Are all main Pokemon characters mutes?

    Are all of the heroes mutes who don't talk? I think not, as I found something pretty interesting.

    Well those of you in the know about Yancy in B/W 2, basically when you call her after meeting her in person, she says the following. "I'm surprised you are my age! I was guessing you would be older than me from your voice." This obviously implies that the main hero of the game (Nate) has actually spoken to her with his voice.

    Of course we don't see words from him, but I found this interesting.

    It's very similar to many Zelda games, where Link is effectively mute (besides vocalizations while fighting that are just random sounds) and when you "talk" to NPCs many of them will respond to you as if a question was asked of them or in a way that implies you are relaying information. I don't really know for sure why this concept is used but with Pokémon I think it has to do with how the character is supposed to represent you and not a pre-defined personality with dialogues and a style of speaking, so blanks like that are left to make players fill in them in on their own and become more "connected".

    YOU are the character. YOU are the voice of the character. As what Doima said, people do this to have you more connected to the said character. I'm not sure if it quite works, but people do it, so it must do something.

    Don't the main characters in BW2 talk? In Pokestar Studios, we can see them talking in the movies.
    I'm sure the other MCs are mute, like what Doima said.
    As for Red, well... you know him. He doesn't talk at all.

    as doima said, its to make the games more immersive. i've always rather liked when games do this, and in fact Pokémon and zelda are my favorite game series! it's nice to be able to paint the main character with your own personalities and feelings, or even make up a whole new personality altogether!
