Adoptables, as they are known as on dA (not the cute Pokémon ones on LV!) are character designs often sold for actual profit or a virtual point system, or even for trading art for the design in question. Have you ever bought an adopt? Do you still own the design or use the character you created from it? Did you resell it? Why? Do you hate adopts because they feel redundant or do you enjoy buying and making them? If you have made adopt sets, why not show us examples of them or what the theme behind them was? Tell me how you feel about the art world of adoptables!

I'm certainly not against adoptables, but I don't really like the idea of paying real money for something that is part of the imagination. On the flip side, I guess it's a fairly easy way to make money.

TBH, I prefer making my own characters for personal use. I'd rather use my own original character that I created myself, than someone else's. I wouldn't mind doing fan art of someone else's character, however.

I find adopts useless if they are for real or virtual money. What's the point? I mean, if I want to use an already existing design, then I just look for an artist that does it for free - but for me, I just look for an artist who makes MY vision and makes it into OUR work by creating all the details I couldn't and by drawing it perfectly. An adopt could never take the place of planning, co-work, and own design.

I've enver been big into adoptables mainly because I don't see the point. The closest thing to it is a deviant art Pokémon group I'm in, and there it makes sense because they have a system in place which encourages me to use and level up my Pokémon adoptables, it's free to start, and lets everyone get into creating them. Other then that, I'm not sure I see the point, especially for real money
