Currently sitting here thinking of writing an anime series about a bunch of creatures resembling Japanese kanji (nope, not kidding). Looking for someone who speaks fluent Japanese. Anyone here fluent?
I don't know how much help it will be, but if you don't find a real-life expert, you can probably do some two-stop searching online. For instance, I searched for "Japanese word for bird" as a random subject, and the second search result told me it's 鳥. After that, I put that kanji into Wiktionary and was led to https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/鳥#Kanji for what might be some other surrounding details that might help me know that I'm using the word for "bird" instead of specifically the word for "microwaved poultry" or something silly like that. I've also seen a bunch of smartphone apps that claim to teach Kanji, but I have no idea how legitimate any of them are. I give my trust to Wiktionary pretty easily, even if it's hard to get around there.
Definitely helpful. You can also check jisho.org, a Japanese dictionary. Best of luck, kanjis are fun. I myself plan to learn Japanese, but procrastination wins, sadly.
