It's the time of the year, folks! So, have you already decorated your house for Christmas? Still cleaning up before you start doing so (like me)? How do you decorate, Christmas tree, lights, etc?
Normally my family decorates a real tree every year, but we skipped it this time out of a lack of interest. This time the gifts are under a tall “Christmas Lamp" that just so happens to already be in the living room.
We’ve always put up a tree, maybe a little garland and those window jelly things too. But we haven’t gotten ours up yet this year
My family used to set up a big real fir tree in the living room. Over the last like 10 years or so my dad scaled back a bit and we started doing festive miniature villages which I honestly prefer. They let us flex some creative muscles more and makes less of a mess overall. My dad's village was pretty massive but since he passed we decided to set up little vignette villages on platters which is much more manageable since we are not licensed electricians. I will dig up my pictures from my PC when I get home
My family loves to set up and decorate trees, we use fake ones since they are cheaper and less messy. we have three regular sized ones, a tall thin one, plus a smattering of smaller trees. Beyond that we have some garland and lights, as well as stockings. We rarely decorate outside, since it's cold and kind of a pain, but I love seeing what other people do.
My parents are adamant about real trees, so we have one of those. My sisters decorated outside without me and didn’t tell me they were doing it, so I didn’t help decorate. I decorated my room with the same lame little decorations of 2 mini stockings that I hang on the window.
My family used to go out and cut down our own Christmas tree every year. I still have wonderful memories of going out with the family on really cold days to search out a tree that we thought would be a good tree. We would decorate it with the same decorations we had every year. I don't actually ever remember buying anything for a tree except replacement bulbs, we always had what we wanted. When the rest of my family moved out of my parents, they just bought a fake tree as it was less a hassle to deal with. As for the exterior of the house, well we're not exactly set up yet. Then again, its not Christmas yet.
Growing up, my family always had three fake Christmas trees (a big one, a medium one, and a smaller one). We did this because my family has a lot of kids, so it allowed us to all feel like we could contribute not just in the physical decorating, but in the color scheme planning. This year we just have the two trees, but fortunately, we only had the two kids who had interest in decorating, so it worked out. The big tree this year has a peacock theme (green, blue, and purple lights and ornaments, dark blue garland, and a couple of peacocky looking decorations). The other tree, which my little sister decorated, is dinosaur themed. It just had the yellow lights and gold ornaments, nothing too special, but then she started putting our dinosaur toys in the tree. My mom thought it was so much fun, so she then went and got these packages of small plastic dinosaurs which she glued to strands of beads, making dinosaur garland to hang on the tree.
