As you're walking down the street a warlock bursts out of a sewer drain. He stumbles and slurs his words together. "Ayhey how ya doin shuhger, wanna see some mcfuckin magic?" He raises a bag full of pebbles and chucks it at ya. The pebbles explode and become fragments of magic. Three choices lay out in front of you. Each pebble gives you an ability as if you were in a video game. You can only have one pebble and if you lose said pebble you lose its ability. The blue pebble- You are able to eat any food and regenerate any damage you've taken. As well as you can eat less and get the same satisfaction as if you had ate an entire meal. *THIS DOESN'T PREVENT OLD AGE / DISEASE* The red pebble- You have a minimap that appears in the corner of your eye and can move to the center of your vision at will. You're able to project this minimap outwards so others can view it. This will give you a graph of your surroundings, shows people and your reputation with them. The green pebble- You're able to have subtitles to everything when people talk to you or reading any language. However you must know at least 100 words in the language being translated for it to work. (@Neb I feel this would be most helpful to you /lh) Reminder, you're allowed only one. So which do you pick and why?
The blue pebble is my first pick, immediately. Instant healing and saturation? I'd just need to carry around a pack of granola or something and I am UNKILLABLE. Plus it saves so much time on having to cook meals and worry about nutrition and groceries and all that. The green pebble sounds neat, but a hundred words is still a lot to learn. There's also the issue of where the subtitles would show up. People would start asking me what I'm looking at. And it also means I can't translate outwards either, no writing or speaking the new language, so the communication is entirely one-sided, and I can't use it for any of my creative projects which are the only reason I'd ever learn things in another language anyway. The red pebble just feels like it'd be distracting, and besides, we do live in the age of Internet maps. I can easily use one of those or pokémon go. Plus knowing every person in a ten mile radius and their opinion of me sounds like a fast way to feed anxiety. Now there remains one problem... who even is this warlock, and how do I learn more of his magics. I'm setting aside a weekend to follow into that sewer drain, and I won't have to worry about all the diseases because I'll just cook up some instant noodles and cure the fresh bubonic plague I just got from running around down there.
My choice; "You got anything else?" Blue pebble: I don't take enough physical damage on a daily basis to require being able to heal it quickly. Also my eating habits are fucked anyway so why would I want to allow myself to eat less? Red pebble: I just feel like this would get annoying and drive me insane. Green pebble: Honestly this would be helpful given that I struggle to understand things sometimes. But it would probably annoy me just like he minimap. Also I assume it moves with your vision, meaning it either has to be in the center of my vision, or I have to read it in my peripheral, both of which sound annoying. I would then continue with "How about that eagle vision or sense or whatever that a bunch of games have? Got anything like that?"
I immediately seize the warlock's neck and slam him against a wall. This is my turf, and no warlock enters my domain. I cast a classic banishment spell to send him to the Realm of Darkness for eternity. On his way out the door, I cast a simple transformation spell and turn him into a small guinea pig. Don't come on my turf, bucko. I'm the real Wizard here. (Green pebble sounds nifty.)
Blue for me please! being able to eat less and be satisfied as well as healing up damage is pretty nice, even with just the everyday wear and tear on my fat old body.
