(inspired by Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, and the real world Camino de Santiago) In a fantastic Paldea far from the one we know, it is a custom and tradition for every resident to travel to the beautiful city of Sagrada once a year, and offer a basket of pearls and a prayer of peace to Arceus. But this is more than a leisurely trip across the region--many of Paldea's historic shrines house a cloister of trials, and worthy travelers (as those on this pilgrimage are called) must pass a trial in order to earn a pearl for their basket. Exactly how many pearls one should offer Arceus is up to each caravan--some will offer as few as ten, and some will offer many baskets filled with hundreds or even thousands of pearls. But it is generally agreed that a caravan should offer at least one full basket of pearls to Arceus. For many in Paldea, the trip to Sagrada is a coming of age ritual. Even foreigners will often join the traveler caravans, as it is a good way to see the entire region, and many of its natural and man made treasures. This year, best friends Juliana and Nemona are making the long trip to Sagrada from the small village of Cucharico, and have invited you to join the caravan. What wonders and terrors await you on your quest to gather pearls? Your journey down the Pearl Road starts now! Sign up here with the following info: Character's name (at least try to have it sound Spanish or Portuguese) Character's age (anywhere from 10 to 12 will do) Character's basic appearance (what your character basically looks like) Character's personality/known history (what led your character to join this particular caravan, and how would they handle life on the road? Have they traveled the Pearl Road before? Are they from a foreign region, and want to see all that Paldea has to offer?) Character's class (any standard RPG class will do) Character's current inventory (what your character is currently carrying--Juliana and Nemona have saved enough monedas (the currency in this fantastic Paldea) for everyone to start with 1000 monedas) Character's current Pokémon (you are allowed to have up to a full team of any known non Legendary Pokémon as of SV)
Known SV Counterparts (so far) Cucharico--Cabo Poco Amanece--Mesagoza (both academies are still present in this fantastic Paldea, and their grand libraries are open to the public--since this is based on Scarlet, you would visit Naranja) Pratolido--Los Platos Sevaro--Cortondo Cuencia--Artazon Leudal--Levincia (in this fantastic Paldea, Leudal is famous for its many theaters, and Iono is famous as an actress) Picadia--Zapapico Garrafosa--Cascarrafa Marinada Harbor--Porto Marinada Mestura--Medali Neveria--Montenevera Asarilla--Alfornada Mt. Napada--Glaseado Mountain Napada Town--Glaseado Outpost
Before throwing my hat in the ring, I wanna ask something: How's your stance on the in-game gimmicks (Mega Evolution, Z-moves, Terastal phenomenon, etc.) here?
@SAF The Terastal phenomenon was really more a gimmick to me than anything else--although I will acknowledge that crystal Pokémon look cool. Mega Evolutions and Z moves, while cool, often ended up making the battles way too easy. So any battles are gimmick free.
Whelp, ended up revamping an old OC as a male dancer (he was originally a shiny Sylveon gijinka) with his "movepool" being a mix of some Pokemon dance moves and Penelo's dance attacks in FFTA2. Hope you don't mind some old OC cameos here, though. Pepe Sylvan Spoiler: Bio Name: Pepe Sylvan (born: Pepe Coltheart) Pronouns: He/Him Hometown: Malie Town, Ula'ula Island, Alola Age: 12 Class: Dancer Appearance: (This is the best image I can get from this site on mobile -- will try to get a better quality once I'm on my laptop) Spoiler Pepe wears his slightly long-ish blue hair (imagine your typical male haircut left to grow for a year with no trims in-between) in a neat, low ponytail. As a human, his ears are less pointy than pictured. In lieu of the pictured set of armor, Pepe typically dons a red-and-black dancer garb evoking Oricorio Baile Style with a matching belt adorning it. His dagger and three small pouches (yellow for money, pink for the LA-style Pokeballs housing his current party, purple for his other belongings) are attached on the belt. The pouches themselves are enchanted to fit far more than their physical dimensions allowed. Initial Inventory: A basic dagger A Z-Ring and a full set of type-specific Z-crystals (from Pepe's previous island challenge -- ain't got a chance to leave them at home) Several empty Pokeballs (again, LA-style) Spoiler: Backstory Pepe Coltheart was born into a family of warriors in Malie City Town, Ula'ula Island, Alola. Despite his interest and talent in dancing, his father persistently wanted him to follow the path of warriors instead. From the seemingly innocent stuff (e.g. gifting Pepe a Honedge for a "sparring partner", so to speak) to the downright nasty ones (e.g. bribing Pepe's dance teachers to harshly criticize him), many ways had been taken to ensure Pepe's smooth path to knighthood, never mind that it often backfired behind his back. Like any other Alolan kids, Pepe took part on the island challenge at the age of 11. His father was against it at first only to reluctantly allow it after some, uh, convincing from the local kahuna ("You'd be a bad knight for stopping him from upholding traditions," the kahuna said). Still feeling rather peeved at the ordeal, Pepe's father planned to draft him into the local guard once the kid came home. Too bad it never happened, though. Instead of going straight home, Pepe took a round of Mantine surfing to Akala and boarded a random ship from Heahea Kantai Harbor as soon as he finished the final trial. Turned out the first ship he came across was heading to Porto Marinada Harbor in Paldea. With the prospect of a new land to explore, Pepe took up his mother's maiden name (he's Pepe Sylvan now), sold the armor his father had forced him to bring along since the island challenge back home, and started his journey anew as a traveling dancer and occasional mercenary. Spoiler: Pokémon Current roster: Four Oricorio, one for each forms: Oriole (he/him, Pom-Pom Style) Plumeline (she/her, Pa'u Style) Choreogel (he/him, Baile Style) Odoriko (she/her, Sensu Style) Potential members: Eevee / Sylveon Quaxly / Quaxwell / Quaquaval Spoiler: Abilities Mincing Minuet Non-elemental damage Blade Dance Hits twice for a bladed weapon (or four times if dual-wielding) Type highly depends on the weapon(s) used Slow Dance Slows a target down Witch Hunt Depletes target's MP/PP/whatever The dance version of... @SAF That looks good to go! I would only suggest including some offensive dances (eg. Firedance, Icedance, Thunderdance, etc.) as well, but you don't have to if you don't want to. Accepted!
Offensive dances, huh? Pepe already has some: Mincing Minuet, Blade Dance (unless you're confusing it with Pokémon's Swords Dance?), and Revelation Dance (Pepe shares this one with all his Oricorio). Plus, I'm planning to have him learn Fiery Dance (his version of a Firedance), Aqua Step, Petal Dance, and Jitterbug later on, all of which are offensive dances. Does it sound good?
@SAF That works. If it helps, Nemona is a paladin, and Juliana is a minstrel (playing guitar as her preferred instrument)
Oooh, noice. Just don't be surprised when Pepe starts dancing to Juliana's (and random bards') songs~
@SAF If you want to know some of her moveset: Offensive Chord of Fire Chord of Ice Chord of Thunder Chord of Earth Chord of Water Chord of Wind Chord of Stars Chord of Light Gaia's Minuet Ruby Bolero Ballad of the Wind Sparkling Aria Thunder Call Serenata of Stars Shining Hymn Swanna Song Rainbow Symphony (finisher) Lullaby Defensive Fight Song (boosts attack) Guardian's Hymn (boosts defense) Mystic Melody (boosts magical attack and defense) Song of the Beasts (boots speed) Silent Song (mutes enemy spellcasters) Annoying Song (sings an annoying song, making it hard for enemy spellcasters to concentrate) Lament (sings a sad song that demoralizes enemies, lowering their attack) Comical Tale (tells a story so funny, foes lower their guard) Trick Question (asks a question with more than one answer, forcing foes to stop and think) Support Epic Yarn (tells a long story that regenerates HP every turn) Mimic Bird (mimics a Fletchling to fool enemies) Song of the Rogue (increases evasion) Song of the Phoenix (revives fallen allies and heals them to full) Guitar is her main instrument, but she can sing and or use a tin whistle
Oooh, imagine how powerful those can get when coupled with Pepe's corresponding dances~ Speaking of old OC cameos, have some potential ones that I can think of: Spoiler: Old OC potential cameos Marissa and Alvin Dee, the Galarian redhead twins. Here, Marissa is an archer and Alvin is a bare-handed fighter (or, perhaps, white monk?) but they both do bardic stuff just for fun. I'd imagine Pepe's intro in this RP would be him dancing to their ongoing song in our starting town -- whatever it is. Fiorello Volta, a young man (his enby part hasn't fully explored yet at this point) whose family runs an Eevee daycare. I'd imagine Pepe's gonna meet this guy in Los Platos Pratolido and Fiore's family daycare will play a part on the dancer's first meeting with (and eventually acquiring) his Eevee. Nora and Kai Hansen, a pair of siblings hailing from what would be Cinnabar Island, Kanto today. Nora is a full-fledged bard who plays a fiddle with Ava the Eevee returning as her partner, while Kai is a swordsman with Blacky the shiny Umbreon as his partner (and yes, Kai's taking on Blacky's role in Evo Quest here). Still not sure how or when their cameos are gonna be tho. That, of course, is subject to change once we get there IC.
@SAF Okay--I will make the thread, and make this 1 on 1 for the moment. If we get any more takers, I can turn it into a group, and have the LSU meet up in wherever town we are.
Aight. For the record, my first IC post features Marissa and Alvin Dee with both of their Toxtricity, Rockman (Alvin's Amped one) and Blues (Marissa's Low Key one). The latter two are the only way I can think of to throw electric guitar and bass sounds in without involving isekai shenanigans.
@WavePearl Which Oricorio do you think would dance better to a mellow song: Pa'u or Sensu? Spoiler: Pa'u Pa'u Style Oricorio can be difficult to deal with due to its laid-back nature. It uses its dance to focus its mind and increase its psychic power. The dance is also said to be an offering of thanks to its guardian deity. It gets caught up in dancing that it sometimes ignores its Trainer's orders. In Paldea, Pa'u Style Oricorio is popular due to being used to maintain health. However, it is hard to find in said region. - excerpts from Bulbapedia Spoiler: Sensu Sensu Style Oricorio is a calm and collected Pokémon. Through its dance, it draws in nearby spirits and borrows their power to fight. Its dance reminds people who migrated from Kanto of their homeland. In Paldea, Sensu Style Oricorio is popular with adults due to its elegant, attractive dance. However, it is hard to find in said region. - excerpts from Bulbapedia
I prolly should dump a Paldea map here for my reference... Spoiler: Overall Spoiler: North Province Spoiler: South Province Spoiler: West Province Spoiler: East Province (Images source)
@SAF Be warned--this journey will feature a MUCH bigger Paldea with a lot more places from real Spain for inspiration.
Duly noted. Haven't played SV before, so I will need the maps to get a rough gist on which town is where like I did with Evo Quest's Galar/Ardamore, hence "for my reference".
