I'm just going to say right now that I hate Valerie's Gym. It's like Sabrina's, except I guess not as bad, but still not fun at all. I spent most of my time running around in circles, trying to find the right warp tile to take me to Valerie's room. Fortunately, she wasn't too hard to battle, except for her Mr Mime, who knocked out Xavier and I had to rely on Dominic's higher level to resist its Psychic attack. Maybe depositing my only Dark Type into the PC wasn't such a good idea...

Anyway, we got the badge and I explored the town a little bit. A Hex Maniac gave me a Gengarite, which served as a reminder that none of my Pokémon were going to have the ability to Mega Evolve. But then I got the brilliant idea to use the GTS to find my own Gengar. Why hadn't I considered this before? I... Don't have an answer for that.

Anyway, after searching through a series of trainers asking for Darkrais and Mews, I found one trainer willing to trade their Gengar... For a Haunter. Ok, weird, but I'm not complaining.

I went back into the marsh to catch myself a Haunter, who I called Spoopy and instantly traded for a Gengar. Unfortunately, I can't pronounce his name as it's in Korean but I love him nonetheless.

    SPECIES: Gengar
    NICKNAME: 고옹이
    LEVEL: 47

Unfortunately as you can see 고옹이 is about ten levels higher than the rest of my Pokémon, so I'm going to have to wait a while until I can train him. In the meantime, I'm going to have to decide who's going to get replaced. I'm thinking about swapping Monica for 고옹이 since a Gengar has higher stats and less weaknesses.

Right before I left the marsh, something weird happened. I ran into a horde of Skorupi... and there was a shiny. I don't know why, but for some reason, I'm suddenly encountering a whole lot of them. First in my White nuzlocke and now here. Ten years of playing Pokémon, and only now am I actually encountering some sparklies.

    SPECIES: Skorupi
    NICKNAME: Fabia
    LEVEL: 16

And then I went over to the Poké Ball factory to fight Team Flare. Kate should be evolving soon, which is the only reason why I haven't swapped her for my sparkling little Fabia. Also, Fabia is less than half everybody's level and it's going to take so much effort to train her. I'm not entirely sure what to do now that I have shinies. Do I trade them for more shinies? Do I keep them as tropies? Do I train them up to the max level and then keep them as trophies? I'm not used to having these things!

I've reached that part in the game when Sky Battles are near impossible. All the trainers now have at least one rock/electric/ice type that OHKOs Leonidas every time...

Oh well enough of that, Team Flare needs to be fought!

Then I wasted some more time riding around on a mamoswine. Am I the only one who loved doing this? It's so cute how the Pokémon disappears underneath all of the snow and then pops out when you step into the open...

Anyway, time to go to Anistar City, home of the giant sundial and psychic-type Gym! Kate finally evolved, so I decided I might as well go ahead and challenge her. But not before battling and beating Calem. Then I proceeded to attempt to train Dominic, only to have him knocked out every two turns but overall, the Gym wasn't actually too hard to beat.

Then afterwards, we got a call from Lysandre, telling us that he was going to murder everyone on Earth, which was a tad bit disappointing. I wanted to train my Pokémon up a few levels before challenging Team Flare one last time, but the strongest wild Pokémon I can find are Delibirds, which hardly give out any EXP, even to 고옹이, who has now replaced Monica.

So after some painful grinding to get each of my Pokémon up one level, I went down to Lumoise City to save the world/level grind. I now have more money than I know what to do with.

The only Pokémon I'm really using for this raid are Dominic, Leonidas and 고옹이. So to save time, I'm just going to train them and use them to fight most of the grunts so they'll be on par with Lysandre's team. They'll probably still be below his Pokémon in regards to levels, but there's not much more I can do to train them.

    TEAM:
    Penelope

    Xavier

    Dominic

    Kate

    Leonidas

    고옹이
