Hey guys! Are you new to RPing and a little confused about what to do, or maybe where to begin? Look no further!
Here, new roleplayers can sign up and be assigned a "mentor" of sorts. A mentor is someone who feels comfortable enough with their roleplaying to show someone the ropes.
Concerning when a student "graduates", that is entirely up to them. If they feel like they understand RPing and are ready to start on their own, then they can just tell me or Fal, and their mentor!
This can also serve as a thread for small questions, like if you are confused as to where to put a certain thread or such.
    Rules:
    1.) All forum rules apply.
2.) The forums rules mention this, but please be respectful. This is a place for people to help each other, not to bash or flame anyone.
3.) There may be more mentors than students or students than mentors. Please be patient! Everything will be worked out.
4.) Mentoring will be done through PMs.

Mentor Rules - Please read if you want to be a mentor!:
1.) You must have at least 5 posts to be a mentor.
2.) I realize English is a tricky language, but a little grammar never hurts anyone. Try your best and you'll be fine!
    3.) You must be active.

And in typical roleplay fashion, the forms! Just delete anything in parentheses.

    Roleplaying Language

    RP - Roleplay
    Adv/Lit - Advanced/Literate
Bunnying/Bunny Posting - One person posting every other post in a public roleplay. Generally this is frowned upon.
    Ex.
    Person A: Post
    Person B: Post
    Person A: Post
    Person C: Post
    Person A: Post
    Person B: Post
    Person A: Post
    And so on.
PP/Power Playing* - Not allowing the other player a chance to react with their character. You want to avoid this.
Person A: Bob lunged towards Joe, connecting a fist to the latter's face with a sickening crunch.
Person A did not give Joe's roleplayer a chance to react.
GM/Godmodding* - Controlling someone else's character without their permission. This is also frowned upon. You do not want to do this.
Person A: Bob picks up an apple.
Person B: Bob eats the apple.
Person B controls Bob even though Bob is Person A's character.
Mary Sue/Gary Stu - Having a character who can do anything and solve any problems. Have to get across a dangerous chasm 100ft wide? Don't worry, X can jump across AND carry everyone on their back. You want to avoid having a character like this.
IC/OOC - In character/out of character. In character is when someone posts what their character is doing, and out of character is talking, usually to someone, as the writer and not the character. OOC usually uses []{}() around what they want to say to separate it from the post.

*Godmodding and power playing get mixed up a lot. But both are things you should avoid doing in a roleplay, so if you know what they are and how to avoid them you will be fine.

    Roleplay Do and Don'ts

    Don't
-Power play. Give your partner a chance to react. On the other hand, don't make your character suddenly be able to dodge all the attacks.
-Godmod. No one likes a godmodder. If they're not your character don't play them.
-Make a Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu. It's no fun if there's a perfect character that can do everything.
-Bunnypost. Generally there are rules against it, like x posts should be made until you can post again.
-Be rude. No one likes roleplaying with someone who's going to snap at them all the time.

    Do
-Follow rules. The rules are there for a reason!
-Be (somewhat) realistic. If someone's fatally wounded and nobody notices, that character's probably not going to somehow crawl to a hospital and make it out alive.
-Communicate with each other! Come up with ideas or plot twists or kill off characters, but always be sure to tell the other person/people if it's something big, such as killing someone's character off.
-Have fun! It's the most important thing about roleplaying. c:

Hello, I'd like to be an apprentice!

    User - WroughtIronX

    Skype - UnknownBrony

What would you like to learn? Are you new? - I've been roleplaying for close to seven years and feel I have a pretty accurate grasp on the subject, but as far as roleplaying across forum posts, I don't have any experience there. I'm unable to write a whole page on what exactly is happening on my end. I've always been used to live roleplaying, (Via Skype), where everything happens pretty quickly. So I'd like to learn how to take my time.

I'm not sure if this is appropriate, but if I wish to be a student, does that mean we RP with each other? ...I want to do an RP on this forum, but I'm not sure this forum is big on RPs.

You can, but not necessarily! Being a student would mean that you would be paired up with a mentor who would show you the ropes if you're new to forum roleplaying, or roleplaying in general. We're working on picking up the activity in the Institute, and it's going well, but we are not a roleplay-centered community. c:
