The roar of the crowd. The chopping of wind as the Bullheads, accompanying a larger airship, land on the ground with their turbines slowing down in speed afterward. The shouts of parents waving their children away, tearful goodbyes as they realize how they won't see their children for a year minimum, maybe more.

    Slate hated it all.

Hanging back from the crowd, Slate stared disdainfully at his fellow students-to-be, analyzing them as a whole and finding himself mostly unimpressed. "Tch," he scoffed in his mind "They're just children trying to play hero, I wonder how many of them actually realize what they're signing up for." A slap on his back broke him out of his thoughts, causing him to glance behind him with a cold glare.

"Lighten up, kid!" A jovial voice responded to his glare with exuberance. The owner of the voice was a large man, larger than anyone Slate has ever seen in his life, covered entirely in silver armour with a giant hammer attached to his back and a large grin on his face. Despite how bright he was in looks, Slate himself had seen how intimidating he could be when he's serious. Their first conversation attested to that.

"Hm, why are you here?" Slate asked quietly, his tone nonchalant hiding his actual curiosity in the man's answer. Laughing at the question, the behemoth of a man placed his hand on Slates shoulder, ignoring the scathing glare he got for it.

"Now, now. You really didn't think I'd let you go without seeing you off?" Tightening his grip, the mans gaze narrowed on the teen, "Besides. I have to make sure you don't run off."

Growling, Slate brushed the hand from his shoulder and walked towards the airship, his tail unfurling from his waist as a sign of his irritation, but as he got closer it drooped as he faced the very real possibility of having to deal with other teenagers, something he wasn't used too. Skirting through the crowd, keeping his head ducked and tail returned to acting like a belt, Slate avoided bringing attention to himself as he quickly boarded the airship and prepared himself for a long flight.

"Tell Verde and Rosso to behave and that I will write when I get a chance. And tell dad that I love him too when he gets out of his workshop." A rose haired girl was hugging an older woman while waiting for the Bullheads to land, so she could finally board the airships to Beacon Academy. "I am going to miss all of you. It won't be the same."

"We know, Rosa, dear." Lilla Quarzo held her daughter tight, before letting her go and nudging her to the ships.

"Do your best and make us proud, you hear me? I don't want to hear from Professor Ozpin that you blew up your dorms by accident, or that you nicked someone else's weapon again to figure out how it works." Here her daughter started protesting, but Lilla just raised her eyebrow and Rose's protest died down quickly. "Keep an eye on your friends as well. Now it is time to go. Don't keep your friends waiting, they are already done with their goodbyes."

Lilla's eyes teared up as she saw her eldest child run off with her friends to the airship, laughing and joking around, onward to a new adventure, where she had no part to play in. The foursome would watch over each other, though, that was one thing she was certain off.

Rose waved to her mother as she raced to the ships, followed on the foot by her friends from her previous academy, Spark. As the group walked up the planks, they turned around one more time to wave at their assorted parents before going into the hull.

"We are finally going to Beacon! I have been waiting for this for, well, years!" One of Rose's friends squealed to the small group and they all had to laugh as they walked inside the ship. The girl was now twirling around, being mindful of the other people that were coming in. "Oh, Tiger, Smoke, Rose, is this all too good to be true, all accepted in the same huntsmen academy, all in the same year?"

"I know, Citrine. We are going to be the best huntsmen and huntresses to walk through the doors of Beacon. And we will do it all together as a team." Tiger slung his arm over his sister's shoulder and his brown eyes were lit up in happiness. Rose just shook her head good-naturedly in response.

"You know it is possible that we won't be on the same team, or even partners, right, Tiger, Citrine?" The last member of the party, Smoke, spoke up and they all nodded in response. They had heard that line a million times from their previous professors and they knew that the chances of them being a team were slim. Apparently, this was one of the bigger intakes in Beacon's years of being open.

"Let's mingle with the other students then. Try to see if we can make some new friends. Four years is a long time to spend with people you barely know." Rose suggested and the others thought it was a good idea. With a wry smile, Rose waved goodbye to her oldest friends before taking up a position in sight of the door. Who knew what kind of characters would come unto the airship? She had seen some faunus already, but they definitely weren't as plentiful as the normal humans. She would be spending the next four years with these people if they made it that long, and Rose was hellbent on those years being nice.

"Mum, Dad, you're here too!" A teal haired girl looked into the eyes of water-like eyes like her own, as she embraced the two figures.

"We figured we gave you a surprise before you leave for Beacon." The mother hugged her daughter tight as she smoothed her hair. "Also, Taura. I know you made a difficult choice in enrolling in this academy, but we want you to know, we have faith in you and your abilities."

Taura looked for a fragment of time unsure, but her head was ruffled by her father. "Take it easy, okay? Just go with the flow."

"Thank you, Mum...Dad..." Taura murmured into the hug. Once she let go, she spotted her older cousin Kirie who looked up at the ships with a small feeling of nostalgia.

"It feels weird to see it again after so many years." Turning back to her cousin, she continued. "But I know you'll be fine." Kirie embraced her cousin tightly as well.

Upon waving them goodbye, Taura walked up into the airship wistfully, carefully rubbing away a tear threatening to spill as she looked around. Different kinds of people were no novelty to her, but the feeling that she was alone with these strangers made it more intimidating.

Nevertheless, she kept up a polite smile, should anyone come to contact with her. She stood close to the window, leaning on the wall.

"Tau~~you're here too!!" A familiar voice cried as she was jumped on by a dark skinned blonde.

"Chryseis?! Oh gosh, it's so good to see you!" The two embraced as they began making small talk. Even though they were from different regions, they often met during their parents' business trips and had became close.

Though the conversation was but brief, as Chryseis found more people she recognised and bounded towards them, leaving Taura alone for now. While she didn't mind, she wasn't exactly big on reaching out to people...at least not yet.

”Mom stop I can’t breathe.” Hunter protested as Midnight hugged her son for what felt like the hundredth time. His parents or older sister had come to see him off.

“I know but I’m going miss you Hunter, is hard to believe you’re ready to enter Beacon.” His mother let go of him. “Just try to get along with people you end up on team with, okay?”

“Now dear, I’m sure he’ll be fine, we’ve trained him well.” The man next to Midnight said as he gave Hunter a quick hug. “Make Viridis family, son.”

“Yeah yeah, mom and dad.” The teen rolled his eyes, eager to board one of the ships he wanted to get away from his family and getting into an academy was the perfect way. He looked up at the ships almost feeling it was too good to be true that he finally had the chance. His thoughts were interrupted when his sister Jade playfully punched him on the shoulder.

“Now don’t cause too much trouble at Beacon, and mind your surroundings when using your semblance. I don’t wanna hear anything about you blowing your team names off a cliff okay?” Jade said teasingly as she stood next to him looking at the ships.

“You’re never gonna let me live that one down are you?” He sighed as he looked at his sister with a slightly annoyed look.

“Nope!” Jade laughed, he knew Hunter was aware of his semblances capabilities but that didn’t stop her from doing what older siblings normally did.

The family said one final goodbye before Hunter boarded the ship almost sighing with relieve as he looked around at what would be his fellow students. “I guess I’ll check out of other on the ship.” He thought as he looked around almost surprised by how many there were.

He found a place underneath a window and sat up against the wall as he glance around the ship at all the other teens that’d already boarded, if everything went like it should some of them would end up being his future team mates. But for now he just enjoyed getting away from his family something he’d never really been able to due to getting trained at home rather than going to a primary combat school, which had also given him little time to mingle with others his own age that was not family.

"Hmm..." Vail thought to himself a bit as he arrived at the scene. He watched as groups of teens said their goodbyes to friends and family, almost scoffing at their behavior. He twitched his fox ears slightly in agitation, making sure to move away from an oncoming crowd.

"Everyone seems so happy," the teen murmured to himself, watching a couple of Bullheads begin to arrive. "Do they even know what's in store for them?" He started to play around with his hands, attempting to pass the time a little more. "And even more people have someone to bid them farewell..." He closed his eyes, a little frustrated at himself for the fact that he didn't have anyone there for him.

In order to pass the time a little bit more, he began eavesdropping on some of the other students' conversations, only then realizing how many there were. "The more to get to know, I guess." Vail coughed, feeling a little nervous about the fact that he would at some point have to socialize with other students.

After making another count on the supplies he had with him, the Bullheads began to arrive, picking up more and more students. Vail decided to get on one of them, making sure to avoid most of the students getting on board. He separated himself from the wave of students, standing next to one of the less crowded windows.

He gave a small smile, and said, "Well, at least the view is nice. Better than home, at least..." He sighed, closing his eyes while waiting for the aircraft to take off. He would at least try to get sleep, since he was still a bit tired from the past few days.

Staring out the window of the airship blankly, Slate scowled beneath his face mask as he felt someone come up beside him at the window as the airship and the Bullheads began to lift into the air. Deciding to ignore the person's presence hoping they'll leave, he sighed as they began to speak.

"So. Excited to be starting Beacon?" A male voice asked from beside him, the source of the voice is a rather large male wearing what would look like civilian clothing. Overall he seemed rather... unintimidating. In response to the question, Slate grunted causing the teen to laugh. "Yeah me too, it's what I've been dreaming about since I was a kid! You know what I mean?"

"No." Slate flatly responded, his gaze showing nothing but disinterest in the conversation. Suddenly the stranger leaned forward, pressing his palm into the side of the airship and denting it causing a gleam of interest to enter Slates eyes.

"Name's Merlot." The teen introduced himself, it was only then Slate took notice of his blazing red hair and the crimson accents on his clothing. Scoffing in amusement, Slate tilted his head.

"Fitting, my name is Slate." With a grin, Merlot laughed once more and forcefully shook Slate's hand, causing him to wince. "Strong grip you've got there." Slate stated.

"Uh, yeah. Semblance, sorry can't control it." Merlot responded sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. "Anyway, I have to go. Sister demanded I took pictures of the trip, see ya around! Who knows, we may be partners?" With that Merlot ran off leaving Slate to his thoughts.

"Partners hm? I admit it's not a bad thought." Slate thought to himself with a hum before shaking the thought away. "Tch, what am I saying? Partners will only hold me back." Sighing, Slate's gaze roamed around the ship taking in the people surrounding him, taking in those who seemed the most interesting and threatening to him.

"Is that.. purple hair?" Slate thought incredulously, his eyebrow raised at the sight before the second one joined it as he sighted a white-haired faunus further away, "Alright, perhaps there are some... interesting people about. Probably still in over their heads though."

When the Bullheads finally took off, Rosa walked to the windows, trying in vain to spot her mother one last time before they were too small to make any more. Lilla must have left when she made it onto the ship. The teen let out a sigh as she realized that the adventure was just beginning. Standing next to a teal haired girl, Rosa watched as the landscape changed and she could no longer spot the landing platform and most students went their own way, leaving the windows as they started to socialize with each other. Rosa could spot Citrine and Tiger talking to a girl with bright blue hair and Smoke was already whispering with a guy while showing his weapon off.

"Idiot. You shouldn't show off your weapon at this moment in time. That is asking for trouble." She muttered loudly, but just shook her head fondly at him. He had always been absurdly proud of his weapon and its abilities. She leaned back against the wall looking at all the other students with a critical eye. Most of them had their weapons in storage mode, so she couldn't look at them but she could try to figure out what was most likely. She looked at the girl next to her from the corner of her eye and it was really obvious what her weapons were going to be: twin fans. The girl certainly didn't look like she was from Vale, her outfit being more exotic than the standard fare here.

"So, your first time to Beacon as well?" She tried to start a conversation.

Taura watched the landscape become smaller and smaller. While she was used to it from the view of ships, from an airship, it was different altogether, and it scared her slightly. She looked around for anyone she found interesting. Chryseis was nowhere in her field of vision, and she didn't really want to have to find her through this crowd. Her eyes caught a raven haired scarfed student talking to a burgundy haired student in a distance. Wincing inwardly at the damage the latter caused to the airship wall, she quickly looked away.

However, her unease seemed to be alleviated when she heard a pink haired girl next to her, who muttered something about showing off weapons. Anything to stave off the current unease, she supposed, especially when said girl had started to initiate a conversation with her.

"Ehh? Uhh yes, yes it is! I'm kind of nervous about joining actually, ahahah---you as well?" Before she could stop herself from babbling, she noticed the outfit the other was wearing. This girl looked beautifully poised and yet she seems to have a lot of experience in the battlefield, with armour plates here and there. She looked like she was made for battle, which intimidated her.

"Not really, I am more excited than nervous at the moment. I mean this is what I trained for at Spark Academy and with my family. Not to mention, I have my best friends from Spark with me, so I feel rather reassured." Rosa spoke evenly, trying not to show the little jitters she did have. Her hand automatically went to the purple quartz necklace that hung around her neck. She had gotten it from her mother on her 17th birthday. It was the mark of the next leader of the Quarzo family apparently.

"I am Rosa Quarzo, the heiress from the Vale branch of the Quarzo family. It is nice to meet you." Rosa bowed her head lightly in greeting to the teal-haired girl. Now looking closer at the outfit the other girl was wearing, Rosa confirmed that her earlier suspicions were correct. This girl was not from Vale and looking at the fact she was so nervous, she probably wasn't from Vaccuo either. That left Mistral and Atlas.

"So judging from your clothes, you are not from Vale. I am assuming Mistral or the surroundings. I think I saw clothes like that when we were in Mistral a few years ago visiting my cousins that attended Haven for the Vytal Festival." Rosa shared, trying to find some common ground.

Deciding to explore the ship during their journey, never know when he'd require a quick exit, Slate was unable to stop himself from listening in to the conversations around him. Despite most being useless drabble, there was one that caught his attention. The source of the conversation was the purple haired teen from before, although now that he was closer he was able to notice it was more pink than purple. Beside her stood a teal haired teen, a human he noted after a quick examination for faunus traits.

"Quarzo you say? The family that always spawns 'great' huntresses?" Slate questioned, his tone turning sarcastic as he spoke the word 'great'. Blinking, he quickly bowed his head in embarrassment, "Apologies, I didn't mean to eavesdrop. My name is Slate, and you two are?" He asked, one out of principle and the other due to curiosity.

Taura was just about to talk about the Vytal festival when the black masked stranger from before had approached them. That earlier sarcastic tone was enough for her to get a bad impression, but his apology that came after immediately dissolved it. With a gentle smile, she bowed her head in Slate and Rosa’s general directions.

“My name is Taura Kawashima. As I was saying, yes, I am from Kuchinashi, Mistral. My family is one of the sponsors for the Vytal festival tournament. I only attended once to watch when my cousin took part...” Something about her tone was uneasy when she brought up the tournament, but she quickly tried to cover up. “A-anyways. It’s a pleasure to meet you both, Slate and Rosa—”

“It is my pleasure to meet you, Taura. I hope we can be friends.” Rosa smiled softly at the girl before turning to the boy that had interrupted them. Her voice took up a bit of a haughty tone even if he did apologize.

“You heard correctly. As I told Taura before, my name is Rosa Quarzo, from the Vale Branch, which coincidently is also the main branch of the family.” She introduced herself again. “While it is true that we have produced quite a noticable amount of huntresses that know which end of their weapon is the dangerous one, we do not spawn huntresses however, we train them from the ground up and help them to be the best they can be. Much like the Viridis family actually, only they use some kind of mentoring system, I think.”

She titled her head to the side and observed the boy now standing in front of her and Taura. No, his name was Slate, she reminded herself. She couldn’t really place him, as she had been able to place Taura. It didn’t matter really.

“But enough about me and my family, you nervous to be attending Beacon, Slate?”

Hunter had taken to people watching to see what kind of people his future fellow students would be. There were people talking to each other which seemed to be what the majority did, not like there was much else to do. A few were showing off their weapons which made Hunter roll his eyes, it was a little too early to show off weapons in his opinion.

I suppose I better get off the floor before someone falls over me, he could easily imagine someone just walking and tripping over his legs. Stretching he decided to walk around a bit to check his future fellow students a bit more.

Looking around while listening to the other teens banter he moved close to a group with a teal haired girl, a pink haired and a boy with black hair, he overheard the boy mention the Quarzo family, Hunter had heard about that family from his parents and sister, something about them producing great huntresses if he remembered correct. He didn’t think further about it as he passed them until the pink haired girl mentioned the Viridis family and he froze, and she apparently knew about their mentor system. While his father had said they were known Hunter had just taken it for his old man blowing hot air like he had a tendency to do.

Hunter sighed, and here he’d thought he could get away from his family but it looks like it wasn’t that easy. Turning around to take a look at the group before approaching them he spoke “I didn’t think I would heard that name here.” Since one of the girls knew about his family they would most likely also be able to identify members of it due to a prominent feature all huntsmen and huntresses shared, facial tattoos which he had as well.

Vail watched as a majority of the students around began to socialize, showing off weapons, talking about their past life, and the potential assignment of teams. He scoffed inwardly, commenting to himself that it would be too early to have ideas for teams and such. Looking out of the window behind him, he realized that the Bullhead was passing over some sort of town. He smiled a little, enjoying the new scenery around him.

"Maybe... it would help a little to try and be more social," He thought to himself, with much indignation. Vail twitched his fox ears again, noticing that a group of students nearby that caught his attention. A pink haired girl, another one with teal hair, and two others boys who had black and green hair respectively. The four seemed... a little more familiar to him.

"Fine," He muttered to himself, walking towards the group. He leaned against the wall closest to the four students, making sure to keep some distance between him and them. He flattened his ears to his head, attempting to try and hide his Faunus traits a little more. "Not really sure how people around here feel about Faunus," he commented in his mind.

He decided to eavesdrop a little on the conversation, hearing about some of the different families of Vale. Quarzo, Viridis... both of them he had heard from home, though he didn't feel too familiar with the bunch. Vail closed his eyes, since he didn't feel like he needed to introduce himself to the four.

Scoffing at the question, Slate gave Rose a flat stare. "Nervous? Hardly, I would rather not be here." Scowling as he thought back to the circumstances that lead him here, "As far I am concerned, this will be temporary." He stated in certainty. After all, he was a thief, not some hero. His ambitions were selfish in nature and he was content with it, no need to complicate it with some sort of hero mentality.

Hearing the approach of another student-to-be, Slate glanced over to the source of the footsteps and was unable to hide his curiosity as he gazed at the tattoos on his face. It was when the other male spoke did Slate come out of his thoughts. "You speak as if that name means something to you," Slate half asked half stated, even if he knew what the answer would be.

"Seeing as those triangles on his face show that he is from the Viridis family, I suppose the name would mean something to him. If that is good or bad, that remains to be seen," Rosa answered while cocking her head to the side to study the newcomer. She had not expected to see any member of the Viridis family this year. She hadn't known that there was someone of her age that would be coming to Beacon.

"My mom had some missions with some Viridis people, so I know a little bit, but not really that much. My mom is Lilla Quarzo, by the way. She is quite famous for her usage of unusual dust types and the fact she is a master of the naginata." Rosa told the others. She wasn't sure how far the reputation of her own family had spread, and she would rather talk about things that were well known already than to tell new information.

"My dad makes custom weapons for huntsmen and huntresses, as well as just some generic tools, but he and I made my weapon together." She divulged to the group, knowing that this was mostly useless information.

Taura had a strong feeling the atmosphere was going to be tense, until she spotted the approach of a green haired teen with triangular tattoos and a silver haired fox faunus somewhere around them.

One of them was the Viridis family and Rosa said she was from the Quarzo family...she hadn't exactly heard of them, and was nervous to admit it.

"Your family makes weapons too? That's so cool!" Taura suddenly blurted out with a twinkle in her eyes. She wasn't sure if her outburst was out of ignorance or pure interest, but it was definitely something worth looking out for. Upon realising her outburst, she took a glance at the others, and immediately clammed up. "Uhhh----S-sorry---got a little carried away."

Vail chuckled a little as he listened in on the group's conversation. He hadn't caught onto their names that much, so he ended up calling them by their appearance. The teal haired girl seemed to have a short burst of excitement when the pink haired girl mentioned weapons, and the other two boys didn't seem to talk as much. "Hmph, typical," he mumbled.

As he watched out of another window, the Bullhead was flying over another part of Vale; apparently they were above a forest. The Faunus smiled a bit, enjoying the new bits of scenery outside his window.

He looked back over to the group, slowly feeling the need to inch closer. Vail wanted to try and be a little more social, though he didn't fully trust the group just yet. He inched closer, finally able to understand a little bit more of the conversation.

The four were mainly chatting about the two different families in Vale, to which Vail commented, "Yeah, I've heard of the Quarzo and Viridis families before. Not much, but enough to remember." His eyes widened when he realized he spoke out loud, already noticing how nervous he was getting just by standing there. Vail didn't say something else, however, since he felt too stiff to say anything.

"Not so much my family, as just my dad and me. Even if my brother is getting really interested in the trade." Rosa laughed, trying to reassure her new friend. "Most of us are better are using the weapons than they are at maintaining them, so I have some experience at repairing huntress' weapons. You wouldn't believe how bad some weapons look after a mission with Ringo. She can be so careless."

Rosa relaxed a bit more as she talked to the new group that she met such a short while ago. Then she heard a new voice, it was the silver/white haired faunus that had been standing next to the window that was the closest to the group for some time. She thought about his words and just shrugged. He probably wasn't from Vale. At least that, was the most logical explanation.

"We are known, but not world famous or something. Mostly is it just "OH, you are from that family! Can you give me some tips?"" She mimicked a starstruck girl and placed a hand on her forehead like she was going to faint. She had seen that enough while she had been on training missions with her family.

"Bunch of freaking idiots mostly." She rolled her purple eyes, before crossing her arms and huffing loudly. She was actually a bit pleased that her new friends didn't fawn over her family's reputation.

“Let’s just say I’d hope to not hear it at all.” Hunter replied to the black haired teen, despite being part of the Viridis he showed little interest in his own family.

Hunter felt the Quarzo girl’s gaze and met it as she studied him “Yeah is kinda hard to hide when you got it tattooed on your face, is like having a nametag permanently etched onto it.” At least no one seemed to make a big deal out of it which Hunter appreciated, maybe his father had still exaggerated about how known their family was. He couldn’t say he’d heard about the girl’s mother though so she’d probably not been working with his nearest relatives “Haven’t heard of her, so she was probably not working with any from my nearest family.” Hunter shrug, his family was far from small so it made sense he’d not heard about her.

He heard the silver haired fox faunus that’d been hanging out at the window near them mentioned he’d heard about the families, Hunter’s gaze scanned the boy, to him it looked like he’d never intended to speak out loud judging by how nervous he looked.
