Heart Gold and Soul Silver were challenging and fun. They can be a bit grindy but it like that the agent doesn’t just hand you everything on a silver platter like in the newer additions. It might just be nostalgia talking but I like the old 16 bit look of the games as opposed to the 3D stuff. Walking with your Pokémon is also great and make you feel more of a connection to your mon. Hence why I love Feraligatr so much and why it holds a special place in my heart. I also like naming the rival as it adds more of a personal thing to the game. Making it a polar opposite of your character’s name or making it something funny. These games were overall very good and will always be my favorites.
Even though I did play fire red first, I was borrowing the game, and so I count Diamond as my first gen. As such the sinnoh region holds a solid place in my heart. HG/SS only increased the love for gen 4 with following Pokémon and pokethelon.
Gen 5 truly got me hooked on the franchise. The more interesting story, excellent region, and fantastic music make me look back on these games fondly.
Yeah, definitely Gen 5. I can't sing its praises enough with all its amazingness. Story, characters, worldbuilding, music, mons, gameplay, graphics (vibrant, personality-filled animations), ugh everything is just so amazing I can't even Sure the competitive meta hasn't aged well because weather wars and sleep mechanics sucking but other than that and a couple other nitpicks, it's the perfect gen.
As much as I LOVE Hoenn and the Gen 1 remakes in Gen 3 (actually just finished a LeafGreen Nuzlocke not too long ago), I have to go with Gen 4. It's where I started and where my love for Pokémon really stems from. Plus, Sinnoh is a region that I've always adored, particularly in Platinum. The music was wonderful, the new Pokémon were cool and the new evolutions were sweet as well. Sinnoh boy all the way.
I’m biased but I gotta say Gen 6. Mega Evos, the graphics and Pokémon Amie were just fun. Also, I think this belongs in the Pokémon General/3DS/Other section instead of the Q&A, sorry!
I'm having trouble deciding between Gen 4 and Gen 5, but I think I'll go with Gen 5. I loved BW despite the many complaints about it, and B2W2 is probably one of my favorites.
I've always had trouble deciding between gen 4 and 5 -- I grew up with both; Gen 4 introduced me to my first game and was a big part of my childhood, whilst gen 5 was the generation that introduced me to the fandom, my first taste of online fandom. But I picked gen 5, mostly because above all what stood out in this generation to this day has always been the story, the characters, and how much I love the Tepig line.
I haven't played the majority of the games (I've only played up to Gen 3), but I'm going to say that gen 4 is my favorite because it was that series of anime that got me back into Pokémon.. I love the Sinnoh Pokémon, and I would love to play Diamond and Pearl someday, just to say that I have.
I think ill have to go with gen 4. I loved diamond and pearl and heartgold soulsilver! I thought both of these games were pretty awesome and while the engine ran a little slow, I still have so many fond memories with these games!
gen 3 i grew up with it and it's gen 3 unova games are bad including pokepark jk pokepark's pretty cool guys why am i still typing and why did i happen to get a pansear here
Gen 4 is my favorite mostly for nostalgia, but I love the music of the gen 4 games. (Not so much hgss, haven’t played those yet). The smooth jazzy overall theme of the Sinnoh games is just so soothing to me.
Gen 3!!! Everything was great, from the anime to the spinoff games~! Spoiler: What I like about Gen 3: -Hoenn Region overall is beautiful! -Treecko & Duskull evolution line -Better Ash and him being an Aura Guardian -Misty returns yay! -Max and May make great group chemistry -One of only 2 generations where starters are distributed among the protagonists -Pokémon Contests & the Battle Frontier -Gameboy best console fight me! -and finally, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon is relesed for first time~!
Gen 2 is my favorite, it have a special place in my heart, no not because it was my first. I know there are better gens out there but I have so many good memories playing Gold, Silver and Crystal which is why is my favorite.
Gen 4. Yeah, I'm nostalgic for these games. They were the first games I've ever played and they got me into Pokémon. The music is great and I really love the aesthetics and the underground stuff (Even though I had no friends to play with at the time).
