Before Apple came around, everyone's computers would mostly have Windows. But suddenly, Apple came in and as they came develop more technology including their own computers, Mac. Now, some people are starting to use Apple Mac. Which computer do you guys use? :)

I mostly continue to use Windows computers. True, they can still get viruses. However, I've known this type of computer for all my life. I have tried to the Apple Mac, and I may use it for future computer games like Steam and many others so viruses won't affect my computer. Plus, the windows computers can help get work or school related stuff done.

Actually, Macintosh was the first company to manufacture personal computers with a GUI. They came out with their first OS in January of 1984, and it was almost 2 years until Windows came out with their own operating system. Windows was the more popular one from 1995 on, but Mac products have been gaining popularity in the past several years.

As for myself, I like both operating systems, but I prefer the Mac OS for what I use it for. I'm not much for computer gaming, and most of the things I use my computer for are art-related, so Macs just work better for me. I can use Windows computers if I have to, and I might build a gaming PC in the future which would probably run Windows, but I still prefer Mac for everyday use.

Have macs been gaining popularity, or has the lowercase letter i become more popular? I'm talking from a marketing standpoint here.

Macs annoy me for two reasons: firstly, their ui and mouse just seem wacky. One click button? That weird centered shortcut bar? The insistence upon sticking their logo absolutely everywhere? I don't need to be reminded I'm using a mac computer just because you can put your cute little icon everywhere. The second reason is, relating to my comment on its popularity, that apple and mac seem to have become a religion lately. There are such things as "apple families", as if buying apple products is some kind of moral obligation you and your offspring feel obligated to adhere to. "Apple family" sounds to me just as silly as "Keurig family". You don't take hot beverages from any other kind of machine whatsoever, lest you betray your allegiance to the company! Wait, what?

And what is this about Windows getting viruses? I've had my own Windows computers since 2009 and only got a virus once and I recovered from it within the day. All you have to do is use a halfway-decent antivirus and not visit sketchy websites (easier these days with many browsers having built-in functionality to warn you of sites with bad reps). Boom, you're virus-free, have a nice day playing pretty much any computer game ever with your Windows compatibility.

*sigh* I'd seriously rather use Linux than mac. In fact, I do use Linux on the side. My old laptop still runs Ubuntu 14, and it's awesome.

One thing I can't argue against is apple's superior aesthetic, a lot of the time. Like the iPhone aesthetic and design is amazing(though it has been deteriorating). From here, though, it just get's worse

I don't get Mac's and their weird UI's and custom keyboards. Alright pretty much every single keyboard has a ctrl key, but they don't have that wacky [WTF IS THIS] key. So of course let's add it as a replacement for ctrl. But keep control on our keyboards, because... why? The mouse is kind of weird too... And I never got the hang of their software UI: the 'Rocket Launch' and the normal Desktop(but you can't pin things...? Huh?), the weird 'Apps', and last of all that funky task view thing. TOO MANY THING-MA-DOODERS

Also, it seems that Apple just wants to be that special snowflake. Every cord that doesn't come from apple breaks within a month(is it just me though?). They monopolize their product, and you have to jump through hoops to get a lot of software that would be one-click download on Windows. iPhone's are weird and a lot of functionality is locked, and Mac's barely even have a terminal(They do, but it's weird)

Honestly, Windows is just much more powerful. And I haven't really had virus problems, like, ever either... just get a good antivirus and don't be an idiot, and you'll be fine

i've been using a Macbook for quite a few years now, while its setting out may be a bit inconvenient, the useless functions + gets annoyingly laggy when it gets old I think it's a little better than Windows. The reason being that it has not once had any trouble with viruses even without the anti-virus programs. And yes I have had an anti-virus program installed in every one of my Windows computers, and you know what? All of them ended up having problems, they either got stupidly slow or had this annoying thing pop up every time the internet was on. And the anti-viruses did nothing about it.

The biggest downside if Apple is that its prices are waaayyy over the top.

I really prefer Apple over Windows. One good advantage Windows has is its wide range of games. I'm not a gamer tho, so it doesn't matter to me. With a Mac OS X, I have access to Terminal and a great UI — that's all I need for my schoolwork and everyday life. I do have Windows 10 installed on my MacBook but only for the sake of running Windows apps that I can't run on Wine.

    1) The price. Though Apple computers are known for being expensive, they last for so long that it's totally worth it. The hardware they use is high quality.

I owned an ASUS laptop running Windows a few years ago. It was perfect for 1 year, but then it started lagging on me soon after that for reasons I didn't know. Eventually found out it kept getting viruses and I re-installed quite often. I'm a cheap person so I didn't want to spend on an antivirus that will only last one year :P

I got a MacBook around a year after my Windows laptop. My parents were a bit skeptic at first because it was expensive and had basically the same specs as my ASUS laptop. But well, I'll have you know that I'm still typing on it right now, 6 years after I bought it. It got laggy after upgrading to later OS X versions, but I upgraded the RAM and I've never had a problem with it. Fun fact: My sister's laptop is an 8-year old MacBook and it's still running smoothly :3

    2) User Interface. Hands down. Best user interface ever. Windows is good too, but Mac OS X is on a total different level. It might look weird/intimidating for non-Mac owners, but once you get used to it, I'm sure you'll love it too.

    3) Because Apple is the only one creating Mac OS X computers, their software and hardware work so perfectly together. You are able to use your hardware to its maximum potential.

I just realized my reply is getting longer than what I was planning lol. But basically, great UI, great OS, you will surely get the value of your money. I love Mac OS X, but I think Windows will still be the more popular OS even in the coming years. The thing is, everyone is used to Windows because most computers are running Windows. The only time you get a chance to use Mac OS X is if you buy an expensive Apple computer. Also, the ability to customize your hardware is another selling point of non-Apple computers. Nevertheless, I think Mac OS X is a better OS than Windows.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the trackpad. Yes, the Mac trackpad is probably way better than any other trackpad out there (some companies are now trying to catch up to Mac's trackpad).

There is a firm reason that I prefer Windows far more than Apple, and the answer is pretty simple. Compatibility! I'm the kind of guy who has a lot of PC games, and it comes down to the fact that Apple computers and such don't run a lot of games and programs that I use, and that just doesn't fly with somebody like me who uses music programs and plays games on a regular basis. I will recognize that a lot of what is on the Apple devices is better than on Windows devices (Windows 8 is blegh). I've used Windows computers my whole life and have only tried Apple computers a couple times, but I'm pretty sure my stance is clear.

Here's my take: I love windows, I've worked with it my entire life. Be that as it may I've never touched an apple device before so I honestly cannot say I like one over the other or which is better. Truth be told bold systems have their pros and cons from what I understand and it all basically comes down to personal preference. Would I like to try apple just to see how it works? Heck yes I would jump at that opportunity just to try something new. Would I go out and buy it to do so? No because those things aint cheap. Still, because I've never tried apple, I can't say one way or another about it, plain and simple. So let's make an agreement. If I don't talk bad about apple, you won't talk bad about my windows, UNLESS I do something to deserve it. Then you can have your fifteen minutes. Sound good to you guys?

In all honesty, I've not personally owned an Apple computer before so I can't say a lot about that. They're so extremely expensive, even the 'cheap' models. After exclusively using Windows for so long, I can say it's far from perfect. There's been countless times my computer crashed for no reason or it slow even though I just got done cleaning up all my unnecessary files. Overall though, it's not been that bad and the interface is quick and easy, as well. My friend did own an Apple computer and when we would go on there at his house it always seemed 5x faster and smoother than the one we had at home. However, I hear Apple computers aren't suitable for gaming and that's kind of a requirement for me >_>

I find myself enjoying using Windows much more, because it's much well-known OS around the world, and it also have many software that I can use them to suit my liking. I do tinker with Mac at times, and I find it quite comfortable to use as well, and having several programs that might rival Windows in terms of features (name Garage Band, iMovie and the others), even though I'm still into Windows for now.

I'm mostly the same as Blast: I can't really comment on this because I don't have an Apple device and I've never had one either. I don't want to use Apple products though because the rules they use appear to be kinda strange to me. Also, Apple is too expensive IMO.
