Raoden sat stunned at Viviane's outburst. Though her words were emotional, they carried an undeniable amount of truth to them. The swordsman had been lucky to go even this long without having to directly deal with the marauders he'd heard about. The bit about fusing with Pokémon was new; he'd heard rumors, but dismissed them as the delusions of panicked people. If those stories were in fact true, the task ahead now had a whole new level of danger.

As Raoden eyed Viviane, one thought prevailed above the rest: Who have you lost in this struggle?

"As much as we'd like to think otherwise, Lady Elodie, I don't think there's an easy way out of this that doesn't involve bloodshed." Raoden's words were sullen. He wasn't a killer, not like the Korathi he'd just denounced, but reality would eventually demand him to act otherwise. That conclusion made him uneasy. "You can't exactly reason with savages. Killing may be the easy way out."

None of us enjoy the prospect of killing, Virizion said for the first time in a while, its voice dampened as well. Unfortunately, you have little choice. Remember this: a few lives now spares many more later. Do what you must.

Sera blinked, perplexed. Bandits fusing with Pokémon? Then were the bandits she had encountered in the garden incredibly weak? Surely a criminal fused with a Pokémon would have some sort of extra power that would compel them to fight.

Each bandit had the ability Run Away, Cobalion explained. That's why I felt safe demonstrating sword techniques in front of them- they weren't very bold, and I figured it would be an easy practice lesson.

Sera sighed. It wasn't that she hadn't believed Viviane's monologue, but she'd secretly hoped it wasn't true. Sixteen was a young age to kill--and Sera wasn't quite sure she was ready for what was to come.

Don't worry, Cobalion reassured her. When the time comes, I'll be with you.

Gee, thanks, Sera thought back, turning to the rest of her companions.

"So what comes next?" she asked, trying to ignore the somber mood that hung over them like fog in the air.

"Nevermind that idea of a fun trip..." Skeiron thought as he noticed the haughty jerk of the other man's head.

"I told you so." Cresselia's voice echoed triumphantly.

"Yes, right away." he spoke, ignoring the moon-swan's sneer and climbed up the Ponyta. He skilfully took off towards the capital. He turned around and yelled. "Do try to keep up!" with a playful grin. "We've got little time to waste!"

Seamus couldn't help but bawk and stagger at the man's words. "H-hey, I don't know about you, but I ain't intendin' to make myself a criminal," He rebuked in a quiet voice. How could someone who was Chosen for such a heroic mission as theirs suggest something so cowardly and rash? "We should just keep talkin' with the guards! Eventually, they'll trust us and let us in. Ain't that right, boys?" He looked over to the guards, waiting for a hopeful response.

"Sir, that is neither here nor there," said the guardsman with a stern and annoyed expression. "I absolutely will not let you pass."

"Damn." grumbled Seamus. He fixed his gaze on Nix as though it were suddenly his fault that they weren't in the city.

Don't be hasty to judge, Seamus, reminded Manaphy.

"You kiddin' me? What this guy is suggestin' is criminal and cowardly!" he thought back gruffly.

Chosen come from all walks of life, Manaphy tried explaining. It was difficult, considering Seamus' narrow scope of the enormous world. You don't know anything about him or what he's like. For all you know, he could have been raised by thieves. He could have lived a life where he was down on his luck constantly. Give him a chance.

Seamus sighed and rubbed his head. "Okay, look. I dunno how I feel about sneakin' into the city," he whispered to Nix. "Maybe we could wait a little longer for some o' the others to show up, eh?"

"There are so many possibilities that can be found to stop this problem," Elodie thought, "yet we can't seem to open another other than the gates of death." She wanted her mission to not include any killing, although it cannot be avoided, apparently. The humans who have fused with Pokémon are still extant, and none of them can be creative enough to think of other ways other than killing. At least, that's what Elodie thinks.

"I'm sorry, I didn't think I mentioned that you will have to kill other humans, which apparently you are against." Diancie muttered, feeling that she had failed her Chosen. "It's okay, maybe I expected too much from this Chosen thing. Besides, I doubt there's anything we can do." She thought back. She wanted to learn how to train with magic, although she doesn't know who she should ask to teach her.

"Can someone, uh, help me how to use magic?" Elodie muttered, the volume of her voice slowly dropping. "I know a thing or two, but I don't know too much."

Nix went quiet as Seamus began talking to him. Apparently the fisherman didn't seem to agree with his plan, and had suggested... "Are we really going to just stand here until more arrive? That sounds a little... nonproductive, don't you think?" Nix thought.

"Well, if you feel like that is what needs to be done," Articuno replied softly. "I can tell that you are already annoyed by these two. But just remember that they haven't had the same experiences as you. They might not know-"

"Yes, I understand, Articuno." Nix quickly interrupted his Bonded Legend. "I don't need to be reminded of that now." Even as he was saying that, he started to feel a little shiver go down the back of his spine.

He dismissed the thought away, and turned back to Seamus. There was some truth in the man's words though. Surely there would be more Chosen that would come to them... hopefully...

He noticed that Seamus had relaxed some now, as if some stress went away. Nix nodded as the other man whispered in his ear, and had to force himself to say, "Well... I guess there wouldn't be any harm in waiting." He sighed, and added, "But I don't plan on standing out here all day."

"Better," Articuno praised. "You also need to learn to just trust your fellow Chosen, Nix. If you would only open up to them a little more, it would be much easier."

"It's hard to do that when considering the world that we now live in," Nix replied. He walked toward one of the closer trees near the gates, sitting down at its base, and pulled out his baton. He began twirling it in his hands again, most likely another bad habit that he would gain.

Raising an eyebrow as the other man rode off, Baiken sighed. "I get the feeling this won't be a quiet trip." He could sense Darkrai's amusement before he heard the dark chuckle. A small shiver ran down his spine as he heard the noise.

"Indeed, my chosen. Despite this the lunar one is not wrong, you must move fast if you are to complete this journey as quickly as possible" The Pitch-Black Pokémon stated as Baiken signaled for his Ponyta to begin moving to catch up with his companion.

"The what?" Baiken questioned, frowning when he was ignored. Seeing his companion ahead as he began to catch up, Baiken shouted out. "Slow down, we don't want to kill our steeds!"

"Lady Elodie, Lady Sera, I am not asking you to go out of your way to kill people. Not at first at least. But you must understand that so far nothing has worked to separate Pokémon and human once they have been fused. Believe me, the keep's magicians have tried." Viviane spoke slowly, trying to recompose herself after her earlier outburst. "But I am refusing to let you get hurt or even worse because you have delusions that you can save someone while he is trying to rip your head from your body. Promise me that you will not let the bandits risk your lives, those of the innocent, or that of your comrades. Fight for them. Fight for those that can be saved right now."

"You won't be able to keep your hands free of blood. You will bear the weight of their souls on yours. But until you have seen true combat and have killed, you won't be able to understand it to its truest extent. What I need you to do is understand what you have signed up for. That sometimes the line between good and evil, white and black, is not as clear cut as it seems." Viviane watched as the soldiers began breaking up the camp per her earlier orders and placed her bow on her back and her quiver next to it.

You are doing the right thing, little one. You have to break their illusions of glory and fame without pain now before something happens and they get broken beyond repair. Latios soothed his agitated and pained Chosen. They remind you of your sister, do they not? The same innocence that...

'That almost got her and mother killed and instead scarred her for life.' Viviane finished for her Legend, feeling the sting once again as she remembered the veiled purple eyes of her sister right after the attack. She turned to the other and spoke in a calm voice.

"We are leaving for Ros Meam right now. We will ride until we arrive there and tomorrow at high noon we ride to the Capital City. Mount the Ponyta's, they are docile enough that even an inexperienced rider couldn't be thrown off if they tried. Tomorrow you will be able to pick your own land mount from the stables at Ros Meam." She said as she mounted her own Ponyta and rode off to make sure her soldiers were ready.

Alex walked back to the other chosen after getting are fill on his supplies just in time to hear some of the nobles in the middle of a discussion about whether or not to kill the bandits that they would have to fight. Alex simply listened to the argument, as it was not his place to get involved in the dealing of nobles. Or at least, those from noble families that still kept their power, unlike his own. But as Lady Viviane ended the argument and told the others that they would be leaving, he couldn't hold back any longer.
"May I add something?" Alex asked, then continued without waiting for an answer. "Even if the bandits were still human, chances are we'd still be forced to kill them. I know that nobles such as yourselves are sheltered from the harsher aspects of our world, but their are only two ways to survive. Either you kill those that threaten you, or you gain the power and influence to have others do the killing for you. I know this is a harsh truth and I apologize if I am out of line in saying this, but it is the truth."

Mahsuri nodded as they ended up waiting at the city gates. Looking for something to do, her hand caressed a lone tambourine she had carried with her. A parting gift from Leila and Ozan. She figured to still honour her companions, she would play and dance, spreading more cheer despite the oncoming force of malice.

Standing up, she raised her tambourine, giving it a few shakes, she fell into step, a dance from her home village. Sometimes she didn't mind not getting any returns from her performances, just the joy in their faces was payment enough.

"Not all nobles, you can count my father out," Elodie said, riding her own Ponyta. "I don't know why, but he can be brutal at times," she added, remembering the scenes of her father killing bandits after the knights successfully captured them. "I doubt that you can even stop chaos. There is nothing permanent in this world," she said to the man wearing a grey tunic under a chain-mail.

"Believe me, we all tried to bring peace. But chaos still keeps appearing whenever peace is weakened," she blinked, making sure that her Ponyta was ready to walk before signaling it to do so, "and so, it is better to accept chaos in our world rather than trying to destroy it because we will always fail."

"What in the world are you saying, Elodie!?" Diancie exclaimed. It wasn't expecting an answer like that from her, and was expecting something else like trying to defend the nobles that they are bloodthirsty at times. "I'm only saying my opinions, Diancie," Elodie thought back, "we all have different views and opinions."

Diancie sighed, "You kind of worry me sometimes," Elodie did not pay attention to Diancie anymore, and instead decided to focus on her own Ponyta. "And sometimes," she sighed, "I just think that peace and chaos are both illusions created by our perception of the world."

"That's preposterous!" Diancie remarked. Again, Elodie paid no attention to the Pokémon until much later, "Anything is preposterous when we don't believe the things that people are saying."

Raoden simply listened to the further discussion. The mood it had taken had dulled his usual wit, and he had nothing substantial to contribute. Viviane's words were truthful, brutally so - as the knight-looking fellow reiterated. However, a course of action was finally decided upon, and Roaden was eager to move. He considered taking his Mudsdale instead of the suggested Ponyta, but his trusty steed would likely be too slow, so he mounted the frail-looking Pokémon and followed the group.

Raoden rolled his eyes when Lady Elodie started sounding philosophical. "You should strike up a conversation with that priest who left before we did," the swordsman told her, trying not to sound sarcastic. "He'd appreciate your musings." Much more than I do, he added mentally.

Seamus smiled. "Sounds like a plan then, Nix," he said with a confident grin as they waited. "And hey, while we've got a bit o' time here, why don't we..." He was about to suggest that they swap stories, but catching sight of Mahsuri's dances, he became suddenly entranced and chuckled. "Oh Mahsuri, I didn't know you were a dancer! How in the hell did you learn to that? I can't even stand on my toes like that for two seconds."

You don't want to talk more with Nix? Manaphy asked. He looked like he was just warming up.

"Eh, I could, but I think that can wait," Seamus responded internally, relaxing to the sound of the tambourine and the fluid movements of Mahsuri's body. "I've never seen a dancer perform, but I always heard they were gorgeous and graceful. And she is, sure as Arceus made little green apples, I say!"

Manaphy seemed to groan a bit, but did not respond to that. He had such interesting similes. "Hey Nix," Seamus said. "You ever seen a dancer like her perform?"

Nix smiled slightly as he watched Mahsuri begin to dance. It sort of reminded him of his mother... the way the woman moved, the sounds of her tambourine, and the overall feel... it brought back a lot of childhood memories. His smile fell when his mind arrived at that one specific memory, and what once felt warm went cold again.

He shivered slightly, sighing as he cleared his mind once again. "Even if that bothers you much, there is always your fellow Chosen to talk to. I'm sure Seamus would like to speak some more," Articuno suggested inside of the boy's head.

"No, I think I'll be fine..." Nix's voice trailed off as he heard Seamus ask something about dancers. He stood up slowly, leaning his back against the tree and replied, "Well, I have on a few occasions. My mother was one, in fact."

He started walking back towards the other two Chosen, finally deciding to take Articuno's advice. "Just asking a question in advance... which legendary are the two of you bonded with? I'm honestly a bit intrigued..." Nix crossed his arms slowly, placing his baton back on his waist.

Once the routine was finished, she rearranged herself as she tilted her head to Nix's question. She did seem a little flustered at the fact that she spontaneously started dancing just because she was bored.

"You dance beautifully, my Chosen." Suicune spoke in her head.

"Uhhh th-thanks, Suicune---" Her flustered state further increased by Suicune's compliment, and by accident she had blurted her thoughts aloud.

"Oh dear, I guess I can say now that I have bonded with Suicune. I can't say how Suicune will channel their power through me, but..." She detached a pair of chakrams placed together on her belt. Once she took them out and gave her wrists a good flex with one on each hand, blue round gems decorated the blades, the handle turned purple and white ribbons hung at the handle ends. "I suppose this is one way of it happening."

"I'd love to manifest myself in tbe flesh to validate your claim but sadly I cannot. By Arceus' decree we cannot do so." Suicune lamented. "We would be labeled as hunting prizes, or rather just shunned by humanity because of how we came about."

Sera swung her leg around a Ponyta, settling onto its back. She glanced around, looking at the other chosen. She was glad that they were all traveling to Ros Meam together, or she would've gotten lost on her own. Sera wondered if they would encounter any bandits along the way, and if she would have to kill them.

Aren't you forgetting something? Cobalion persisted, entering her thoughts.

Father? Sera thought back. He can manage himself just fine.

That's not what I meant. He'll be deeply plagued if you leave without telling him--I wouldn't be surprised if he sent a search party.

We don't have enough staff for a search party, Sera reminded her companion. She dug her heels into the sides of her Ponyta, and the blazing equestrian began a slow trot.

One of the priviledges that Sera indulged in from a young age was Ponyta riding lessons, something that was borderline "dangerous" in her father's eyes. Eric Alistar had raised Sera to be sheltered and an ideal noble woman, but riding Ponyta was both too reckless and an essential noble skill at the same time. Sera loved riding Ponyta, though her father made sure that she never had one to call her own. Quietly, she wondered if Lady Viviane might let her name one.

Viviane yawned as she was ushered out of her room by her handmaidens and stalked down the long corridors of the keep to get to the dining hall in time before her mother scolded her for being late once again. Her group had reached Ros Meam late in the night and Viviane had quickly make sure that her guests were in their assigned quarters before, she had retired herself. The Ponyta they had ridden on yesterday wouldn't be fit to make the way to the capital, so she would have to see which mounts were going to be available. She might even have to go to the Tower to grab her favorite mount.

She cleared her head as she heard one of the servants announce her presence to the occupants of the dining hall, and stepped inside to meet the eyes of her mother and brother. Her little sister was tucked into their mother's side, still not used to her new handicap. But Viviane could see her sister lift her head and try to look around. It broke her heart to see her normally vivacious sister, being reduced to this ghost of herself. Ignoring her brother who had started to talk to her, she first walked around the table and greeted her lady mother and her little sister. The blinding smile on her sister's face was enough to soothe Viviane's fears.

It looked like she can still catch the difference between shadows and light. Your little sister won't be completely helpless in the future. Latios remarked thoughtfully. Viviane could only nod, her throat feeling constricted and dry.

"I missed you, Vi." Her sister had opened her arms and Viviane bend over to embrace her little sister. Their mother smiled at them while shushing her only son. Viviane broke the hug quickly and turned to her brother.

"Let me break my fast and after that, you may accompany me to father's study." She spoke clearly and didn't wait for a reply before sitting down and eating quickly. When she was done, Viviane told her mother about the four nobles that had come with her to the keep and that they were her personal guests, instructing that after they had breakfast, the nobles were to go to the stables and pick one of the Ponyta, Zebrstrika, Mudsdale, Gogoat, or even one of the Sawsbuck. Then she allowed her brother to drag her away. The walk to the study was silent, her brother fuming but refusing to speak to her. Viviane couldn't care less about Richard's temper tantrums and just waited until she was allowed into the study.

Her father's deep voice came through the thick wooden door and the siblings walked through the doorway. He was surprised to see his daughter back so soon and with nary a scratch to be seen on her body. He signaled to her to start her report and so she did.

"The evacuation of the people went well. We managed to get about 95% of them to move to safer places, including the area surrounding Ros Meam. My regiment has also managed to stave off the bandit attacks in our lands, I suspect that we won't have much trouble for the next week or so. But two days ago something happened that I would have never expected." Viviane reported to her father, who impatiently gestured her to continue. "The Chosen are back, Father. And I was Chosen by our family Guardian."

"Lord Latios himself choose you? Now I know you are jesting, sister. There is no way the Chosen would be back, and it is even more impossible that you would be chosen by Lord Latios over me." Richard laughed loudly as she just glared at him. Their father just looked thoughtfully at Viviane. The laughing grated on her nerves and for the first time in her life, Viviane snapped. The laughing stopped quickly when a razor sharp edge was placed on his throat, the edge slightly cutting in his skin. The fan had turned into its awakened form and Lord Lane let out a slight gasp at the undeniable proof his daughter now held in her hand.

A smirk rose onto Baikens face as he caught sight of the approaching walls of the capital city. Glancing over at his traveling companion, he pondered on making conversation but before he got the chance he caught sight of the gates to the city.

'Huh, guess we were closer than I thought' Baiken thought to himself, his gaze picking up the sight of three individuals outside the gate. 'What are they doing? They're not guards, nor do they look like merchants so why aren't they entering the city?' He questioned as his eyes narrowed in thought before suddenly the tell-tale presence of Darkrai appeared in his mind.

These are other chosen it seems. Not an impressive group, tch. Darkrai scoffed as he sized up the trio, receiving an amused snort from Baiken as they approached.

Seamus had pulled out a long, thin knife and began sharpening it with a pocket whet stone. "That's real neat, Mahsuri!" he said as he looked at her ornate chakrams. That's a shame, too, said Manaphy, an evident pout in its lips. I put so much work into those weapons. The least you could do is show it off. From afar though, Manaphy felt a strong beat in its heart and felt the beginning of a resonance. Strangers approaching, Seamus. More of our kind.

    "More?"
Seamus wondered. He looked to the east and laughed when he saw two men riding atop Ponytas coming just over the hill. "Ha! Well would ya look at that?" he exclaimed, waving his arms as a sort of signal. "Hey y'all! Come over here! Join that gang!"

Manaphy was abashed, appalled by Seamus. Ooh, its colleagues and friends would laugh if they knew it had chosen this bombastic rascal as its champion.

(I was actually just waiting for everyone else...)

Elodie was sitting on her bed, thinking about what she should do. She had left her servants who will tell her father about deserting them, which would obviously make him angry. He'd send a search party and if she was found, she'd probably be locked up inside her room forever. She sighed, "I just hope they don't find me somehow." Of course, Diancie heard Elodie's voice in her head. "Well, you'll have to face the consequences then," Diancie said, giggling a bit.

Elodie was annoyed by this. "You'd rather have me locked up, unable to do my duty as a Chosen then?" she thought back. Diancie's giggle became louder, much to the annoyance of Elodie. "You and I are kind of alike you know," Diancie said, "back in my domain, I'd usually run away from all of my Carbink servants." Elodie's eyes widened before she smiled, "Maybe that's the reason why you suddenly chose me. Because we're so alike!"

"Maybe. Maybe not. But what matters is that we're together now," Diancie replied.
