This is my main project when it comes to writing a story, everything else that you've seen by me was just small mini projects, but this is the main one that I've so far spent years just trying to make. And before you ask, yes this is where I got my username inspiration from. So, wish me luck and enjoy!

Edit: Constructive criticism and suggestions are welcome

I nuzzled with my mate. In front of us was a nest with two eggs in it, surrounding them was different types of grass to keep the nest’s shape and to hold the heat to keep the eggs warm.

“We’re going to have two wonderful hatchlings,” I whispered in my mate’s ear.
“I know, and they’re going to have two wonderful parents to raise them,” she replied softly.
Then there was a slight cracking sound coming from the nest. At first, I thought that I had imagined it until it continued and cracks began to show from both eggs. I saw Thundercloud move to help them and I put my talons over hers and shook my head. I felt a wave of disappointment and worry, but she left them alone. It wasn’t long before the first one of them poked through the hard shell of the egg and the other one followed. The first one was a red and gold colored male dragon and the other one was a purple and black female dragon. Thundercloud and I started carefully cleaning them off with some cloth and removed the eggshells from the nest. Some of the oils remained after cleaning them, making them appear to be shiny.
“What should we name them?” asked Thundercloud as she continued cleaning them.
I thought about it for a moment and I looked at the two hatchlings. I noticed that the she-dragon’s eyes were as bright as the moon with those dark-colored scales.
“How about we make the she-dragon’s name Moon?”
She looked at the purple and black hatchling.
“I think that is a wonderful name for her, but what about the male?”
“I think you should name him.”
    “I would be honored.”
Her eyes start to wander around before landing onto the gold and red hatchling for a moment.
“How about we name him Laserdragon?”
    “Why Laserdragon?”
“His gold and the red color makes me think of a laser that the electric mages can make.”
“If it makes you happy, Thundercloud,” I said approvingly as I licked her cheek.
There was a knock on the door and I went and opened it.
    “Hello Omegafox,” said the newcomer.
I immediately recognize his voice to be my longtime friend and co-worker, Seawater.
“Hey, Seawater. Why don’t you come in and see my two hatchlings?”
“They’ve hatched already! Well, let’s see them,” replied Seawater excitedly as he zoomed past me.
He looked at the two hatchlings with energy that I’ve rarely ever seen from Seawater. I couldn’t help but smile as he interacted with the young pair.
“Omegafox, this little one looks just like you. What did you name them?” asked Seawater as he held Laserdragon.
I went up to Thundercloud’s side and replied, “We decided to name the gold and red one, Laserdragon, and the other one’s name is Moon.”
    “They’re wonderful names.”
Laserdragon yawned and started to go to sleep in Seawater’s arms. Seawater laughed.
“I think that this little one needs to be put to bed,” said Seawater with amusement as he handed Laserdragon to Thundercloud, who started to wrap him in soft blankets.
Moon went up to Thundercloud and made a small noise that sounded like a squeak. Thundercloud laid Laserdragon into a nest and picked up Moon to wrap her in some blankets.
“I think that you’ve got two fine children, Omegafox,” said Seawater as he watched the two hatchlings sleep. “But how do you plan to balance the roles of being a Commander of the Khanian military and being their father?”
“I’ll find a way Seawater, after all, right now we are in a time of peace. I’m sure that I’ll be able to balance the two roles,” I replied.
“What about when you are off on duty?”
“It would be best if I remain as a commander during those days since I would be looking after their safety along with serving this kingdom. Wouldn’t you do the same, if you have children of your own?”
“I probably would, Omegafox. I’ll tell my Father that you’re going to spend a couple of weeks with your newly hatched children and that you’ll return by the end of the month. Does that sound good to you?”
    “Yes, and thank you, Seawater.”
“It’s the least that I can do for a friend,” said Seawater as he walked out the door.
I went back and laid beside Thundercloud watching our two children sleep like they didn’t have a care in the world, and their peacefulness seemed to wave over me as I tiredly closed my eyes.

I opened my eyes to a world that was nearly complete darkness, apart from a few fires scattered over the landscape. In front of me was an equally black female wyvern with six burning yet beautiful red eyes sitting on a throne of black and purple. I felt my skin crawl at the mere sight of her.
“Omegafox,” she boomed. “I know that you have just been blessed by the hatching of your two children, so I have an offer for you. If you serve me as you would serve your queen, then I will bless your children with abilities that will make them so powerful that they would be able to destroy most armies alone.”
“Why would I want to serve you, Dark Star?” I growled.
“Omegafox, don’t you want what is best for your children as well as Khania? This will be one way to do what is best for the country as well as the family. It would be a shame if you were to turn down this type of offer.”

Maybe she’s right, I thought to myself. I would still be serving my country and these powers sound like they would help my children protect themselves when I’m not able to, but this is still the Dark Star that I’m talking to.
“Dark Star,” I started with a short pause. “Deals like this stay strong through trust, and, to tell you the truth, I don’t completely trust you. I must ask for time to think about this and I wish for you to show me that I can trust you.”
“Very well, Omegafox, you’ll get your time to think and I’ll show you a sign that I’m to be trusted in the near future. I’ll be back within the next six months, surely that is enough time for you to make your decision.”
    “That should be enough time.”
I then awoke with a start.
“It was just a dream,” I said to myself softly.
I repeated this phrase a couple of times until I was calm enough to relax. I turned my head to look at Thundercloud sleeping peacefully next to Laserdragon and Moon with her wing covering them. I couldn’t help but smile. They hatched and they’re alive right now. With this thought in mind, I went back to sleep.

A week flew by before I even knew that it had. I looked at my two children that were playing with each other in the clearing. They were about as close as I remember me and Moonshadow when we were their age.
“Laserdragon, Moon don’t be so rough with each other!” yelled Thundercloud from the garden that we keep at the front of our house.
There seemed to be a hint of amusement in her voice, but Laserdragon and Moon kept on with whatever game their playing. I saw Thundercloud get up from her weed digging and I walked up to her.
“Thundercloud, as long as they’re not spilling any blood or destroying anything, then let them have their fun. They’re kids and let them act like kids as long as they can. They’ll grow up and be the ones taking care of us before we know it.”
“Are you sure that they’re not hurting each other? They look like….”
“They look like they’re having a good time. Don’t be so worried about them or you’ll worry yourself to death. They’ll be fine, you’ll see.”
I turned to watch the two little bundles of energy wrestle with one another. I longed to have the energy that they had, I’d join them if I did. Laserdragon soon managed to pin Moon to the ground, and Moon just wiggled herself out of his grip and darted off with her brother close behind her. Watching them made me think of the dream that I had.
What am I going to do? I thought to myself.
The Dark Star is going to want an answer in a couple of months. I thought for a few minutes. Khania is going to need strong warriors to defend itself from Arainia, especially with the border raids that have been happening lately, and the fact that wars between Arainia and Khania have been on and off since the creation of both countries. But if Moon and Laserdragon both had powers that made them able to destroy whole armies, then Arainia would probably never attack Khania again for as long as Moon and Laserdragon lived. But the thought of serving a creature that is known to be evil set a bitter taste in my mouth. I shook the idea out of my head. I still don’t know what to do, I’ll have to look to someone for some advice.

The road back to the capital was long, but I enjoyed that time away from everything.

I looked back at my two guards that were wearing shiny grey and red armor. Starshower and Tigerslash were their names and Omegafox had handpicked them to be my royal guard about five years ago. I smiled at the memories

“Prince Seawater,” said Tigerslash. “Do you want to rest while I fix up something?”

“I think that I can go a while longer,” I said with a pause. “Don’t tell me that you are getting tired already?”

“No!” growled Tigerslash. “I just don’t want you collapsing from exhaustion, that’s all.”

“He’s just saying that to make himself sound caring, but he just wants to eat,” said Starshower with a hint of amusement.

“You don’t have to tell Prince Seawater everything about me,” Tigerslash hissed. “But I won’t say no to some food.”

I laughed and reached into his pouch and pulled out some beef jerky.

“It may be really dry, tough, and don’t taste that good, but it should at least satisfy your hunger for a while,” I said as I handed Tigerslash the bit of meat.

“Thank you, Your Highness,” said Tigerslash gratefully.

“You wouldn’t be any use if you got yourself killed due to hunger, would you?” I replied with slight sarcasm.

“Of course,” mumbled Tigerslash between bites.

    Starshower rolled his eyes.

“How do you deal with dragons like us?” Starshower asked me.

Cause you’re nicer than the alternative, I thought.

By nightfall, we were just another day’s journey until we reached the capital. The night had an eerie calm. I couldn’t get myself comfortable enough to sleep. I was nervous about the inevitable talk with my father.

We haven’t been close, especially since Mother died about fifteen years ago. I had very few memories of Mother, most of them were of her smiling and holding me under her wings. Unlike my mother and father, I was a dragon-like most Khanians, and they were both, however, wyverns. Most of Khanian royalty had been wyverns and for me, the eldest prince of Khania, to be a dragon was almost a disgrace. The next closest family that was a wyvern was Lightningrod, who was a distant cousin and had also been recently adopted by my father. My thoughts on the matter were mixed, on one hand, it meant that if anything happened to me and father there would be a clear heir, but on the other hand, all my father would have to do is get rid of me and there would be a wyvern as the next king.

The thought of Lightningrod being king disgusted me, and I quickly shook the thought away.

“Mother,” I said softly. “I wish that you were here.”

I looked up at Starshower and Tigerslash. Starshower sat on watch while Tigerslash slept near him. I grinned and laid my head down to try to sleep.

I opened my eyes to a world filled with light. Somehow, I felt safe.

The buildings that I was surrounded by looked like they were made of gold and were perfectly polished. The street that I stood on didn’t have any holes on its surface. And the sky didn’t have a single cloud in sight. It was almost…perfect.

“Where am I?” I wondered out loud.

A small breeze came through the street and a wyvern that has the same color of blue as me flew around before landing in front of me. Her silver eyes were familiar to me.

    “Hello, Seawater,” the wyvern greeted.

My eyes widened. “Mother?” She was younger than I remembered her being.

Mother laughed. “You don’t quite recall me looking well, do you? I’ve missed you so much, my child.”

Mother came closer and licked my cheek.

I fought back the tears. “Mother, it’s been so long. How are you able to do this?” I asked.

“Dragon Star has granted me permission to visit you in your dreams now, so I can be with you,” Mother said with a grin. “I wish that you and your father could get along though. He wasn’t always so concerned about you being a dragon.”

“Well, now he is, and I now can’t do anything to please him,” I snapped.

Mother’s eyes darkened with disappointment. “That’s not true. He has been pleased with your military career and your friendship with Omegafox.”

“Neither of those would have happened if he didn’t take me under his wing and personally trained me,” I pointed out.

I went up and put my head on her shoulder. Her familiar sweet scent calmed me.

“I love you,” Mother said quietly in my ear. “And I always will. I’m sorry that I had to leave you when I did.”

That was when the tears came. I felt streams fall down my face. I didn’t want to leave at this moment. I didn’t want to leave my mother.

Then her scent started to fade. I looked up at Mother, who was disappearing.

“Mother, please don’t leave me!” I pleaded.

Mother shook her head. “I have to leave you now, but I promise that I’ll come and visit you as often as Dragon Star will permit.”

My vision darkened until everything was black.

When I woke up, the sun was starting to rise. Tigerslash and Starshower were already up and making a quick breakfast.

“Did you sleep well, Price Seawater?” asked Tigerslash. “Also I managed to catch something for us to eat before moving out, if you want some.”

“Yeah, but I don’t want much. Maybe a bite or two, though,” I replied even though I felt more tired than when I went to sleep.

Tigerslash nodded. Starshower dug his claws into the creature’s remains and ripped out a piece. Tigerslash went up to Starshower, took the meat, and handed it to me. The meat was nearly black on the surface and felt dry to touch. (I haven’t decided what type of creature Tigerslash caught)

I ate the meat, even though my stomach felt like it had rocks in it. It felt like tree bark inside my mouth and tasted about the same. But at least it was something.

I got to my feet and took my water pouch and washed my face with some of the water.

“Are you two ready to go?” I asked once I was finished.

“Ready when you are, Your Highness,” replied Starshower.

    I smiled. “Then let’s go.”

(Shoot, I said that I was going to post one by the end of August and it's September so I'll just post what I have. Sorry everyone!)
Edit (3-09-2020): Revising everything but I'm still working on this new version of this chapter

Moon and I ran as quietly as we could across the meadow where our home was at and went into the trees that surrounded it. It wasn’t long before we came into another clearing with the military academy in the center of it.

“Come on Laserdragon, it won’t be long before they start the dueling practice,” hissed Moon as she darted toward the school.

I raced after her and went into the bushes that surrounded the dueling area. It wasn’t long before the group of trainees appeared and formed a circle around their instructor.

“Please remember that in a couple of days is your final examination for the military. If you pass this time, then when you can join the military, you could get a high ranking position or maybe even get invited to join the Racor units.”

As he said that he stared at two of the students for a minute before continuing.

“So try your best in these last few duels where you can make mistakes, learn from those mistakes, and then apply them to the examination. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, and if not, then pick a partner and duel.”

The trainees quickly went into pairs and started making movements around each other that made my head spin. I looked over towards Moon, and her eyes were wide with excitement.

“Laserdragon, I want to be able to do all of this one day,” she whispered in my ear.

“I thought that they only take males at this school,” I replied softly.

After I said that, I knew that I had made a mistake because Moon shot me a look that said that she was going to kill me later. I chose not to say anything after that. I’ll just apologize later. After their practice was over and they all left for their magic practice, I and Moon carefully left the way that we had come. Moon barely spoke to on our way home, usually, she would go on about how she wanted to be like them.

I wasn’t planning on arguing with her, not that I wasn’t afraid to argue with my sister, I was just afraid that she would use my words and, somehow, beat me with it. We continued playing, trying to do some of the complex movement of the trainees, but we more often than not just ended up on our backs and laughed uncontrollably.

Then we both heard movement and we both hid behind some nearby bushes. I placed my wing over Moon’s body.

The noise came closer and our father came into view. He looked around for a second before laying his eyes where we were hiding. He smiled.

“You two can come out, your mother is worried about you and we just caught our supper,” Father said with a pause. “You two didn’t go over to the academy again, did you?”

Me and Moon, with our heads down, nodded slowly. Father chuckled softly and bent his neck down to our level.

“You two could have just asked and I would have taken both of you,” Father said firmly. “In any case, let’s go home before we start testing your mother’s patience.”

(Ugh, I terrible about doing stuff on time, but here's what I have for chapter 4)
Edit (3-09-2020): Same as Chapter 3
Laserdragon ran up to my front right leg and started digging his claws into it. The newborn claws were sharper than I expected. I looked down at him and I saw that he had a playful sparkle in his eyes as he met my gaze. Thankfully, he wasn’t drawing any blood.

“Alright, Laserdragon,” I said as I raised my front right paw with Laserdragon on it. “Let go of my leg, please.”

Laserdragon slowly lost his grip on my leg and fell to the ground. He let out an annoyed growl as he sat back up. There was an excited squeak and Moon suddenly appeared and jumped onto her brother’s back. Laserdragon buckled under Moon’s weight and they fell to the ground. Laserdragon wiggled out of Moon’s grasp and scurried off with his sister racing behind him.

    Thundercloud landed next to me.

“Those two are a lively bunch, aren’t they?” Thundercloud said with a hint of amusement in her voice.

“They are just acting like normal children,” I replied as I nuzzled Thundercloud’s cheek. “In a couple of weeks, I hope that we can take them into the forest and let them watch the students of Asboro Military School train.”

“I don’t think that they should be exposed to such things yet,” Thundercloud growled. “But I’m getting the impression that you want them to follow in your footsteps.”

“I would like them to be aware that the school is there,” I replied. “And I would like them to know how to defend themselves.”

Thundercloud smiled and said, “You are always one step ahead of everything, aren’t you?”

“I guess it comes with being a military general,” I answered.

Moon burst into view with her brother close behind her. Moon gave a small screech as she twirled around and tackled Laserdragon. He yelped in surprise and fell backwards. The siblings crashed onto the ground.

I imagined the two as warriors with Dark Star’s powers. From a being as powerful as a star, there was no telling what my children will be able to do, but there was no telling what I’d have to do in order for them to get said powers. I guess I’d have to find that out whenever Dark Star wanted to talk to him again.

“Omegafox,” Thundercloud spoke, snapping me out of my thoughts. “Do you think that you could do something for me?”

“Sure,” I instinctively agreed. “What is it?”

“Could you go to Fog Reach and get some supplies?” My mate asked.

“That is nearly a day’s journey one way,” I stated to her.

“I know, but there are herbs that I could put into our catches that would be good for our children,” She explained.

“Alright, what exactly would I be looking for?” I asked.

“Just some small green leaves with small blue berries with them, I believe they are called blueberries.”

“I don’t think that berries are considered to be herbs, but whatever. I’ll get you the berries.”

“I love you, dear,” Thundercloud said softly as she licked my cheek.

“I love you too, sweetheart,” I replied. “But if I don’t leave soon, then I won’t be able to get into town before dark.”

(I have to admit that I'm not 100% satisfied with this but I'm posting it anyway)
I stood petrified in front of the door that led to my Father’s throne room. I needed to give him the good news of Omegafox’s two newborn hatchlings, but my body felt heavy and my mind screamed for me to not enter.

“You know, I could simply go in there and give him the message for you,” offered Starshower.

“No, you don’t have to. I just need a minute,” I replied as I took another deep breath. “Just stay out here, I’ll be back in a minute.”

Finally, I stepped closer to the door and opened it, revealing a large, well-lit, white and yellow room. There was a red carpet that led from the door to the throne itself, where Father sat with three pairs of guards standing around him. He was a wyvern that was wearing purple armor, which covered most of his light-blue scales. The armor itself had various precious gems dotting its surface, while the helmet was made of gold and gems.

I heard the doors behind me close and there was a short silence as me and Father stared at each other. After a minute, Father broke the silence.

“I’m glad to see that you have finally decided to come and visit me,” growled Father as he stood up and approached me.

“Father, I came to tell you that General Omegafox’s two eggs have just hatched him a son and a daughter,” I said as I continued forward. “With your permission, he would like to spend the next couple of weeks with them before returning to the military.”

“When you next see him, give him my congratulations and of course let him spend time with his children. The military doesn’t immediately need him, as long as we have someone like you around, Seawater. Though I wish that you would visit me more often than you have been,” replied Father with a hint of disappointment.

I narrowed my eyes at my father. “You know that I also have duties outside of these walls in the military and that job takes more of my time than you’ll know cause you choose to stay here, safe within these walls with over one hundred guards here to protect you.”

“It is my job to see to it that this country runs and to be the figurehead of the people…”

“Then you are showing the other countries that we choose to be cowards!” I snapped. “You hide behind walls and armies and spout about claiming that you are the one thing that keeps this country together when all you do is sit on your throne! I choose to go out there and be with the soldiers that choose to sacrifice their lives for us!”

Father then stomped the floor with his right-wing. “Seawater, don’t talk to me like that!” he snapped. “You have been blessed with a family and mentors that both love and care for you and I won’t tolerate that mouth of yours!”

There was an eerie silence in the room. I fought to not show any fear or surprise at Father’s outburst.

Father drew in a deep breath before speaking again, “I know that you don’t like me, especially after what happened to your mother, but I hope that one day that you would at least learn to respect me.”

The mere mention of my mother built pressure on my chest. I forced the pressure down so that it wouldn’t be evident in my voice when I spoke again, “I thought that we agreed to never speak of her again or even breathe of the events that happened.”

“I know,” agreed Father. “But we need to move on from that and I hope that you can forgive my oversight back then.”

“I know that one day I will forgive you,” I said with a pause. “But it definitely won’t be today.”

Father looked at me in silence. I turned around and stormed out of the room.

I forced the doors open and slammed them shut. When I turned around, I saw that both Starshower and Tigerslash had wide eyes.

“You two heard what was said in there, didn’t you?” I growled with irritation.

    Both of them nodded.

“Let’s not discuss it any further than that.”
