How often do you nickname your Pokémon? Do you give them people names or random names? I like nicknaming my Pokémon and I do it often. In my recent playthroughs of Sun and Emerald, I nicknamed every Pokémon I caught. I give them both people and random names (usually random ones). In my Pokémon collection here, you can see some of the weird and random nicknames I think of.
I nickname most of my Pokémon. Usually I give them names that relate to what their based off of. For example, my Absol that I caught in OmegaRuby and still use sometimes is named Bai Ze, from a creature in Chinese folklore that Absol is based off of. Though sometimes I go for puns, like my Decidueye from Sun, Owlbert.
I LOVE nicknaming my Pokémon. I'm the type of person who tries to nickname every Pokémon I catch. It makes me more attached to the Pokémon I catch and meet along my journey. That being said my naming convention is... odd to say the least. Sometimes I try my best to think of a deep and meaningful nickname to the Pokémon I catch. (Like a Male Rosarade I once had named Florante since its a male Spanish-esque name which reminds me of Zorro and the Mask Rosarades have. It also sounds like Flora/Floral which makes it perfect for a Grass Type) While other times its just dumb and silly nicknames (Like my Meltan here which I just named NUT because it has a nut (genius I know))
I LOVE nicknaming Pokémon. When I started out playing as a kid, nicknaming was completely optional to me. Nowadays, I nickname everything, even if the Pokémon will just end up sitting in my PC. Nicknaming themes are popular for my playthroughs. Recent playthroughs I've had Avatar: The Last Airbender names, Kitchen Utensils/Appliances, Harry Potter, Lake Valor Moderator Team, and more. The themes really help me to remember the team and put them back together after they've eventually been scrambled in my massive Pokebank. My favorite playthrough has to be the one I gave my team super normal names. I believe there was Jessica, Tom, and Phillip, but I can't remember the rest.
I've been nicknaming my Pokémon ever since Nuzlockes started to become popular (which was a very long time ago, if I recall). Nowadays, even if I'm not doing the challenge, I tend to nickname all of my Pokémon any chance I get. Sometimes the names are random, but most of the time each game I play through has a naming theme that goes with it so I'm not spending too much time deciding on what to name this newly-caught critter (French names, Hawaiian names, food names, etc.).
I love nicknaming my Pokémon! I typically tend to use names from other games (Zelda the Gardevoir, Saria the Bulbasaur, Epona the Ponyta, Diddy the Infernape, Tails the Floatzel etc.), Disney character names (Ariel the Vaporeon, Nala the Pyroar, etc.), American cartoon character names (one of the most memorable one of those was Garfield the Snorlax), and foreign words that suited the Pokémon (Luce the Ampharos, Rouge the Talonflame, Kala the Tsareena, Alegria the Oricorio, etc)
Every game, I name them after characters from a certain series. I think the most recent one was Future Card Buddyfight.
I usually nickname Pokémon if I can come up with a name that I think sounds cool or can suit them, like wildfire the charmander, or count bucula the bibarel.
I usually give them random names, no names, joke names, or, in some cases, particularly Lake Valor, I name most of them Lenny or other variations of Lenny
I love now nicknaming my mons, and pretty much all of my 'important' Pokémon have nicknames. In fact I put a lot of effort into finding cool (or funny) names for them.
I really don't nickname my mons unless I'm doing a nuzlocke or let's play. I'm pretty bad at naming mons.
i name all my Pokémon, but the more i catch, the more nonsensical they get. i completed the national dex in omega ruby, for example, but that means all my names are things like "STICKY DON'T TOUCH", "aeiou", and "dunkus"
Always!! It feels wrong not to nickname my buddies. Especially since, with amie and refresh, they feel a lot like virtual pets instead of like videogame constructs. Depending on the game, sometimes I even go by theme!! My last theme was flowers, but my next is going to be dessert themed. That said, when I really run out of name ideas I just pull up name randomizers and go ham
I always give a nickname to those Pokémon I consider important (such as the main story team or the competitive ones). That's the main reason why it bothers me so much that you can't give one to events or even to those you manually transfered
For all Pokémon that are a part of my team, I like to give them names! Usually they're just whatever I think suits them (which is a healthy mix of names like "Charlie" and "Popcorn" right next to each other), though some playthroughs I like to go with themes! My most recent playthrough of Ultra Moon has been in Spanish since I was practicing for a class, and the names were all based on spanish names (for humans)!
If I intend to train my Pokémon, I name it. I don't usually give a lot of thought to the names, I just name them the first thing that pops into my head. Mostly they're human names, like Ezra or Elena, and other times they're more like pet names, like Zen or Star.
I do it often but that's mainly because I do nuzlocke runs most of the time, doing casual playthrough I usually only nickname pokémon if is the team of one of my OCs.
Unless I'm trying to breed a Pokémon and I end up with a bunch so I don't want to take the time, I nickname all of the Pokémon I get, even if I don't plan on using them. The names I use vary from actual names to objects or just gibberish that I think sounds good. Unless it's a Pokémon I plan to use, I don't usually put too much effort into nicknames, which makes Nuzlockes fun since I usually end up with Pokémon I don't normally use and I can think of new names. Once I give a Pokémon a name I like, I pretty much only use that name for that species of Pokémon whenever I use it.
All the time. I got into the habit after attempting some nuzlockes. It eventually just stuck. I try to nickname my Pokémon normal things, but sometimes the memery comes through and I end up naming them something ridiculous.
