@Laserdragon14 @SAF @ChocoChicken @122 Generation @Kecleon352 (Are we ready to move out towards the lair?)
"Good to meet you, Kelvane. I'm Atelier, and sure, I suppose we shouldn't use your allergies like that..." Atelier replied. (Let's get going)
"Whoops, sorry," Blacky apologized to Kelvane. He didn't even think his random muttering earlier would be heard to anyone outside the room, after all. (Okay, let's go.)
@Laserdragon14 @SAF @ChocoChicken @122 Generation @Kecleon352 When the festival ended a few weeks later, a band of adventurers ventured forth into the nearby forest. All they had to go on was Aine's research saying the Earth Dragon King's lair was in a forest. The question was, which forest?
Remembering Aine's explanation from when the group first met several weeks ago, Blacky muttered in response to Xuehua's question, "The Glorious Wilds... right?"
@SAF (Thanks for the reminder!) Aine sighed as the group trudged along the road. "The Glorious Wilds are farther than I anticipated..."
Starlight gazed around at the wildlife around them, making mental notes on the plant life specifically. “Does a dragon king usually stay near their lairs?” Wondered Starlight our loud.
@Laserdragon14 "Normally, they do." Aine explained. "But the Dragon Kings will go to any lengths to find suitable prey."
Even Atelier took a moment to glance at his surroundings. Would the lair be undefended? He doubted that, given how many minions were supposed to be waiting. But as Lady Aine pointed out, since they had a while to go, Atelier took out his novel and began to read. "Now, where was I?" he said to himself.
@122 Generation (That's fair--the novel could just include worldbuilding flavor, but nothing important...)
Kelvane huffed through the scarf wrapped around his face at the weight of his pack, which seemed twice the size than when he had attended the festival several weeks beforehand. Suffice to say, when his parents heard what had happened, they freaked out, and attempted to ensure that their son wouldn't cause another scene like that. On top of that, they had to ensure that he had enough provisions to allow him to survive the upcoming trials he had to face. Kelvane grunted again, shifting the weight of the sack to a more comfortable position. It seemed like they made sure he had packed enough for everyone involved to have a comfortable amount of rations, despite the fact that everyone most assuredly packed for themselves just fine. At this point, he felt more like the company pack-Mudbray than a fellow adventurer, and this did not do any favors for his attitude or sense of self-value.
@Laserdragon14 @SAF the Nekomancer @ChocoChicken @122 Generation @Shadow Sneak Before long, the group found themselves inside the Glorious Wilds. The next question was finding where in the forest the lair was.
Xuehua stayed on edge as she looked around. "Here we are. Atelier, I remember our general strategy, but in this case, would it be wise to stay out of the way and wait, lure them out, or attempt a first strike?"
Atelier looked back at Xuehua and then put away his novel. Possibilities ran through his mind as he considered which were the best ones and which were least dangerous. He took out his battle strategies book and flipped to the sketch he made earlier. "We have the element of surprise at the moment," he finally said. "I'm just worried for you that if you lure them out, you might be in danger. But it will give Blacky and the others some breathing room if they want to force their way in early, and the Dragon King might realise too late to recall his army. I can come with you, if you'd like, but if they get close to us, we might be done for. We have to hope the others get in quick." He sketched another strategy, with Xuehua and himself at the back of the lair, with the minions moving toward them. Then he sketched Blacky, Starlight, and Kelvane moving forward, and then sketched the minions that had surrounded him and Xuehua moving back to the lair. "This is gambit strategy though. If it pays off, we'll make quick work of the retreating minions. If not... You and I will have to run for it, but the others can still force their way in." The idea was that once the enemies started turning back to the lair, they would be too tired to fight by the time the Dragon King was engaged in battle. "So what will it be?" he said to the group. (Strategy A (original): Blacky advances with Starlight, Kelvane, Atelier; Xuehua and Aine attack from the trees to outflank) (Strategy B (gambit): Xuehua and Atelier attack first from behind lair to draw out enemies, Blacky and Co. sneak their way through the front directly)
@122 Generation "If we have the element of surprise, we may not even have a need to fight." Aine interjected. "We could just sneak right by the minions."
"Perhaps, yeah..." Blacky muttered after giving the new strategy some thoughts. "But will you two be alright with that gambit strategy? I mean, since you'll be the minions' bait and all..." he directed the question to Xuehua and Atelier.
