...no, they are not. In a recent interview, Masuda was very clear on the status of the Let's Go! titles: Despite the success of the Let's Go! titles, there has been some backlash around the internet - with some even going so far as to metabomb the titles - for their changed gameplay mechanics. With the reveal from Masuda that they are NOT spinoffs as many may have thought, how do you feel about the games now? Would you welcome these mechanics in other Pokémon titles, such as the promised "traditional" Pokémon title to come next year?
Didn't we know that already? Anyway, a thing I'd like would be to bring wild battles back and maybe have the Go catching mechanic when you try to catch the mon. Not really having endless possible grind (always need balls) is stressing me a bit.
I'm not sure if it was ever actually clarified absolutely prior to this, actually...well, I personally got a lot of very mixed messages, from both official and fan sources who couldn't quite seem to decide where in the spectrum the games fit. I feel that a lot of people online have been decrying them as spinoffs because they really do not like the more "casual" game mechanics or the links the game has to Pokémon Go, suggesting a dramatic shift in the audience and the focus. People don't like change.
This is an interesting topic. Let's Go has a lot of components of a main game, but lacks a ton of previous Pokémon. This begs the question: what will the compatibility be like with the other Gen 8 games? Eevee and Pikachu have new moves, and there are several features that are very different from normal mainstream games. I'm curious to see how that will all pan out.
It is interesting how these are actually mainstream instead of a side river like others had thought. But in truth, I kind of hope they bring back what we once had. The grind here is too weird, and the game itself is too easy from what I've seen. Bring in some harder enemies, bring back the wild battle mechanic, and hopefully keep the Pokémon walking with you mechanic, like back in SSHG. That would be the dream Pokémon game in my mind. And with the current graphics, it'd be welcome even more so. That is, in my opinion.
I have mixed feelings about Let's Go. I kind of enjoyed being able to see the Pokémon, it makes things more... realistic-ish? My main thing was I actually loved the wild Pokémon battles in previous games, and taking it away had to be one of the major downsides to it from my perspective. Another was the fact it was strictly Gen 1 Pokémon (and the Alolan forms), which was... annoying, because really? Allow Alolan forms, but other gen Pokémon can't be added? Also, how easy it is; at least in SM/USUM you can easily turn off Exp. Share and do a Nuzlocke if you want some difficulty, but this was a whole new level. If they brought back actual Poke-battles, expanded the Pokédex a bit, and made things an actual challenge, then I would be more than happy with the style Let's Go has. However, seeing how that hasn't really happened since B2W2, I think hopes are too high, sadly. (Still holding out for the DPP remakes, however!)
I really can't see them as core games but I guess we'll have 2 core series running for now instead of only the classic one we've had since the very beginning which I guess won't be such a bad thing.
I feel like Let's Go is like a Pokémon GO influenced remake of Yellow. Which doesn't exactly make it a spin off... more so of a remake. People wouldn't call Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire a spin off even if they altered a lot of the core mechanics, so why with Let's Go too?
I always considered it a core series game, even if it’s completely different from the others. It was an... interesting, to say the least, change to how wild battles work and such. If I’m being totally honest, I’ve heard many more complaints than I have compliments about the mechanics. So I think it would be smart to leave them as exclusive features to these games (or any future Let’s Go games) and return to wild battles and such in the 2019 games.
