Howdy! Welcome to another installment of Rebuild it!, where we take the trash of the Pokémon meta and try to make it into something worthwhile. This week, we take on boo boo keys, better known as Klefki. Now Klefki is an interesting one. It isn't BAD at what it does per say, but it does have some severe shortcomings. While it can set hazards and throw status around like no one's business, it can't fight to save its life. It has approximately zero offensive presence. Combine that with lackluster bulk, and you've got a little dynamo who will paralyze you aaaaannnnnddddd not much else. So, what can we do to unlock this set of keys' potential? Smogon link
Ah Klefki hasn’t been good since the swagger clause came into play. Thats the only reason Klefki isn’t OU. Simply an indirect nerf.
Boosts to HP and Sp. Atk would probably help. Along with more speed possibly. Learning Moonblast could also help.
I think Klefki could use an additional ability to make it more versatile. Perhaps Infiltrator(attacker's moves bypass and ignore Substitute, Reflect, Light Screen, Safeguard, Mist, and Aurora Veil) would be fitting, since keys can unlock doors and you can infiltrate? It kinda fits lol With infiltrator, opponents will have to be more cautious, since now substitute can't protect against Klefki's plethora of status inflicting moves. It makes it even more so difficult because they will also have to predict whether it has prankster as well. Klefki learns recycle(can reuse sitrus or the berries that heal 50% of HP at 25% hp or less), but still has no access to any healing moves outside of draining kiss and rest. I think if it was able to learn Wish, it could play a better support role and stay alive better. Stat wise, I don't think Klefki needs more offense since it lacks a good offensive movepool anyways. Foul play usues the opponent's attack stat in calculation so it can use that to its advantage. I'd boost it's bulk so it can do it's role better.
