I suppose I'm nervous due to a little bit of both. My main concern is that I'll accidentally do something wrong and misrepresent someone's character, followed sortly by the concern that I might try to do something way too big. I have ideas for settings and stories that I'd love to RP but I also know that a lot of people prefer the random nature of it all. (I'm also not sure exactly how an RP 'ends'. That worries me too. Which is why I was planning on just making one big PMD world with a guild, then roleplay one mission at a time... it would make it more manageable and easier to stop if someone doesn't have much time. Does that make sense?)
Yeah, that makes sense to me. I don't have answers to all your questions, though I can answer some of them at least. As far as representing other players' characters, stick to just how you perceive them through your own character's eyes, rather than how the other person would actually act. For other people, don't try to directly move them, just try to observe them. (That's not the same as an IC suggestion that going to X place is a good idea. That is fine since it isn't directly moving the character.) As for big worlds, unless you are fairly familiar and experienced with how role-playing would work on a site, I would say start small and work your way up. The greatest, most interactive, and most expansive imaginary world will do little good if people don't use it very much, or if interest ends up getting lost. Usually when starting out, simpler is better - if you leave room for growth potential, it'll become something you may not have imagined it becoming, but still is pretty cool. The bottom line, I would believe, is first get acquainted with the people, before moving on to big things. Then you can figure out what sort of things people are looking for, and you can cater to that. Save the big ideas for when you're a bit more sure of things; that way they probably won't go to waste. ...Beyond that, you'd probably be better off someone who's role-played frequently here. I can only go off my own observations and common sense, and while that works, without more hands-on experience it only gets me so far.
Thank you for responding, that helps a lot. I think I'll investigate it some more today and see what I find!
Getting huge Dexter's Lab vibes from your name haha. Super cool. Welcome Deedee, nice to meet you! I understand being a bit nervous about some things, especially something as public as starting a roleplay. It was hard for me to open up and become extroverted enough on forums at first since I wasn't sure if I knew well enough how everything worked. But your fears are totally okay and I'm sure you'll feel comfortable enough with things to start something soon. No rush! See you. /o/
Heya, welcome to Lake Valor! I see that you're feeling a bit cautious but there's absolutely no need. You're new with roleplaying and that's totally fine! Just make sure that you're enjoying yourself above all else and take your time!
I think this might be the best place to say this - I'm sick atm and I have to seriously catch up with school, so I'll be offline for about a week give or take. Sorry for the inconvenience, I'll be back as soon as I can find the time.
