would be very exciting--you went to class, listen to the teacher talk for an hour, maybe get some homework to do, and so on until classes ended at 5 PM. Sure, you get lunch at noon and a break until three, but if they weren't napping in their dorm or doing homework, two hours was barely enough time to do much of anything--or so you thought

Those on the various arts tracks took the midday break as a chance to practice, and the school offered plenty of fun things to do on breaks. And then there were the various clubs and organizations--some met during the break, and some met after school. With so much to do outside of class, it was a wonder you even had time to do homework.

Now, a new school year is about to begin at the academy--what kinds of memories will you make on campus? Will you make your mark in the classroom, on the field, on the stage, or on the battle court? Will you get to meet some famous faces from across the Pokeworld, including the World Champion Hero Ash? Will you get to take part in the exchange program, and visit schools across Paldea and around the Pokeworld? Before you receive a chance to become a hero, what wonders and terrors await you as a student?

Sign up here with the following information:

    Character's name
Character's home region (if an exchange student. If your character is a native Paldean, you can leave this out)
    Character's age (anywhere from 12-15)
Character's physical appearance (what your character basically looks like)
Character's personality/known history (What is your character like, and what led them to come to Naranja? If they are an exchange student from another region, what led them to come to Paldea?)
Character's known Pokémon (You can have up to a full team of non-Legendaries)
Character's study track (this will be explained below)

The Course Catalogue and Your Study Track

At any Paldean academy (which last for four years, with a year consisting of three terms each), each student is on a track--a specialized course of study based on the student's interests and goals. If a student has no specific goal in mind, they can take a General track, which may have an emphasis on a particular subject. General Specialty tracks, as these are called usually don't pursue the emphasized subject as intensely as the specialized track, but these are good choices if you have an interest in a subject, but are not sure if you want to specialize in it.

The known tracks at Naranja Academy (so far)

General Studies (these feature a variety of classes as required by the Paldean Ministry of Education)
General Specialty (these are General tracks with an emphasis on a certain subject)

    Trainer Studies
    Coordinator Studies
    General Pokémon Studies

Writing and Literature (here you study various literature from around the Pokeworld, with a diverse array of authors and poets. You also can take classes to write stories, poetry, plays, and business writing, as well)

Foreign Languages (your choice of English, Kalosian, Talien, or Wakunese. A Paldean class is available for exchange students)

History (you can study regional history or general Pokeworld history. There is even a class focusing on Ash's journeys, known as History of the Hero's Journeys)

Home Ec (these classes will teach you how to make food, care for Pokémon, manage money, and basic life skills)

Math (different levels of math are offered, but the Paldean Ministry of Education requires at least two years of algebra and geometry, with first years taking pre-algebra. Higher math classes are offered for those that have already met the requirements, or are seeking a challenge)

Science (classes such as biology, physical science, and the like are offered here, with an easy track for those that are not that great at math, and a harder track for those that can handle a lot of math)

The Arts--Visual Art (These are for those that want to learn to draw and paint, including award winning comic and animation classes New for this year is a manga class, by student request)

The Arts--Vocal Music (These are for singers, with a variety of choirs and ensembles, including something like a school idol club)

The Arts--Instrumental Music (These are for instrumental performers--from basic piano lessons to instruments from around the world, every instrument is welcome)

The Arts--Dance (These are for dancers, you'll learn that Paldean dance is MUCH more than flamenco, and learn about dances from around the Pokeworld)

The Arts--Theater (These are for actors, and those interested in behind the scenes. Actors will get the chance to put on plays from around the Pokeworld, while those on the crew will learn what it takes to put on a play)

The Arts--Film and TV (These are for those interested in how movies and TV shows are made, including award winning animation classes. New for this year is an anime class, by student request (since Wakunese anime and manga is wildly popular in Paldea)

Technology (these are for the tech geeks, including how to code your own video games, building robots, and tech repair)

Athletics (Naranja offers many different sports, including a champion soccer team. The game against the Uva Academy's team is highly anticipated every year. Both Naranja and Uva have represented Paldea in the Youth Pokeworld Cup before--one of the main reasons for their friendly rivalry)

By no means exhaustive or complete!

The Paldean School Calendar (Fall Term)

The calendar will be updated with Pokémon days, local events, school events, and holidays as time progresses

    Sept. 9--First day of classes
Oct. 5--Paldean Pokémon Day (battles, unofficial school Contests, and other Pokémon events happen today. The music ensembles perform, the dance ensembles perform, and the theater classes also put on plays today)
Oct. 12--Paldea Day (regional day--you get the week this day falls in off)
    Oct. 14-18--Midterm week
Nov. 11--Hero's Day (global Pokeworld holiday celebrating Ash's victory over Leon)
Dec. 13-17--Finals week (once finals are completed, school ends until January 7, starting the winter term)

Before jumping in, I have some questions:
    • I get that Kalosian is French and am willing to guess that Paldean is Italian, but what languages would Talien and Wakunese be?
    • Will there be any Interpol-worthy cases in the RP story? Or since this is SV's prequel (according to your status' comment), would the game's storyline be such a case in itself?
    • Is it possible to take more than one study track at once? If yes, how many is the maximum?

    @SAF

Pokémon languages to real world counterparts:

English is split into Unovan English (USA English) and Galarian English (UK English) Since we are in Europa, you would probably study Galarian English if you decided to take English

    Paldean=Spanish
    Kalosian=French
    Talien=Italian
    Wakunese=Japanese

This is just meant to be an exploration of an expanded Naranja Academy, and the ups and downs of life in the academy. SV is a year after this.

You can, but it is recommended to be on no more than two tracks (although very ambitious students are welcome to take more!)

Turned out I got the Paldean one wrong. My bad.

So... I take it this is SV's post-game? I need to make sure of my crazy cat lady's situation before throwing her in.

Actually, this is a year before SV happens--it is meant to explore what Juliana (SV girl) was doing in classes before the meat of the game begins--and dramatically expanding on the academy itself.

I do have one concern - with such a large number of tracks, it might be difficult to keep people interacting with each others' characters if everyone ends up taking different ones - and even then there's already a lot to consider and choose from, just from variety alone.

I might join this one, but it depends. Already got a lot on my plate, sorry guys, don't get your hopes too high

If I may, I have a different opinion on using the word 'English' in itself which may contradict your logic... (pardon me for being a devil's advocate here).

Spanish, French, Italian, and Japanese imply the existence of Spain, France, Italy, and Japan, so you've made it so there are Pokémon counterparts Paldea, Kalos, and so on to avoid implying the existence of the real-life counterpart. So when you suddenly use 'Unovan English' and 'Galarian English', it kind of goes against your intended logic... because the word implies the existence of England. So I'm a little puzzled at the sudden exception for 'English', when the other counterparts don't follow that pattern.

In Star Wars, 'English' - the only universal language in that universe - is known as Galactic Basic, which I suspect is to avoid using the word 'English' itself in that universe. You may want to apply similar logic to your universe here (which, for instance, calling it Galarish). Even in my Fire Emblem fanfic, I've taken care to not mention the word 'English' itself to avoid implications in that universe.

Anyway, that's just my opinion, to align with your logic.

Separately, I can't help but think of football when hearing Europa  (re: the UEFA Europa League in which Eintract Frankfurt won this year)

Many of the tracks do share required classes, so there's still opportunities for interaction.

    @122 Generation

What would be a better term for English in the Pokeworld? Native Galarian refers to both dialects of Gaelic in my Pokeworlds (High Galarian=Scottish Gaelic, and Low Galarian=Irish Gaelic)

Better term? There are two realistic ways to go about it, in my opinion.

The first is to use Galar as the base itself and attaching a suffix to it, like 'Galish', 'Galarese', or 'Galian' to name a few. This is the simpler route.

The second is to go with what Star Wars did and assume there is a dominant general language but is not named after a certain place. In Star Wars, the language is called Galactic Basic Standard (also called Basic) where multiple planets and species (including humans) know this universal language, in addition to local language. You could just call the language Basic.

Or we could say they are both dialects of Modern Galarian--or just plain Galarian. Unovan dialect would be technically Continental Galarian, and Galarian dialect would be Royal Galarian, or just Unovan dialect and Standard dialect.

    I hope these will do...

    Fiorello Volta
    Name: Fiorello "Fiore" Volta
    Pronouns: He/They
    Hometown: Los Platos, Paldea
Age: 12 (entering as a first year student)
    Hex Code: #95DAF8
Study Track(s): General Studies (will potentially switch to Instrumental Music and/or Home Ec later on)
    • Writing and Literature (basic literature)
    • Math (pre-algebra)
    • Science
    • Fine Art (instrumental music)
    • Phys Ed
    • History
    Appearance:
    Preferred uniform:
    upload_2022-12-8_21-30-11.png
If you can't see the image:
    • Shirt: short sleeves in spring and summer, long sleeves in winter, weather dependent in autumn
    • Shorts / Trousers: autumn shorts in summer and autumn; trousers in spring, winter, and formal events
    • Vest: on random days -- whenever he feels like it
    • Blazer: formal events only (typically paired with trousers regardless of seasons)
Other outfits: Random T-shirts and knee-length shorts (or sweatpants during winter)
Fiore grew up in a family who runs an Eevee daycare -- basically a nursery crossed with a shelter for Eevee and its evolutions. One of the Eevee they took care of eventually bonded with Fiore and nicknamed Lissa. Fiore basically helped out in the family-run daycare until they overheard a volunteer there talking about Naranja Academy. Having his curiosity piqued, he decided to enroll there with practically no idea about what he might want to specialize in.
    Current roster:
    • Lissa the female Eevee
    • Will most likely pick a Quaxly if/when offered by the school

    Katherina Russell
    Name: Katherina "Katey" Russell
    Pronouns: She/Her
Hometown: Konikoni City, Akala Island, Alola
Age: 14 (this is her third year in the school)
    Hex Code: #FFC0CB
Study Track(s): General Specialty: Athletics and Trainer Studies
    • Writing and Literature (business writing)
    • Math (geometry)
    • Science
    • Fine Art (instrumental music)
    • Athletics (parkour)
    • Geography
    • Trainer Studies
    Appearance:
Preferred uniform: No preference -- she's willing to match her uniform with the current season
Other outfits: Dresses (plus leggings during winter)
    Accessory: A Skitty-eared headband
Katey was your average Alolan girl with a certain penchant of felines until she completed her island challenge by finishing the final trial atop Mount Lanakila. She then got info about Naranja Academy in Mesagoza, Paldea, from a relative who'd previously graduated from there, thus spurring her to properly start her studies there at 12 as she'd been previously homeschooled until the start of her island challenge.

While most people in the academy knew her as a crazy cat lady, little did they know that Katey had been recruited by the International Police during the academy's independent study period in the previous year. However, considering her current status, they decided to allow Katey to continue her studies first while they trained her trusty Incineroar, Torra, for the job. Her own training as an Interpol agent could wait until she's officially graduated from the academy.
    Current roster:
    • Florin the male Floragato (evolved from the Sprigatito previously offered by the school)
    • Mao the female Alolan Persian (Katey first caught her as an Alolan Meowth back home)

    Other known Pokémon:
    • Torra the male Incineroar (currently training in the International Police HQ)

By the way, which study track(s) is Juliana taking here?

Juliana is on a General with Theater specialty track (since she was interested in Naranja's robust theater program, but not sure if she wanted to specialize in it. Nemona is taking theater to fulfill the fine art requirement in all four years, as per the Paldean Ministry of Education, but is mainly in Trainer Studies)

So Nemona and Katey are gonna meet each other more often~ :D

Also also, is it possible to change study track later on? Fiore's taking General Studies for now, but they might change their mind after a year or so of their student life.

You can change tracks at any point during the first two weeks of a term--if you have to withdraw from a class as part of the change, it doesn't count against you on your report card.

You get two report cards a term--one after midterms, and one after finals.

In that case, since neither Fiore nor I have decided on a certain track yet, might as well wait and see whichever his interests will be drawn to. ;)

And one question that I should've asked earlier: are my kiddos good to go?

Yes--jewelry is allowed as well, provided it is not overly showy, and compliments the uniform.

Depending on what classes you take, you will have gym clothes or a team uniform at the very least, but you may also have ensemble/choir garb, lab gear, protective gear, theater training garb, and a school bathing suit/swim trunks.

According to the Paldean Ministry of Education, a student this age must take:

--1 math credit all four years
    --at least one lit/writing credit
    --4 geography or history credits
--1 science credit all four years
--1 fine art credit all four years
--1 phys ed credit all four years
