Starling Academy, the academy for young and talented Pokémon Trainers.​

It was founded a long time ago by Norman Starling, who had been tasked by the Legendary Birds to keep their relics safe.​

Wondering where to keep these relics, the relics that the Pokémon were sleeping in, Norman​

And thus, the academy was born - rising from the ground in the middle of Airburst island, it is surrounded by lush, green forests and numerous other islands, all home to native Pokémon species.​

Students are allowed to keep two Pokémon, but one of them must be a water or a flying type, because Airburst island is some ways away from the rest of the region, and the ferry only comes once a week.​

Additional Pokémon may be earned through community service, tasks, exams and other activities.​

Students are divided into ranks, with Rank S being the highest, and Rank D being the lowest. (the ranks go S, A, B, C and D)​

There are also dorms, named after the three Legendary Birds.​

Articuno Dorm is for female students only; Zapdos dorm is for male students only; Moltres dorm is for faculty members and staff.​

You enrolled in the academy a year ago, and you're finally getting the hang of things - you've gotten settled into your dorm room, you get along with some of your fellow trainers, and you know which professors you prefer.​

But that's not what happens this year.​

No, this year is different.​

And it all started a month after the opening of the school year.​

Aira has raven black hair that flows to her mid-back. She doesn't particularly like it falling in her face, so she usually ties in up in a ponytail, or merely clips up her fringe, because she hates it when it blocks her vision.
Speaking of vision, Aira's eyes are violet with minute silver flecks in them. The violet changes shade depending on her mood - if she's angry, they turn dark, almost appearing black, but if she's content or happy, they're a slightly lighter shade of violet. She's easy to read because of that.
She doesn't have a major weakness, except for the fact that, when angered, she won't listen to anyone. She mostly relies on her emotions when she acts, but she knows right from wrong and will always do what's best unless her emotions cloud her mind.

Description:
Randir has dark brown hair with blonde highlights, and striking teal eyes. He is well built due to his love for sports, but he doesn't flaunt his form, instead preferring loose and baggy shirts - just because it's his style. His height is 5'10", quite short in his opinion, but he likes it - he doesn't stand out at all. His hair, since it's quite long, is usually kept in a low ponytail that rests against his nape - he's been meaning to cut it, but keeps shying away from the thought of scissors.

Aira frantically ran through the hallways - she was going to be late and it was because Pixie had decided to turn off her alarm as soon as it started ringing, so she basically didn't hear a thing. Professor Noel was going to destroy her if she didn't turn up on time and it was futile to reason with him. Having him as her teacher in Berryology 101 was torture. Hot on her heels was the reason why she was late - Pixie ran beside her trainer, her brown eyes studying the girl carefully. Why was she running so quickly? There wasn't any fire, and she had already turned off the noisy thing that her trainer always grumbled about in the morning, so why wasn't Aira feeling happy?
As soon as she spotted her classroom door, Aira fumbled for Pixie's Pokéball and quickly told her to return before opening the door and sweeping into the room like she hadn't just run a marathon.
Fortunately for her, the faculty meeting had run a little late and she was still collecting her breath when Professor Noel Starling came waltzing in, all prim and proper, but a boyish smile on his face. "Close call, wasn't it, Miss Skylar?" he asked, cheekily.
Aira laughed breathlessly. Who was she kidding - Professor Noel was one of the best the Academy had to offer. He was the great-grandson of Norman Starling, and he got along splendidly with all the students. "Ah crud, you saw me?" He was one of her favorite professors, but he had a habit of asking the latecomers to sing or do something silly in front of the whole class - THAT was what she was trying to avoid.
The whole class laughed at that, and Noel shook his head, still smiling. "Barely."

Aira huffed playfully as she sat next to Bayard, probably one of the only people she was actually close to. "Pixie decided to be helpful and turned off my alarm. If Nerina wasn't so attuned to my schedule, I probably wouldn't have made it to class at all," she said, taking out her notebook and grabbing a pen. As Professor Noel started the lecture, she took down notes, and basically listened the entire time, but she willed class to end sooner - she wanted to get out and go for Fieldwork - one of the only times a week they were allowed to roam the forest around the Academy. And if she wasn't mistaken, her brother - Randir, a faculty member - would be escorting her team that day, which made it even better. Fieldwork was when the students were allowed to experience the real world, the one with wild Pokémon running around. If they were lucky, they'd be able to battle against one, but they weren't supposed to capture it. What they did, if they beat it, was quickly use a Revive on the Pokémon, then run away before it regained consciousness.
The alternative was to use something they called 'Sparkle Water', which was a lot more Pokémon-friendly and could be mass-produced cheaply. It did the same thing as the Revive, but it didn't use any chemicals, just a berry puree and spring water. Once the lecture ended, Aira stretched and stood up, packing her things. "Fieldwork's in half and hour, right?" she asked Bayard.

Aira thought about it for a moment before answering. "I'll just meet you there - I need to grab my other bag because this one's full of books," she said before running off. Articuno dorm wasn't too far from the Main Building, and she got there in five minutes. Throwing her backpack onto her bed, she shuffled for the smaller backpack she usually brought to outdoor classes and then peeked inside to make sure she still had a good stock of Sparkle Water and a few Pokeballs - there was no telling when they'd be allowed to catch a Pokémon, so she wasn't taking any chances. Once she was set, she grabbed a hair tie from her dresser and ran back to the front of the Main Building, which was their meeting place. When she saw no one was there yet, she sighed and sat down on the stairs before allowing her Pokémon to come out. Immediately, they tackleglomped her and she laughed while trying to get them off her.
"Need some help?"

Randir exited the faculty room twenty minutes before his supposed meeting time and carefully read the itinerary he was given. "So, no catching Pokémon again this time around," he said, before checking the attached map to see where they were going this time. Zanzibar Forest was near the edge of the island and was an ideal spot for power-levelling Pokémon, or that was what he thought. Reaching the exit, he stepped out, only to find his baby sister being glomped to death by her Pokémon. "Need some help?" he asked, teasingly as he grabbed Aegis and held her, leaving Aira with Pixie and Nerina to deal with.
"Randir!" she squealed as she pushed her Pokémon off gently, took Aegis from him and then set her down before glomping him. "HAI."
He had to laugh - his sister was only six years younger than him, but she acted like she was six, most of the time she was around him. "It's good to see you too, little sis," he said, squeezing her briefly before letting go. Grabbing his Pokeballs, he let his own Pokémon out for some air and watched as Knight basically gravitated to Aira. "So, who else is coming?"
"Uhh. Bayard and Elise and Nelson and Evito and Narcissa and Liander. I think," Aira replied, trying to remember whose name was on that list. "Wait, aren't you supposed to have a list of the people you're taking?"
Randir nodded, showing it to her. "I know, I was just testing you," he said.

Aira snorted before taking the list from her brother. There were only ten people on it, and she knew all of them, which was good. Fieldwork happened in small groups so that there were less risks taken. Sighing, she handed the piece of paper back before standing up and stretching. "Bay said he was going to be grooming Alec around here - I'm gonna go drag him over here," she said, indirectly asking her brother for permission. At his subtle nod, she whistled and called her Pokémon to her before looking around. "Pixie, go sniff him out," she told her Fox Pokémon, who gave an eager yip before she started tentatively sniffing the ground.

Randir had to laugh at his sister. "Aira, Vulpixes aren't known for their keen senses of smell," he said before standing up. "Come on, I'll help you look." Calling Neuro to him, he asked the Zebstrika to run a course of the outer perimeter of the building, and if the equine spotted their target, he was to bring the boy to them. In the meantime, he and Aira would walking around in the opposite direction, so at least one of them was bound to cross paths with the other trainer. "Odath, stay here in case anyone else comes early." Randir was known for being the only trainer who had caught a shiny Aggron so that specific Pokémon of his was known by all the students. They'd know that he was just doing something and would be back soon.
Once satisfied, he sent Neuro off while he turned to the right and waited for Aira to catch up. "Shall we?"
Smiling, Aira called for her Pokémon to follow before walking eagerly beside her brother. A few minutes later, she spotted a Pyroar on the field, purring contentedly at something. "Alec!" she called out, hoping to catch the Lion Pokémon's attention.

Aira fussed over the lion, feeding his ego. "Who's a big fire lion, huh? Who's a big fire lion?" she cooed before laughing and pushing him gently away from her. "BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY," she called out as she glomped her friend like she hadn't seen him less than an hour ago. "Been busy, I see," she said, smiling. The rest of her Pokémon began dancing around Bayard's legs and Aegis was pawing the male's leg, practically begging for attention. Turning back, Aira grinned at her brother before grabbing Bayard's hand. "C'mon, we should head to the meeting spot now."

Randir watched his sister interact with her friend and felt content - he wasn't sure how Aira would adapt to being surrounded by a lot of people, but thankfully, that wasn't an issue. People usually gravitated to his sister, and for that he was glad. She had been putting up a strong front, but it was nice to see that she wasn't acting strong. Approaching the two, he acknowledged Bayard with a nod before looking at his Pyroar. "Alec's in excellent condition," he praised, rubbing the Pokémon's neck for only a moment.

Aira only stopped when they reached the stairs leading to the Main Building, where Odath was trainer-sitting. There were already six other students present and Aira greeted each one in turn before snuggling their Pokémon. "How many more are we waiting for?" she asked her brother, holding Liander's Flareon in her arms.
"Just two more," Randir replied, doing a quick head count. He could only see eight students, but there were still five more minutes before they were scheduled to leave, and he wasn't in a hurry, so he was fine with waiting. "We leave in five minutes," he announced before seating himself on one of the steps.
The violet-eyed female nodded before turning to the others. Without even hesitating, she started a conversation that they'd all be able to have a say in. "So, which Eeveelution is the best?" she asked. It was a topic they loved to talk about because Eevee had so much potential in so many types that it was hard to pick just one.

Randir rolled his eyes at his little sister's chosen topic. "Eeveelutions again, Aira?' he teased. But he knew how much of a big deal it was to Aira, since Aegis had yet to evolve and for now, both Pokémon and Trainer were alright with that. However, there was only so much a Normal-type could learn because Eevee blossomed usually after it evolved, but because Aira wanted Aegis to evolve into a Pokémon they were both comfortable with, it was taking a while. Or a little more than a while - Aira had been debating ever since she got Aegis, which was about eight months ago, after she won a competition.
"Flareon is the best," Liander quickly said before launching into an explanation as to why before Narcissa cut in with why Vaporeon was the best. Elise was quiet for a minute longer before she spoke about Espeon, while Nelson pointed out how effective Jolteon was. Evito and Rina agreed that Glaceon was the best Eeveelution and Aira took it all in before looking at Aegis.

Aira walked over to Bayard and held her hands out, signalling for Aegis to jump into them, which the Eevee did without any problem. Flashing Bay a small, apologetic smile, she sat down next to her brother, who was impatiently checking his watch. "Still waiting for one?" she asked. When he shook his head, she cocked her head and watched as he stood up and stretched. While he got himself ready, Aira pondered over the answers they had given her before looking down at Aegis. "So, found anything you want to evolve into, yet?" she asked.
Aegis' answer was a sad chirp and a shake of the head. She smiled wistfully and rubbed her Pokémon's head. "No worries, we've still got time," she assured, before waiting for her brother to make a move.

"Alright, we should leave. Whoever the latecomer is, they'll have to go with another group because if we wait any longer, we'll be running behind schedule and I need to bring you guys back in two hours," he said, sending a quick e-mail to the office stating that one of the students failed to show up. He quickly collected his Pokémon, returning them to his Pokeballs and waited for the other trainers to do the same.
Aira squeezed Aegis one more time before letting her go and then whistled to call the attention of the other Pokémon she had. "Back inside, guys," she chirped. Liander and the others willingly followed suit.

Aira laughed at Bayard's supposed misery. "Alec's male, Bayard - he'd prefer a female trainer," she teased. "Maybe you should give him to me - I mean, seeing how he adores me and all." Keeping her attention on Bay, she glanced at her brother before training her eyes ahead of them. They'd be walking to Zanzibar, since it wasn't that far, and the exercise would do them good. Well, the exercise would also benefit the Pokémon they had, but it would waste energy and who knows when they'd need that energy. Randir was probably leading them to the supply station where they'd receive between one to five of the Academy's Pokémon (depending on how many Pokémon they had at the moment) that they had to return at the end. It was dangerous going out without a full party and thankfully, the administration knew that.

Randir continued walking until he reached a tent decked out in light blue. "Alright, everyone get in there and go pick out your supplementary Pokémon," he told them, holding the flap open so they could go it. As usual, Aira was the first through and she quickly started scanning the shelves of Pokeballs to pick out Pokémon that would complement her team. He was guessing that she'd pick a Fighting-type and a Grass-type but he wasn't sure what her third Pokémon would be. His guess was pretty much correct as he saw her pick out a Lucario and a Leavanny, and then he grew surprised when she picked out a Taillow - she had never had a Flying-type before and he wasn't sure how she'd deal with it, but knowing his sister, she had covered all her bases well. "Ten minutes!' he called out, telling them how much time they had left before they needed to scoot.

Once she was satisfied with her Pokémon, Aira went up to the check-out system of sorts, scanned her student ID and then listed the Pokémon she took - it was school policy, so that their Pokémon were easily tracked. Seeing her brother and Bay in discussion, she went outside instead and waited for the rest of them to join her. It wouldn't be quiet for much longer and she wanted to take advantage of that. Bringing up the island map on her Holo Caster (purple, of couse, with silver stars and swirls), she searched for Zanzibar forest and tried to gauge how long a walk would take. "Twenty minutes at most?" she said, aloud.

Randir was startled at Bayard's question, but he quickly regained his composure and thought about it. "Are you sure you're willing to let him go?" he asked. In his mind, he went through the number of safaris that were looking for Pyroars - he wasn't thinking about the zoos - those were a bit too cramped, and even though the Pokémon were well cared for, it just didn't seem right, giving them a certain area and not letting them interact. "I can't recall any right now, but I'll ask around when we get back from Zanzibar, would that be alright?" he said, phrasing the last part as a question.
