Atelier paled. High taxes combined with a fear of retaliation from seemingly impregnable, but beatable, overlords wasn't what he had in mind when he thought of the Dragon Kings. He had intended to ask Blacky about what he muttered but Xuehua's intervention meant he couldn't. Also, he considered how he would use his tomes if they were going underwater. Not that he was worried about getting his tomes wet (though he was certainly worried about his novels and the rest of his inventory), but Atelier wondered what kind of spells he could cast underwater too. Fire was pointless, electric and wind weren't useful either, and neither would ice. What about melee weapons, anyway? Water would just get in the way. (He'll take the device)
Xuehua looked over the water-breathing devices laid in front of them. Where did Aine even get these devices...? (She'll have to see if there's any difference between the two options.)
(Atelier can ask Blacky next time, actually.) "Anyway," Blacky took the Prismatic Orb from before. Seems like he almost forgot about it. "Can anybody use this thing?" he asked.
@SAF Aine studied the orb. "It looks like something a wizard or priest could use...we could ask the archmage of the local wizard's guild and at the temple...
"Okay..." Blacky put the orb back in his bag. Based on his discussion with Xuehua earlier, he's now debating whether he should report the adventure earlier to his master now or wait until he arrived at Kickenham... (Blacky might as well get the gift of water breathing.)
@SAF @122 Generation @ChocoChicken (If you chose water breathing, you'll get that now. If you chose the device of water breathing, you'll get it upon arriving in Keelford.)
"Okay, question: if I send a letter now -- or anytime soon, for that matter -- are there any guarantees that whatever's in the letter won't leak?" Blacky spoke up again after a moment of silence.
(If Blacky were to inform any updates on this quest to his master via letters, will it be guaranteed to be safe? Or are there any fears of info leaks?)
@SAF "Fear not...the postal service is very good at their work." Aine smiled. "Even if the unthinkable were to happen and a letter was leaked or lost, the carriers would be punished."
Sighing in relief, Blacky went up to the reception counter to see if they have a quill and a paper to write on. But as soon as he stood up, he turned to Aine and said, "I think a water breathing gift should do for me." Why? Because some of his moves as an Umbreon are sound-based (like Hyper Voice and Echoed Voice) regardless whether he's a minstrel or not, and he relies on the moveset a lot when he doesn't use his weapon(s).
(Aside from the timing of receiving it, are there any other differences? The devices could get in the way of some things, I'd imagine, but does water breathing have any setbacks? Or is it temporary?)
@ChocoChicken (Once you receive the gift of water breathing, it cannot go away, fade, or expire--it kicks in as soon as you are submerged.
That being said, Blacky went up to the counter for real. "Excuse me," he called the receptionist (?). "Do you have a quill and a paper?"
@SAF "Of course." the postmaster replied. "There are tables over there to write your letter." He pointed out some tables by a window overlooking the square and the market.
"Okay, thank you sir," Blacky nodded at the postmaster, then went to one of the tables and started writing his letter. He basically wrote the report in a rather roundabout way: retelling the whole journey as if it was a field trip with Aine as the tour guide.
Atelier had gone off to buy some tomes that might work underwater, as well as getting anything that might protect the precious books and novels in his bag. He didn't want to get them wet.
And regarding the group's next direction, Blacky basically wrote this while keeping up with the "field trip" theme: "I don't know what our tour guide is thinking, but seems like she wants to take us diving. She heard there's a good diving spot somewhere in Keelford, so that's where we're going next."
