Many games have a plethora of quests, items, and tasks, leaving the player with a lot to do. However, it is often difficult to sit down and finish every last thing that a game has to offer. Some games have a "%" counter somewhere so the player can view how much of the game they have truly completed, tempting the player to push through to the bitter end. And yes, some games have a percent that go above 100. Do you enjoy completing games? Which games have you finished to 100% (or above)? What stops you from completing games? I am currently in the quest to complete a couple of games for the first time. While I am sure that I have completed games in the past (ones that are completed by simply playing through, etc.), I aim to complete Persona 5 (just to the point of the platinum trophy) and Super Mario Odyssey. I am within a few hours of Mario Odyssey and dozens of hours for Persona 5, but I am determined to finish these to completion. Why? These are two of my favorite games and I love them.
I love completing games. It's extremely satisfying to do everything in a video game, especially when that game is particularly good. Growing up as a child I would only get new video games for my birthday and Christmas - and occasionally Easter if I was lucky - so I had to make what I had last for pretty much the entire year. A few years ago I went on a Platinum trophy streak - across my various accounts I've earned about 100 now - and I had a lot of fun with it. These days I rarely play games to 100% completion, though. There are a variety of reasons for this, including... 1) Obscure completion markers. This is especially true of Nintendo games - what constitutes 100% completion? 2) Difficulty. Go look at Star Ocean: The Last Hope Remaster's platinum trophy list. Then look at a guide for the character-specific missions. Similarly, something like Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate would require me to fill out the guild card, and a large part of that is dependant on RNG...and those Advanced 10* village quests are murderously hard. I'd like to consider myself a gamer of above-average skill (at least inside the genres I play) but I am by no means good enough to do some things. xD 3) Time. I have a massive backlog to wade through, and my time is a limited resource these days. I want to experience as much as I possibly can, and new titles I want to play are coming out all the time. I can't play those and devote all my time to completion of something I have already finished. Never mind the replays I want to do! 4) Fun. I play games to have fun, and there comes a point after everything has been done where it stops being fun. I've forced myself to Platinum bad games before - Monster Hunter World springs to mind as the most recent, with those godawful crown trophies - and I hated every second of it. Forcing myself to 100% a game has ruined an amazing experience for me before. I don't think I'm going to want to play Tales of Symphonia again for a while yet after platting it, and that was 5 years ago now. So yeah. Rarely these days. I'd love to make a new plat account and go nuts with it, but with so much to do and so little time, I'm focused more on finishing games for the time being.
I don't really remember ever 100%ing any games, really. I am VERY close to getting 100% in Hollow Knight, though. All I've got left is the last bit of Godmaster content. I plan on at least trying to get through it before Silksong comes out.
I’ve tried completing so many games, but gave up because there always at least one challenge I couldn’t complete. Maybe one of these days.
The only thing keeping me from platinuming Tales of Symphonia is the casino nonsense. Getting Genis' weapon was a pain in the backside by itself, but obtaining 1,000,000 chips? Shoot me. Otherwise, my ability to platinum games rests solely on the shoulders of my (non-existent) skills. It took me years to 100% Super Mario World and DKC2, for example, because I'm horrible at platformers. That said, while I do take some time between attempts, I never give up until I do finish it.
I have some commitment issues and this extends to video games. The only game I've truly completed was The Walking Dead season 1- I was about halfway done with season 2 before quitting and never returning. I can imagine the satisfaction that comes with fully completing a game- seeing all the hard work you put into it finally being paid off- but as of now, I have yet to feel that satisfaction.
I love to complete games to 100%, but I'm Pretty bad, Currently I have 100% on 13 of my 90 games. I have many games which are at 90%, but I'm not able to get the last 1-3 achievements. In one game, you need to complete the game without checkpoints which means you lose when you die AND you can't take a break so you need to play this 4 Hours game in one run. This makes it really hard for me, because I mostly play 2 hours at once, get tired and play something else and two days later I continue the game. Currently I'm trying to do a 100% playthrough of Bendy And The Ink Machine (I'm at 65% right now).
Well, it's at least my goal. Due to the fact that I'm able to buy videogames that often, I try to spend my time completing games that I already have to 100%. Currently, I'm trying to complete Super Mario Odyssey to 100%, and I'm pretty close. Completing games to 100% isn't always fun though.
I like to try and get 100% but rarely do I ever actually do so. I usually end up getting burned out on a game before I manage to do everything available and never finish.
I've 100% ed a few games, and am in the process of doing it for another. It's strange, because I can readily put the time into one game to 100% it, but for another fizzle out and get tired of it. Currently, I want to 100% Enter the Gungeon, which includes getting every item and gun. I like the game, but it gets repetitive really quickly. So, the thing that stops me from completing games is repetitiveness, I guess.
I think the only game I've fully beaten is Lego Batman 2 ._. I rarely complete games to begin with tbh ;-;
I complete games when I feel I will either get more enjoyment out of doing so without burnout, or if the game is short enough that going for 100% isn't too difficult.
Ori and the Blind Forest is pretty easy to 100% I've sunk the most time into PayDay2, still nowhere close to 100% completion, especially because of all the achievements I think I've fully completed Enter the Gungeon Kirby Super Star Ultra. The Great Cave Offensive was complete ass to 100%. I guess I also have Star Allies done, but that's barely fair to say cause of how little content it has. Do you 100% Pokémon by completing the National Dex? I've done that in a few games Yeah overall the games I've gotten to 100% completion with are pretty few and far between, generally pretty memorable though. Certainly lots of other games I've spent more time on that I enjoy just as much, where full completion isn't really feasible.
I've only done it with a handful of games, like the first three Spyro games and Crash Bandicoot 3. I'm not big on it, for me to do the 100% thing, it needs to be a game I really like and be one I know I actually have a chance to do it in.
In the earlier years of my gaming career I loved to 100% games and did so more often but as of around 2015 or so I really don't 100% games as much as I used to unless I get super invested in whatever game it is then hell yea I'm going to do it.
I rarely, if ever, 100% the games I own, but I'm trying to get 100% on my copy of Kirby Super Star Ultra, and all I have to do left is get one treasure in The Great Cave Offensive (the Model Ship treasure, to be more specific) and the entirety of The True Arena. The last treasure I have to get is probably the most difficult one for me. There's a room with lots of candles, and a switch near the bottom of the room. There's also a door near the top of the room, but when I activate the switch, I can never seem to get in the door before a yellow-ish sliding door drops down in front of it because the switch deactivated. I used both the Fire and Wing abilities, but so far, no luck.
The only game I 100% completed is "Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions", because I really enjoyed the fighting and grinding in that game, also collecting all the beans and everything made me feel satisfied.
I feel like I'm in the camp of everyone here saying that I rarely complete games 100% unless the goal is right in front of me, but I have an extra layer of this. When completion feels completely obtuse for me to obtain, there is a good chance that I will flat out ignore trying to get it fully completed, opting to simply enjoy the time I'm having with the game. (The Korok seeds in Breath of the Wild immediately spring to mind) That being said, there is one game that I'm currently dedicating myself to completing fully. Or rather, a trilogy of games. Because since the Spyro Reignited Trilogy rewards you for skilled gameplay and exploration, I do plan on playing these games until each of them read 120% across the board. (Except those Skill Points they newly added to these games. I really don't feel like fulfilling these odd-end missions that the game wants me to do, and I am so thankful I'm playing the Switch version instead of the versions which would come with additional achievements for me to try and do.)
